Me: Thel’s journey across the world to find Atticus isn’t so much a grand romantic expression of love, as it is an expression of compounding trauma. She lost her fiancé, her only home of Lion’s Arch, then her sister, and now her only friend. With each loss she was powerless, and is very likely suffering survivor’s guilt even this long after Scarlet’s siege. Her decision to chase after Atticus so far into the desert–into danger–is ultimately an act of defiance to her powerlessness; A choice not just made for her friend’s sake, but one where she vies for agency over a situation that she does not control. Romance doesn’t factor into the pain she’s fighting. Fueled by an inability to let go of her past trauma, she will continue to comb the Desolation for him, until she finds him or learns to accept another loss in her life.

I HAVE AWAITED THIS MOMENT
I met an unusual sylvari today. She introduced herself first as a shadow taken bird-form, and when she emerged, as a witch of the mists. She is the first I’ve encountered to make that claim, and I was eager to learn more.
Helynae–that was the name she gave–presented me with an orb of obsidian and offered that I ask it a question. I took it in my hands. My mind was on the Mists and suddenly I could see it. Battles across time, legends come to life, and tales of history played out before me. I nearly lost consciousness trying to absorb it all into memory.
Maybe I was too eager.
After that, Helynae shared her story with me. In younger days she was part of a Priory ritual to journey into the Mists, but something in the ritual failed, and she found herself alone there– For twenty years! I don’t know how she survived, but the event clearly shaped her. She says that now she can walk freely between our world and the Mists, and its given her the ability to divine. She even read my aura!
When I asked if she wished the rest of the explorers hadn’t been separated from her, she seemed a little unsure, but told me she accepted the past and what it made her to be. That time in the Mists developed her into a strong and knowledgeable necromancer; she even considered herself a master of the metaphysics of magic! I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like to come by that prowess the way she has.
There was a moment I thought she might have bad intentions for me, but I was thankfully mistaken. I’m glad to have met her. We must have dozed off conversing after that, but it was the soundest sleep I’ve had in a while. I hope we meet again.

The First Invasion - [Part 5 - final part??]
Just short of rolling her eyes, Kezza gave an aggravated sigh of defeat. “Yes, I’m fine. But I’m not alone,” she checked over her shoulder for the survivor, who had begun to test the opportunity to leave. Still clad in Inquest headgear, the shivering asura struggled to her feet.
“Wait! Rescue has arrived! Don’t try to– Your lacerations!” Kezza’s protests would have gone unheeded, if the survivor hadn’t buckled under the pain and ache of her circumstance first.
“Fine! Inquest! I demand you take me to an infirmary, at ONCE!!”
Teokkin appraised the debilitated asura. “Did you overlook someone?” he inquired Kezza, before moving past her to the querulous one to hold the flame close.
“It’s not a typical cycle to have a non-member solicit the Inquest for medical attention.” He chuckled. “Let alone challenge the ones that secured your ability to still do so. Are you so audacious?”
Kezza followed after him, privately thankful for the warmth he brought, but no less irritated with its necessity. She moves to help the other asura slowly to her feet before replying, “I don’t think her request was referring to our infirmary.” She regards the survivor, “We will return you to Soren Draa. Peacemakers should be available to assist you.”
Seemingly pacified by the promise, the survivor tolerates Kezza’s handling, even accepting help in removing the helmet. Moving to pin her disapproving stare on Teokkin, she answered, “Fine. I hope you brought a golem.”
Teokkin pulled up his dataslate with a scoff and keyed in location data. “Of course not our infirmary. I wouldn’t wish to have the care of this individual assigned to our resources. But there is a golem that is-” he hesitated on one screen that pulsed a more vibrant red than ordinary display levels, “- …presently out of commission. Are you opposed to manual transportation?”
A township in turmoil greets the trio of asura when they finally stagger their way through Soren Draa’s gates; teams of Peacemakers in battered, scorched armor and varying states of injury rush between stations, stretched thin with the influx of wounded from around the outlying area. Medical golemites zip between patients, administering diagnoses and directing patients as their organic counterparts do the same. All around them, asura scurry back and forth across the town’s main plaza in a swirling press of tiny bodies-- Though here and there a foreigner to the province stands out above the crowd. Charr, sylvari, and the odd skritt dot the area, either as patients or wanderers come to lend a hand.
