THIS IS SO IMPORTANT OMG
My sister once told me “But you draw just for fun, right ? Your goal isn’t to be a professional, so just keep on doing what you love.”

Happy (🇨🇦) Thanksgiving weekend everyone! I know it should be an all year-round thing for us to be thankful for those we love that are/ and have been in our lives, but life gets busy. Its good to be brought back down to earth for a while for a moment of appreciation. So even if you’re by yourself this thanksgiving, give a big ol mental bear hug to those in your mind! and maybe pig out on a rotisserie chicken all to yourself. ‘Cause by golly you deserve it

Did everyone just…. forget how to create, all of a sudden? Disney pumping out the fourth remake in a row? Movies are like 70% sequels? Stories in games being just bad if they exist at all? Haven’t had a book get hyped in like half a decade? Are we okay? What’s going on?
So there’s an interesting theory that with endless pastiche(replication of dame with no added meaning) you can see a collapse in culture. This is obviously not permanent but it is seen throughout different time periods.
This time is different for a few combined reasons. One being how advanced we are texhnologically so everything needs to be new faster than before because of how fast things spread across social culture(think memes and how you’re done with em in 2 weeks)
This combines pretty badly with capitalism where giving people exactly the same thing(think remakes, spinoffs, etc) is so much cheaper and faster. Let’s say for example you have a cool new idea, it’s too risky to pay to produce it, test audiences, etc if it’s not a garunteed return on cost.
So yeah y’all aren’t crazy media is fast and cheap for your convenience at the cost of quality and this could keep getting worse yay
Tldr: op is right because capitalism is shit for creativity
There’s a third factor as well, and Disney may be the main cause of it. Nothing much has entered the public domain in decades, thanks in no small part to the Disney Corporation. In 1998 Mickey Mouse was about to enter the Public Domain, long after Walt’s passing. However, Disney hired Lobbyists to convince Congress to extend copyright laws by DECADES. Most modern works will outlive the people who own them, leaving them to exist in a sort of limbo, Terry Pratchett’s works, Isaac Asimov, so many amazing worlds that would have been amazing engines for future works are now locked away in a prison... Additionally, I have a theory that Disney is kind of aware that they are running out of ideas, hence the whole just remaking what they’ve already made. HOWEVER, it goes a step further than that... Disney has been buying up property rights all over; Marvel, Star Wars, Fox, and I’m sure these aren’t the last of them. This would mean that they are gaining domain over more works. They have the entire Marvel Universe to play with now, and they also are the ones solely responsible for the expansion of the Star Wars universe (which is why they nuked the old canon).
While it’s true that creativity is important and responsibility falls to the creator, the building factors of Technology, Capital, and Law have truly crippled what we are able to make as a society... And what’s worse, there doesn’t seem to be anything going on to try and fight them.
tl;dr: I agree.
