Growing up I always heard that it was a bad thing to be selfish. That putting your own needs before others made you a nasty person, someone people wouldn't want to be friends with. Selfish was used as an insult and to this day, I still have trouble accepting that being selfish isn't always a negative thing. Sometimes it is necessary for my health and wellbeing.

I've spent 25 years believing my selfish moments made me a horrible person. I'm trying to unlearn this behaviour, to understand and believe that positivity can come from putting myself first but it's going to take time and I need to be paitent with myself.
