Oh, yay. A post/fic that's been here since September 2018 has been flagged. Yes, it's a bit spicy, but it's not that spicy.

Google docs informs me that I produced 532 words today. It's not, well.
It's not much, but it's about 432 more words than I've written for quite some time. Most of it was series notes, but as they are, in effect, published, I'm counting them.
Hey! You! Fanfic writer!
Your story doesn't need to be completely accurate to their time/era. It is still fiction. If you want to make a vegan dragon, or that anesthesia existed before men knew how to speak, you can. And if people not okay with that? Fuck them, the story is yours.
Would you recommend this show?
Yes
No
Honestly, it was a such a fucking disappointment after the fabulous, fantastic, fine fic I'd already feasted upon. I read a substantial quantity of fanworks before experiencing the source.
I was recc'd A Desperate Arrangement [mikkimouse] by a friend, "You'll really love this ship!", from a very different fandom and then dove deep. All 115,506 words was there for us all to read a month or so before I knew it existed. Thus, the first anything I was exposed to regarding this IP was an AU, Sterek piece finished in November 2014. I saw images of the characters/show here on Tumblr before I saw the source. I applied for and got an AO3 account before I saw the source. I was genuinely confused as to who the titular Teen Wolf was after I (hunted down an, ah, accessible version of and) experienced the first episode. I came to the conclusion, after watching around half of the first season, that the powers that be had apparently decided to use the singular 'wolf' rather than the plural 'wolves' in a vain attempt to pay homage to the 1980s version. â™ NB: For the record, my first TW fic is not finished, let alone published. I started writing it (tweaking an unfinished thing from a fandom long forgotten by my ink or blade) on a train ride in January 2015. Also, as someone asked eons ago in a question/message thing that I recently saw and accidentally deleted, my "ink" is in reference to my usually at least mapping/planning with pen (or pencil) and paper (if not writing the whole first draft.) My "blade" is a reference to slicing certain kinds of citrus.
I think. I think I have the timeline done. Which means there's no more hiding behind continuity issues. It's time to write.
Just had a little chat with Colton Haynes about sterek at a convention and how it’s kinda cancelled now. No biggie. But let it be known, that man was the ORIGINAL sterek shipper. And he wanted me to know that. Even though, in his words "these guys *non-specified cast-members* HATE it".
He really said "hate" with such passion, it kinda gave me joy?
saw an elderly woman walking around with a tote bag whose design were the four AO3 fic category squares and she very excitedly asked if i was a reader or a writer bcs nobody else at the con had recognized it, and after telling her that i've been writing fic since fanfic.net, she solemnly nodded and explained that she'd been reading fic since "the days of personal websites" but that she only started writing fanfic when she was 47 and oh my god when i tell you that i genuinely teared up on the spot!!!!! like!!! HELL YEAH???? LITERALLY NEVER TOO OLD TO START WRITING. NEVER TOO OLD TO WRITE AND SHARE YOUR FIC.
her enthusiastic "i'm a very nice and bubbly person, i swear! but i love writing angst and major character death :)" nearly took me the fuck out.
icon. legend. diva. i wish her nothing but a kajillion million comments and kudos. i hope her fic updates crash AO3. i hope she knows i'm promoting her to my personal patron saint of AO3.
want your favorite author to update but don’t want to be too pushy in their comment section?
here’s 5 things you can do to encourage them:
Reblog their fic link on tumblr (bonus if it’s with tags)
Bookmark the fic with a note about what you’re excited about/love in the fic
Recommend the fic to your friends or local discord channel
Draw art or create other media for the fic (as indicated by the author’s comfort level)
Leave them a comment when re-reading about the parts of the chapter/story that stood out to you the second time
BOTS AND SCAM COMMENTS ON AO3
WHAT THEY ARE AND HOW TO SPOT THEM
okay, I thought I should make this post since there has been an influx of scammers plaguing AO3 comments section and people are falling victims to them. so here it is;
WHAT THEY ARE
so far, there are three main types of these scam bots
bots that tell you AO3 is deleting works, and that you should delete the works yourself because your entire account will be affected if your works get deleted by AO3
bots that tell you your works are terrible
bots that tell you they want to draw comic panels from your works
ALL OF THESE ARE SCAM WITH MALICE INTENTIONS
bots that tell you AO3 is deleting works, and that you should delete the works yourself because your entire account will be affected if your works get deleted by AO3 are just trying to get you to delete your works, most certainly because they want to steal and/or use your works to train their AI and, once you delete your works, it becomes extremely difficult, almost impossible for you to claim ownership of your works when the original works have been deleted. AO3 IS NOT DELETING ANY WORKS.
