We met on here in 2010, became friends, started dating, fell in love, and stayed together through the ups and downs of nearly fourteen years.
I was nineteen when we got together. Now I’m thirty two. I wasn’t ready to marry for a long time, I grew up with divorced parents that talked bad about each other to me. I hated being caught in the middle.
But at some point I realized I’m not my parents, Dexter isn’t his parents (who did the same kinda stuff to him), & we can forge our own path. We already knew we were better together, so we just had to make it official.
Big shouts out to the musical stylings of Childish Gambino for bringing us together on this seedy blogging platform (at least that’s what it was back in 2011 when we started dating) and the television series Community. We may have never found each other if it wasn’t for them.
Our wedding wasn’t traditional, we “walked down the aisle” together, and the aisle was actually just a big ramp to an overlook. But as we walked down we played Steps Beach, and it was absolutely perfect and ended at exactly the same time we got to the overlook.
As long time Donald Glover fans, this song just encapsulates our love so incredibly, and I speculate that he wrote it for his wife for their wedding day.
Most of our tumblr friends have long abandoned their posts, we have as well, but since this is where it all started, I had to come back & record it here.
What a special place tumblr was in the early 2010s, anything felt possible back then. And with this new beginning, everything feels possible once again.
