— pre - apocalypse : picked up off the streets of edinburgh , madison was raised in an agency alongside a handful of other orphaned and abandoned children ⸻ trained to carry on the haus legacy of churning out only the best of the best. built for espionage and instructed through a rigorous mindset of do or die , over two decades of his life were spent in submission to an agency that did everything in their power to destroy any semblance of identity he had. ( easier said than done , for the so called agent of chaos in their handler’s carefully ordered world. )
so when the opportunity came for him to finally escape ? the decision to switch sides was hardly a decision at all. taking the offer of a mercifully outstretched hand , madison had given up everything ⸻ every little secret he had been TRAINED to keep. choosing to work for one of the very governments he had studied so hard to take down and topple , his skills were put to use in securing their power instead. all he asked for in return ? his freedom.

— post - apocalypse : he was on a mission gone terribly fucking wrong when the zombies came a ‘ bitin. dragged kicking and screaming out of an interrogation room ⸻ the last he saw of his wife was the stubborn set of her lip , and a fierceness to her eyes that burned brightbrightbright. ( the first few weeks of the apocalypse passed entirely unknown to mads , who was kept locked away in a cell by a continuously dwindling number of guards. ) but by the time he finally escaped : governments had already fallen , the world had completely blacked out ⸻ it was too late , and the beginning of the end was already here.
— soon after : by the time he made it back to the last place he’d seen nic , there was nothing left of his wife to trace , neither anyone else to seek vengeance upon. ( he’d made sure that the piece of shit that betrayed them was deader than dead , and the rest of their teammates were either scattered in the wind , or worse : dead too. ) still , giving up without any proof of nic being well and truly gone was never an option , and so mads spent months drifting from camp to camp for even the slightest clue that would lead him back to her.
— fast forward : alongside his desperate search , he saved some lives , and he built new connections. hell , he even managed to help organize the liberation of a fucking hospital. so while the plan had been to move on as soon as the new camp was well and truly settled , the fear of abandoning those he knew to be alive and in need of his help had kept him stationed ⸻ held him back from drifting too far. pouring all his time and attentions into the camp’s safety , making sure to keep busy. ( how long could one man chase a memory before they eventually became a ghost ? before it was time to let the dead truly stay dead. )

— is probably known around camp as that guy who’s still in love with his wife and will not shut up about her and how you shouldn’t get attached because he’s not here to stay !!!! actually , he’s probably gonna leave in a week or so !! ( and wdym that’s the same thing he said last week , and the week before that akkwejfnawe. ) he just ... tends to get really morose from time to time when he has too much free time , so just let him work through it until he can find 300 other things to pile onto his plate , until he eventually overworks himself and thankfully passes out !
— in contrast : he is also that terrifying guard who can kill you in sixty different ways at any given time , and has a constant awareness of his surroundings that’s just ... unnerving. he usually only uses his skills for good though , and he’s taken it upon himself to train up some of the members of their camp who’ve asked !! with infiltration having always been his specialty as a spy and agent , he’s incredibly tactically minded , and lends his expertise to organizing the guard.
— he might come off as kind of an intense dude , but he’s honestly just ... a Dumb Guy™ !! like even throughout his training as a kid , he was very much a shirker of duties and and a skipper of lessons. more likely to be found pushing the limits of his handler’s patience , and turning in with mottled bruises and blood still dripping as he’d insist on the independence of free thinker rather than the absolute compliance they demanded of him. ( he’s obviously grown since then , but he’s just ... not in the habit of taking anything too seriously. )
— is probably one of the better adjusted members of their new reality, seeing as he grew up surrounded by the worst of humanity’s ugly underbelly , and was trained to adapt to such situations. very much a go with the flow kinda guy ! though he won’t hesitate to gut you like a fish if you hurt a member of his camp , and even more so anyone he personally cares for.
