Diploma in Kitchen Management
I would like to take this opportunity to thank MCO University for conferring upon me an Honorary Diploma in Kitchen Management. In the past fourteen days, I have been trained in the kitchen to organise life. Yes, you read it right, life. Allow me to quote Bucchianeri, “There are times when wisdom cannot be found in the chambers of parliament or the halls of academia but at the unpretentious setting of the kitchen table.” This is indeed true.
Kitchen management is not only an art but it is also a science. This field of knowledge has often been overlooked as trivial but MCO University has impressed upon me that while putting food on the table and of course capturing pictures of the dishes served are important, what lies beneath is a complex ‘world’ of ‘politics’ and ‘crisis management’.
The role of politics in kitchen management is evident in the negotiations of what to cook. We have to take into consideration the appetite of our ‘clients’ and convince them that the food to be served would serve their best interest. This involves drawing up a kitchen manifesto, where we promise to deliver dishes that are not only delicious but at the same time healthy and instaworthy.
Crisis management is useful when resources are limited and scarce. We have to find alternatives to ensure that we deliver the results desired albeit slight deviations and compromises. We have to exert our creativity and innovativeness in overcoming the hurdles that we face.
My dear Facebook friends, I dedicate this diploma to all who have left comments, likes and those who passed by my photos/videos. Believe me that what goes on in the kitchen will provide us with life lessons to embrace new challenges in the future.