bots that tell you your works are terrible are also just trying to get you to delete your works, most certainly because they want to steal and/or use your works to train their AI and, once you delete your works, it becomes extremely difficult, almost impossible for you to claim ownership of your works when the original works have been deleted. (more examples here and here)
bots that tell you they want to draw comic panels from your works are trying to hack your password, personal data and credit card information (they will say they see potentials in your work and are interested in drawing comic panels from it, and then they will ask you to discuss this with them on discord where you will have to pay/commission them for the “comics” you will never get, but you will get your password hacked, personal data and credit card information breached and stolen instead, do not fall for them).
HOW TO SPOT THEM
what all these 3 types of bots have in common is that;
most of them (keyword, most, not all) are guest users or empty accounts that have just been recently created.
their comments are all the same copied and pasted scripts that they mass leave on lots of authors’ works at random.
they will ask you to contact them outside of ao3 by giving you their discord, or instagram, or other social media handle.
their comments are all vague, in the sense that there will be no mention of any specific characters’ names, no mention of any specific scenes or events from your works (granted, they need to be vague because they are bots, they never actually read your works, and they have to be able to use the same comments on other writers’ works too).
EDIT: I’ve been told they got “smarter” and are now mentioning characters by names and also specific scenes from the story. Most definitely because they ran your fic through AI and let AI write comments for them. So basically, if a comment, from someone you don’t know, ends in something along the lines of “I’d like to draw a comic panel about this”, “can we chat on discord (or anywhere outside of ao3)” or anything that’d require your email or other personal information, always assume that it’s 90% a scam.
report them for spam then delete their comments when/if you get them.
please spread this if you can. us writers gotta look out for each other. stay safe, everybody ♡
EDIT (Dec 10, 2025): NEW TYPE OF BOTS WHO THREATEN PEOPLE WITH LEGAL ACTIONS
EDIT (Dec 15, 2025): BOTS IMPERSONATING LEGIT USERS, WITH REGISTERED ACCOUNTS, BY USING THESE LEGIT USERS’ AO3 NAMES AS THEIR GUEST-USER NAMES IN THEIR GUEST COMMENTS
EDIT (Dec 22, 2025): BOTS PROMOTING THEIR APP/PROGRAM AND ACTING AS AN AD (WHICH I BELIEVE IS AGAINST AO3’S POLICIES) ON COMMENTS SECTION
EDIT (Jan 16, 2026): BOTS TRYING TO PASS FOR GENUINE COMMENTS BUT FAILING AND ACCIDENTALLY MENTIONING NAMES OF RANDOM CHARACTERS THAT ARE NOT PRESENT IN THE FICS OR THE FANDOMS
EDIT (Jan 18,2026): BOTS TRYING TO ACCUSE INNOCENT WRITERS OF USING AI, BY COMMENTING ON OTHER WRITERS' WORKS AND TELLING THESE OTHER WRITERS THAT 'THIS WORK BY THIS SPECIFIC WRITER IS AI'
EDIT (Jan 30, 2026): BOTS TRYING TO TRICK YOU INTO DELETING AND DESTROYING ALL THE WORKS IN YOUR COMPUTER/FILES/DRAFTS
EDIT (Jan 31, 2026): BOTS TRYING TO ATTACK YOU FOR THE LACK OF TRANS CHARACTERS IN YOUR FICS (DOESN’T MATTER IF YOUR FIC HAS TRANS CHARACTERS OR NOT)
EDIT (Feb 2, 2026): BOTS TRYING TO ACCUSE YOU OF TERRIBLE THINGS
HERE’S HOW YOU CAN REPORT COMMENTS FROM REGISTERED ACCOUNTS
Underbid
Underbid, T, 100 words ao3 | pre Sterek, Werewolf Convention, Outsider POV | Part 2 of Commodity (AO3) For @sterekdrabbles prompt posted 27 Jan 2026: hover, sprout, handsome
She’d been attempting to look natural in the corner, not hovering. She’d been trying very hard to not sprout claws at the way her packmates threw themselves at Derek Hale. They’d practically rubbed themselves all over him. It was hard not to do that, of course, he was young, and powerful, and handsome, and virile, and just all around lickable and
She sucked in a breath, stepped off the wall, smoothed down her skirt. She could do this, she could redeem her pack, she could,
She’d had hope, then she watched the kid — spark alpha freak — take it all away.
You’ve heard of one shots, now get ready for none shots! It’s when you think of an idea for a fic and then don’t write it