Before any of the Peacemakers can take note of the trio and halt them for processing, a familiar, scratchy voice sounds out nearby,
“Hah-hah! You made it! Clear out!” Sippi’s voice cuts off abruptly, shortly followed by a small chorus of displeased shouts as a knot in the crowd is forcefully parted by the mesmer. Emerging (or rather, exploding) from the crowd, Sippi rushes over to greet Teokkin, Kezza, and their new friend. “Hah, wow,” She starts, skidding to a stop in front of the trio, “You three look worse than the Statics lavatories All-You-Can-Quaff Tuesdays. The Disaggregator said you’d make it, anyway. He sent me down to wait for you.” She snorts, folding her arms over her chest. On closer inspection, her face sports several new bruises, with a particularly nasty shiner swelling up under her left eye. The cheer in her voice makes it clear she doesn't care.
“He’s up in the atrium, doing... Doctor things, I guess. You, uh. Wanna go check in?”
The First Invasion [part 2]
[part 1]
Kezza set her gaze firmly on Teokkin, narrowing her eyes with an offended crease in her snout. “I hadn’t realized your doubt in my abilities was so severe. I mean to assist those trapped at Desider Atum if that is still feasible by the time you relent and permit me to do so.”
Teokkin grabbed his ears and yanked them down, pulling his scowling face upward in the process. “Kezza! You will have no fortifications, no emplacements, nothing- there is not one asura that can wade into an assault of this scale with so little and withstand. I am not limiting you for inadequacy, but for preservation!”
With her own ears raised, Kezza slammed her hands on the desk with a minor splash of sand, “I do not need your preservation! This is strictly a rescue operation! I have no intention of engagement, but we cannot trust the Peacemakers’ competency with the evacuation!”
Interrupted by another series of dings from the console and dataslate, Kezza backed off the desk and scowled, “I’ll be initiating the operation now.”
“All this conversation is so very stimulating,” Gerik managed to add over roar of the melee he’d waded into while waiting for the two to come to an understanding, the telemetry golemite zipping and weaving to follow him through the press of mummified corpses, “But I would be remiss if I failed to remind you of the urgency of effecting a course of action– Hah–! Swiftly!”
Ducking under the vicious blade of an Awakened khopesh, the Disaggregator’s daggers swirled artfully from target to target, cutting a drove of mummies down at the knees. Somewhere off-screen, Sippi’s handiwork was audible as a high, electrical whine precipitated an excitable squeal from Gerik,
“Sippi– YES! A RECIPROCATING QUAD-CANNON! You beautiful, bald genius! Set it up, quick!”
Groaning into his hands, Teokkin huffed and gestured towards the doorway. “Very well. You have associates and kin that wish to continue having your presence. Fail this, and you will fail them. And me.”
“Appreciated,” was the only affirmation offered before Kezza rushed through the doorway, leaving a light trail of sand in her wake.
–
After a brief stop at the armory to fetch her power armor, it wasn’t long before Kezza returned to Desider Atum, having left it in much better shape than she now found it. Even at a distance, she could see Awakened had already marched inside. Much to her relief, a dozen or so survivors were already evacuated by the Peacemakers who had been on scene, the group headed west presumably for the Voloxian Passage to Loch Jezt.
Sure in her ability to be either ignored or successfully disguised, she placed her hands over her armor and replaced the red glow of patented Inquest technology with a mesmeric violet. Strange that it were more blue than she’d attempted, but energy chromatics were the very least of her concerns.
Hailing the Peacemaker furthest in lead, Kezza approached with heavy, brisk steps to match their pace. “Status here? Are all individuals accounted for?”
On any other day, it looked as though he would have found her sudden arrival and demand offensively out of line. Under these circumstances however, he was a measured professional. “Two missing. Seven injured. What’s your designation?”
“Irrelevant. Loch Jezt is clear. Continue as expediently as possible.”
With that, Kezza turned on her heel and made a break for Desider Atum, much to the protest of the Peacemaker.
"Ah, good talk then. Best of luck, Kezza!" Gerik called out over the comm, darting out of frame without so much as a glance, the channel cutting out entirely just as a clutch of Awakened shambled into view for summary vaporization.
