9 QUESTIONS WITH TRISTAN WAIGHT OF PEACHY!
Photo via facebook
QUESTION: We already know, Peachy, are the bastards of DIY merchandise and film clips with grainy nineties vibes - but there's gotta more to 3 fella's from Victoria. Tell us 3 things we didn't know about, Peachy. TRISTAN: Haha, the clip came out grainy looking because we literally had $0 to sink into the clip. So we decided at practice to just film ourselves playing our song "Talk" with a friend who had a camera because we needed a video clip and 10 minutes later we gave birth to what you see now as one of the worst video clips on YouTube!
I threw a full watermelon on Jason's head once (which he was supposed to catch but was looking the wrong way) and now blames me for his shit drumming...which we all know is NOT true.
Mason is a barber when he's not slapping the bass.
The keys on the EP are actually by my delivery guy who's from Indonesia. I run a few businesses and one day he asked if I play music in very broken English and the rest is history.
QUESTION: Well be straight with you, if you're straight up with us. We bought your self titled EP, before even hearing a track because it was the perfect shade of pink. Is their meaning to the art work? If there's not, we dare you swindle us a story anyway. TRISTAN: Yeah for sure, pink is my favourite colour and I had to tweak it a bit to get the right shade in Photoshop. I think I just wanted something simplistic and iconic so after writing all day I snapped a dart and photographed it in my studio. Originally the artwork was on green cardboard and I filmed myself barfing over it and then photographed that. But I decided to opt for the ciggy one haha QUESTION: Track one from the record, Devils Advocate, features some sneaky keys - we dig that piano work. Run us through how this track came to be. TRISTAN: I listen to a lot of old rock and blues so I had a kind of "bar fighting" attitude with this song. We placed the keys in it so the riff didn't seem too repetitive and the lyrics I wrote with definite tongue in cheek. QUESTION: Track two, Don't Want To Be In Love, is full of 'we don’t give a fuck', vibes - but you're not fooling us. Tell us about something you do love... FYI, beer or vegan mud-cake is an acceptable answer. TRISTAN: Vegan mud-cake is the best but I love vegan doughnuts more. QUESTION: Track three, Talk, has become our personal 'I want to drink more than I can handle and sweat it all out jumping the fuck around', anthem. There has to be a story behind it or at least an epic source of inspiration to the lyrics? TRISTAN: Haha, I better not name names on who I wrote the song about lyrically but I knew the EP needed something a little faster and more punk influenced than anything. I was listening to a lot of Sex Pistols when I wrote that banger. QUESTION: Track four, Yeah, Yeah Yeah, is the song that guarantees we will purchase future releases by, Peachy. It's raw and it's honest. It's worth all the loose change in our centre console. If your fans could only take one thing away from this track, what would you want it to be? TRISTAN: Destroy your TV. I don't want to sound like one of those crazy conspiracy theorists who wear tin foil hats...but make yourself a tin foil hat and destroy your TV. QUESTION: Track five, Blood Sweat and Leather, is the final song from the EP but it doesn't go quietly. What's your favourite lyrics from this nineties vibe-like banger? TRISTAN: This song is absolute rubbish and didn't turn out anywhere near how I envisioned it. It sounds like a watered-down hardcore track that we fanged in there for the lols. I am proud of the thought-provoking lyrics just a bummer with how it sounded when we got the EP back. At least the artwork's sick! Haha QUESTION: We ask this same'ol question all the time. Name a local band that everyone reading this needs to go look up? Disclaimer, you can name more than one if it's too hard to choose. TRISTAN: The Second Sex, all girl punk band doing killer things. We've played with them twice and they do not hold back QUESTION: Final words to leave us with? TRISTAN: The EP doesn't represent our sound at all. Come to a show and you'll see we sound more like a loud version of The White Stripes, Black Keys with a bit of George Thorogood guitar licks and Punxxx vocals. UP THE PUNKS!

5 QUESTIONS W/ BEN OF THE HARD ACHES
Photo via facebook.
QUESTION: How did you come up with the band name, THE HARD ACHES? Is there a story to it? What does it mean? BEN: Not really an exciting story, we can't seem to do much that isn’t a play on words. It just kinda made sense. Though, if you want a better story we can say it’s because we are huge Bonnie Tyler fans... if you want haha.
QUESTION: There are a thousand ways to make a record. When it comes to penning a track, what are your must haves before you can write? BEN: Tough one...Most of our tracks come from guitar/vocal/melody ideas, then we take ‘em to the jam room, rip it to pieces and basically start from scratch. Putting all the pieces back together, somewhat. It’s all about the tubs and riffs at the end of the day, so we gotta make sure there is plenty of shred.
QUESTION: Name two, underrated, local Aussie bands - that everyone needs start groovin' to. BEN: FOLEY! - One of our favourite bands, super posi-emo (whatever that is). Imagine Weezer, but way cuter and more fun. They were better before Mick got a hair cut, but they still shred. They have a new album out in a few months and its gonna be something real special. HANNAHBAND - a beautiful bassless, two piece band out of Sydney. They just put out their third album and its a corker.
QUESTION: What can we expect from, THE HARD ACHES, on their up and coming Australian tours? Will there be any surprises? BEN: Always plenty of surprises, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if we told you. (There are no surprises, We hate surprise.) We have some really great tours coming up with some amazing bands and old friends, so I’d imagine there's gonna be a whole lot of getting up to no good. Expect poor quality Instagram photos that make no sense to anyone else but us, probably.
QUESTION: In your opinion, what is the most important song you've released and why? BEN: I Get Like This - This was the first song that a wider audience got behind, that itself still blows our minds. We close every show with this song and we probably will be for a long long time. It’s still such a fun song to play too, so that's rad, still got some charm for us left.
