I realized after saying people think I’m a snappy dresser, I put myself in a really boring outfit. But I suppose that’s it. I saw Kate Beaton and Julie Wertz at Stumptown one year. I was just at the beginning of making comics. Both (and many other comic women) were wearing a graphic T, cardigan, skirt, and leggings. And I found my style. That (and dresses from Modcloth in place of T and cardi) has been my style ever since. I love layers. It’s an updated version of what I wore in high school: straight leg jeans and knock-off Chucks, graphic T, flannel, hair in scrunchy. (Turns out I was pretty grunge, but that’s because I was basically wearing the outfits of the boys I liked.)

Trying to catch up on Doctor Who so I can get to the lady Doctor. But I am not a fan of the Peter Capaldi Doctor. So I switched to Midsommer Murders. On which Peter Capaldi was playing a mean choir conductor.

I drew this with ballpoint pen. And I did not pencil first. I did plan the general layout in my head, but straight to ink. Which is hard. :| But considering, I am happy with my Peter Capaldis, especially the first. Having never drawn him before.

Also, I did not use the remote. I just didn’t want to draw the Playstation controller.

I think this is my favorite comic in the bunch. There were a dozen or so ants, and they would each take a few steps and then stop to clean themselves.

I refuse to believe spiders can be good. Just kidding. I know they are good. But they are also terrifying, and that wins out.

We have a bug collecting kit, for removing bugs from the house, that is actually just one of those 100 CD-R covers and a piece of cover stock that I was using for testing Copic markers. And the spider was so big in the drain with such long legs it looked like a gob of hair.

So paranoid. I really hate bugs. A month or so ago, I went to take a shower and a HUGE spider fell off the shower curtain into the tub when I turned the shower on. And the drain sucks so the tub was filling with water and this poor HUGE spider was swirling around. I turned the water off and used an empty TP roll to scoop it out of the drain and throw it in the toilet. But I am still slapping the shower curtain to knock any spiders off before I get in the shower.

If you really want to know, I still hate closing my eyes in the shower to wash my face because when my face is under the water and my butt gets cold, I think about Sixth Sense and how the room temperature dropped when a dead person was there. So I wash my face as quickly as I can so I can open my eyes again and warm up under the water.

This ant was on the side of the fridge and started to go in the fridge when I opened it to get some milk. I didn’t want to shut the door on top of it, but I also didn’t want to wait for the ant to decide what to do. So I gave it five seconds to get out of the way. I think it did.

Poor Abe, again! Just trying to eat his lunch in peace at work. It takes about 30-45 minutes to get there via the bus, including all the walking. And still that ant clung on for dear life.

Abe was telling me this is how he feels about having ants in the kitchen. This was fun to draw but then I regretted filling in the “dirt” area with stipple to get the texture I was looking for. It was only an hour or so of torture.

Poor Abe. He has been pondering the purpose of life, so he really doesn’t want to kill the ants. But I won’t let him make me the only ant killer. And I really tried not to kill them, but they are so rude, invading my kitchen.

A two-fer. This is pretty dang true to life. I have found ants on me, but I never did collapse on the kitchen counter and let them cover me.

Adrenaline is not my favorite way to wake up. I froze for a second and then figured out to throw the whole measuring cup in a bowl of water that was already in the sink.

In other news, I have been eating Better Oats steel-cut with flax seeds and it is very good.

I have watched Archer multiple times. So we WERE saying, “Do you want ants? Because that’s how you get ants!” at everything. Like if Abe’s glasses were dirty. But then we actually got ants and now it’s not so funny anymore.

Start of a new series of comics, The Ants of Our Discontent.. Due to a maple syrup incident (Abe left our plates in the sink after a delicious French toast breakfast), an unrelenting out-pour of ants infiltrated our kitchen. These are the stories of that kitchen.

Drew myself tap dancing. I have been taking lessons and it has been very fun. For various reasons, I am now using OperationTap.com and really enjoying it! One of my previous tap teachers gave me a tap board, so I can tap, tap, tap in my apartment. So much better than my socks on carpet or linoleum.
