Long before her family’s service to Hadriana, at least couple of generations back, Orana’s family crossed over to Tevinter from Antiva. Their clan had been forced to scatter after a confrontation with local nobles and the move to another country, one with a reputation for it’s cruelty towards elves was not their original intention. Their plan had been to head South and reunite with another clan, but were captured by slavers on the way there. Not that Orana is aware of any of this, most Magisters do not care where their slaves are from and erasing all of their roots beyond service to the imperium is just another tool used to keep the system in place. 

Also, not all of her family are still subjected to slavery. Her and her father decided to take over the remainder of their family’s debt after her mother passed. Most of her cousins and extended family left Minrathous after “earning” their citizenship in order to be farm hands and merchants in smaller, more rural towns. None of them talk or really seem to care much about where their family was originally from besides her.
