Lately I've been thinking about my first love again.
Not in a way where I wish I could go back and relive everything, but in a way where I wonder why certain people never fully leave your heart.
I think about the conversation we had when I was 19 and he was 21. I vividly remember asking him why he stayed in contact with me for three years after we broke up. It was something I had wondered about for so long. Most people move on after a breakup. Most people stop talking and eventually become strangers.
I don't know what answer I was expecting when I asked him. Maybe I just wanted to understand why he was still there after all that time.
What I remember most is that we both agreed we'd always be connected one way or another.
At the time, I didn't think much about those words. I just accepted them because they felt true.
Now that more time has passed, I find myself revisiting that conversation. Sometimes I wonder if he remembers it. Sometimes I wonder if those words meant the same thing to him that they meant to me.
What I do know is that he was my first love. and even years later there's still a part of me that keeps the door cracked open. Not because I'm sitting around waiting, but because a part of me still believes that some people come into your life for a reason.
Maybe we'll never speak again.
Maybe our paths will cross when I least expect it.
Maybe being connected doesn't mean ending up together at all.
Maybe it just means that no matter where life takes us, we'll always carry a piece of each other's story.
For now, all I can really do is just focus on becoming the person I want to be. I want to heal. I want to grow. I want to build the future I've always dreamt of having like a loving family, a peaceful home, and a life that feels different from the one I grew up with.
And maybe one day I'll look back on all of this and finally understand why this connection has stayed with me for so long.
Until then, I guess some questions don't need answers right away.
