Another comic-less week, I’m afraid. Instead, I thought I would post something interesting. Back when I was in High School IB Art, I decided to myself that I wanted to make a digital comic of my favorite myth - The Ballad of Tam Lin. You can see how well that worked out.

It was also my very first time using photoshop. Needless to say, I got no further than 3 pages before I realized that I needed to actually learn what I was doing before making a full comic. It took me four years before I got back to finishing what I started, but I’m so glad I did.

The Summer of Irregular Updates has begun

As I’ve been mentioning in a couple of my last posts, I’m in a bit of a bind artistically this summer. I have a job that requires me to travel nearly constantly and I currently do not own my tablet for making the arts, my old one having died dramatically and heroically. 

what does this mean? I won’t be able to update as regularly as I would like for the next couple months. This makes me very sad. I will try to continue to update as much as possible and I will try to have filler work for most weeks. 

Once of the reasons that I haven’t just bought myself a new tablet is because I just graduated college and have zero moneys. If you like my work (or me) and would like to help me out in that department, I’m currently taking commissions. I can do everything from digital art to oil paintings, pin ups, fan art, illumination... you name it. I was considering using this space to note the obscene difficulty of interiors, polar bears, pine trees, or any of the above. Except, let’s be real. I love doing this - even the tedious minutia of 10 torches lighting every single surface.

My excuse for getting this week’s comic up late is that I take partying very seriously but I do accept the possibility that I went a little too hard over memorial day weekend. A late comic is the cost I paid whilst fighting for my right to party. 

In other news, the summer and my insecure schedule creeps closer, as well as my insecure finances. If you like how I make art and would like to own some, I do commissions! Message me if you would like to exchange money for pictures.

girl: “LOL K” probably This is not my favorite page, but I like it a fair sight more now that it’s done. I’m about to finish school and am a bit strapped for cash. As such if you would like to give me money in exchange for artwork that I make just for you, that’s a thing! Message me... or however you communicate.

It sure looks a lot like earth, Bear-Friend... just saying... In other news, we’re back to a somewhat normal update schedule. I still don’t have my own tablet, and as the time is approaching when I will no longer be a student and thus, no longer have access to a computer lab with tablets, I may have to take a longer than ideal break in a couple weeks. However, I will still be working so fear not for the long term. I'm going to make this work!

That said: if there’s anyone out there who wants to help me make it work... hit me up. I make pictures for money.

Woo! The fully colored page is up! Sorry for the delay. Next week *should* be up on time... but lets be honest, who am I to act like I know the future. I don’t even know how long I’ve been in this computer lab - night all!

Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry! I never meant for this break to last as long as it did. Hopefully I’ll be back to a proper upload schedule for a while. In case you missed the update - my tablet broke over spring break and I have been struggling to find a way to get work done using only the school’s labs. For at least the next 10 weeks I will have updates - and hopefully by then I’ll have an actual solution. Like a new tablet. Yeah, that would be fantastic. And also very expensive.  In the meantime, Here the actual page one of my new comic - East of the Sun, West of the Moon, a story in a crazy fantastical world where humans and bears both exist. Craaaaaaazy.

Hello all! If you’ve been keeping up with me you’ll know that my new comic will be starting up next week. Here are some of the preliminary sketches I did while planning this comic. I’m very excited to have a new project to work on and I can’t wait to share it all with you. Check back next week Tuesday for a new beginning!

Today’s filler art is something that’s going on in my real life - you know - the one outside tumblr, comics, and mythology.  I’m currently preparing for my final gallery show as a college student along with another art student and dear friend: the title of our show is Embracing Womanhood. It will be a collection of pinup art celebrating non-traditional female bodies and forms of femininity. This was the image I originally submitted to the school on all the official promotional material (sans disclaimer). This is the same image that was subsequently sent back to me with instructions to choose another less controversial image.  This image (with disclaimer) was made after a long and frustrating night of negotiations with my superiors where no solutions were reached. My tiny rebellion. I want to share this image, even though my school considers it distasteful, controversial, and even offensive, because I created it out of an honest wish to showcase beauty as I saw it, and I intend to do so with every channel available to me.

Wooo! A cover page at last... because sometimes that goes at the end. Especially when you plan as poorly as I do. Here’s to doing a better job next go around! Hang tight for 3 more weeks until the new comic starts - I need a break.

Ballad of Burd Janet, Page 24 - The End. --

This is my very first completed comic and I’m terribly proud. It’s not perfect, I know. I have a ton to work on, both as an artist and as a storyteller. This is just the beginning, though. In one month, I will be beginning a new story - it will be another myth retold. In the interim, I will continue weekly updates with some art, teasers, and thoughts on where I’ll be going from here. Keep checking back! ~ If you liked this story, you should check out the original Ballad of Tam Lin (I just changed the name to reflect the female heroin.)
