Time to go to work.
A page from the book "The Iron Moonhunter", written and illustrated by Kathy Change (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathy_Change) in 1976. I hope to put up better quality full-page scans online eventually. SO INCREDIBLE!
Beware the Blunted Needle were a Philly band from the mid-2000's. They were awesome and this is one of their songs. It was recorded in 2006. They traded instruments etc. on different songs. The lineup was: Abby Miller = keyboard/bass Eleanor Buffman - guitar/drums/ketboard Gina Favano - bass/keyboard/guitar/percussion Mandy Katz - violin Monica Pasquinelli - drums/guitar Vocals by all.
Art by my friend Abby Miller, for a coffee shop that never opened. This photo is from May, 2011. The coffee shop instead became The Satellite, which is now a west Philly institution. Not sure if this piece of advertorial art is still up, but it was up for years! Keep watching for The Comet!
Ebony-R has been one of my favorite Philly street artists for many years... he's not particularly prolific, but his style is unmistakable and I always feel happy when I see his stuff. I've also been lucky enough to find a few of his zines etc. over the years. I met him once at 3 or 4 am in a kinko's. This past Friday I was selling some copies at first Friday (sort of a monthly art event in Philly where galleries open, but of course the best art is sold on the sidewalks outside the galleries) and he happened to be selling little paintings etc. right across the alley! I traded a drawing of mine for this one. I am ecstatic to have one of his in my art collection!
Malvina Reynolds song called Rabbits Dance. One of my favorite music recordings of all time. So atmospheric. Prepare to be haunted.
This is a song called Garden Parade by Bad News Bats. It breaks my heart and my mind. In a good way. It's from a CD-R circa 2005 called More Machine Now Than Man.
Another drawing by Herbert E. Crowley of "Wigglemuch" fame, circa 1910. Donated to the Metropolitan Museum in NYC by his wife Alice Lewisohn. Never before seen on the internet!
Drawing by Cabbie, from issue # 4 of my zine, May 1996. Me and Cabbie used to meet up at 30th. St. Station and pick through the garbage for food and then sit at the tables and draw. I remember Cabbie telling me that this was the only time he ever drew a dragon. I also have some poetry from him and a noise tape we made together. He was kind of a legendary character in squatter circles. I think he is dead now although I never talked to anyone who knew that for certain and last I saw him he was talking about buying land and becoming a hermit, after we worked on Alaska fishing boats. He was definitely a person I'll never forget.
A song by Lara Buckley. I'm sure this song will give you chills and tears. We're lucky to have this song here on Earth. Look her up!
Drawing by Herbert Crowley, of 'Wigglemuch' fame. One of my favorite artists. This drawing has never appeared on the internet in any good resolution. I offer it here in a reasonably high resolution. It is an inspiration! Drawn in the early 1900's. One more art book that needs to some day exist! Herbert Crowley is a missing link in art history, in my opinion.
Speaking of brilliant musicians who were also brilliant visual artists..... Wesley Willis! I LOVE his art so much! He was an artist before he started doing music, and getting to know his artwork really gives his music another dimension, I think. This particular piece is a little unusual for him, but I love it so much. Another art book I would buy in less than a heartbeat! Click to image to see the source, from flickr.
Painting by Kurt Cobain. I wish there was a book of his art instead of that diary/journal book. I've always loved the few examples of his art I've seen, and find it interesting how the art dovetails with the music. I wonder what keeps a book like that from happening, while other rock stars who were truly uninspired visual artists such as Jerry Garcia have slick art books.
"Dead Lady With Demon Grave Stone" by Renee Leshner. Renee is one of my all-time favorite artists. She was in her mid-80's before anyone knew she made any art, and was pretty reclusive. I feel so lucky to have crossed paths with her near the end of her life. She contributed a lot to my zine for a number of years, and I hope to help make a book of her work at some point. She told me a lot about magical art practices, and also was a great inspiration - working on her art at least one hour per day at the age of 85!
This is a subtumblr for inner level cadre followers!
So, many times I have wanted to both post offline content that I didn't make (i.e. art and music by friends etc.) or reblog things, but I try to keep Spectronomical Array clear to focus in on my own work. So please follow this one to see more stuff "from my world", though not through my own hand!
