“Los Angeles, November 2019” is implanted in the memories of sci-fi movie fans around the globe. 

Basics It’s November 2019. The long awaited Neotropolis Bar, the cyber-noir-themed pop-up bar is now open in downtown LA.  It’s a completely immersive experience, featuring a fully-designed retro-future interior, themed craft cocktails, food, costumed actors, and countless details for attendees to explore and interact with. This is a passion project from a group of entertainment and hospitality industry veterans, all of whom were heavily influenced by iconic 80s future films and are intent on delivering the ultimate visceral fan experience.

The project underwent a name change shortly after launch, reflecting an even bigger scope that the creators have in mind - An entire block of a city street environment for attendees to explore underneath the bar itself called the Undercity. It’s more than just a bar, it’s a journey into the Los Angeles of the future. A journey to Neotropolis. Neotropolis creator Jared Butler is no stranger to fully themed events, having co-created Wasteland Weekend, the successful post-apocalyptic-themed desert festival now in its tenth year.

In order to create a menu of signature cocktails for Neotropolis, Butler collaborated with LA cocktail bar veteran BC Hoffman. The futuristic drink to witness is the Neotropolis Old Fashioned, the Signature Old Fashioned. Blended whisky infused with chrysanthemum and chamomile tea, house-made Guinness bitter Syrup, black lemon bitters, and mesquite smoke. Oh the wonderful smoke! 

He’s already put together some amazing things for this- from an edible rum noodle cocktail to innovate reinventions of iconic 80s era drinks in keeping with the retro-future feel. A sampling of the drink menu can be viewed on the bar's cocktail page, with descriptions of the 21+ offerings. Non-alcoholic items are in the works, too.

Tickets are on sale now via the official Neotropolis website or via Eventbrite. Admission includes two hours inside the experience (including the bar and city scene) as well as an exclusive package of souvenir items. It’s been suggested to buy tickets early as this is a very limited experience, and WILL sell out.
