they appear to be the perfect couple , happily swaying in tune to an oldie , but a goodie , stars sparkling in their eyes as they exchanged such long , loving glances —— oh , if only the public knew. they’ve both gotten extremely good at this , pretending to be in love as they bounced from job to job , their skills meshed together making for the perfect team. well , almost perfect , if only they could actually stand one another. their first few jobs together were definitely not ones he’d like to commit to memory , but the most recent jobs ? well , maybe they weren’t so bad. gaby could be a bit much at times , but she truly was a woman not to be trifled with , prepared to jump into the fire & stand loyally with him , even if he was the one that got them caught in the first place. playing the role of a different person had been the most difficult part about this whole affair , but it’s become easier & easier with time , so much so that one might actually believe the hit - man is actually falling in love. what a hilarious concept , as if barry would ever allow himself the chance to sink into something so dangerous. caring for someone like that when you’ve made a career of constantly sticking your neck out in the line of fire ? yeah , that’s a recipe for disaster. he’s definitely not falling in love , definitely not noticing how perfectly them seem to fit as they swayed , how her dark brown eyes looked up at him with such innocence , all feigned but still beautiful all the same. he puts on a smile as he lets his head drop a bit against hers , sweet kiss pressed into her ear as he whispers quietly , ❝ try not to step all over these shoes. they uh , they weren’t cheap. ❞ despite the comment , barry can’t hide the softness in his tone , eyes closed shut as he loses himself to the moment , completely unaware that he was.
HE IS STERN IN ALL THE PLACES SHE IS UNRULY . he pulls her back into focus and she draws him out into the liberating chaos which she inhabits ( a careful balancing act , one they do not always succeed in ) curious , how she still fits so easily into his arms despite all odds and how ready he is to match her steps . WHO IS LEADING WHO ? IN THIS DANCE OF LIES AND GUNSHOTS ? the dynamic had shifted and the driver who seldom relinquished control ... did . only so slight but just enough . every movement loosens : less playacting more instinct . being with him has become second nature whether there was truth behind her actions or not . invading his space was just another filling breath in your lungs , and these days you found it was getting harder and harder to breathe ( this hope feels dangerous / she doesn’t want to call it that / was it loneliness then ? ) the melody grounds her , the tempo steadying her sway , keeping her in time with the music rather than the rapid flow of her thoughts . when his lips graze her ear that is grounding too dangerous ! the thrill of this proximity though it was rooted in a farce . he does not whisper something sweet to her , rather he speaks venom as if it were honey . EVER CONTRARY , THEY COULD BE NOTHING ELSE . ❛ if i remember correctly before you met me it was actually you who had two left feet . ❜ she leans into the warmth of his breath cheek to cheek as they continue their languid dance . the smile playing across her lips shielded from his view . ❛ so ... i’ll step wherever i want , süßer . i’ve taught you everything that you know . ❜
