Ralph breaks the Internet
So I absolutely loved this movie but as all movies the first one is always better than the squels but this movie was not a fail!
As every other heros cuties shipper, I was sad that they were rarely in the movie but we do have to understand that the first movie was centered around ralph and vanelope and so was the second movie. We do see felix and tamora, just not a lot but their relationship has definitely blossomed in the past 6 years theyâve been together!
Now, I absolutely 100% love the way they depicted Ralphs insecurities and seperation anxiety as well as vanelopeâs glitches being a side effect of being scared, anxious, nervous or depressed. It made the movie feel so much more real and the characters seem more human. Iâve seen some people hating on both ralph and Vanellope for being âshitty friendsâ or even âtoxicâ for each other, which is kinda ridiculous if you ask me.
Vanellope was kind of going through an existential crisis (which really got me) everyday was the same old routine and while ralph was alright with it now that heâs accepted and treated with more respect from the people in his game, Vanellope felt like she was stuck in a loop of walking up, doing the same old stuff day after day after day and for some people that can really take a toll on you. So ralph, wanting to make his best friend happier, creates a new track for her to race on.
Yes, it wasnât the best idea to do during gaming hours and Vanellope not following the gamers control caused her game to be unplugged but guys, sheâs nine years old and couldnât go near the race tracks or do anything for 15 years and ralph hadnât had a friend for 30 years so of course they arenât thinking about what will go wrong, they just wanted to have fun. Ralph just wanted to make Vanellope feel happy because sheâs his first and only best friend.
Vanellope states later that just because her game was starting to get boring didnât mean she didnât love it and yes even though she told ralph being his best friend wasnât good enough, give her a break, she just lost her game. Being a racer is in her code and she just lost her game, her HOME and you except her to not reply like that when she is again, NINE YEARS OLD and just lost her home?
It was a pretty accurate reply. Like imagine losing your home and your job and questioning who you are and someone saying âyouâre my best friendâ the gesture was helpful but at that moment she was overwhelmed and needed some space and time to breath.
Ralph totally blames himself for her losing her game which is already going to make him have âIâm a bad friendâ thoughts, then she doesnât show up at tappers. Ralph could have also been worried that she uh, DIED OUTSIDE OF HER GAME??? Her game being the only place where she can die and regenerate, he hadnât seen her since her game was unplugged so of course heâs going to worry about if his friend is hurt.
Ralph wanted to fix what he had done and risked going into the Internet to get a new wheel to save vanellopes game knowing very well that he could die while doing so but he just wants to make things right and again make his best friend happy again.
Fast forward a bit, ralph is already feeling like a bad friend to Vanellope for getting her game unplugged, she told him being his friend wasnât enough for her to keep her happy forever and now his best and only friend is talking about how cool another person is, jealousy was bound to spark up as he feels like heâs losing her but trying so very hard to push the thoughts aside while Vanellope has no clue heâs feeling the way he is.
Ralph is probably still self concious about himself but when he finds out he can post videos of himself doing whatever to make money and get the wheel he does it in a heartbeat, he puts aside his insecurity for Vanellope because he loves her and cares about her and just wants her to be happy again. Hell, he sends her to the least dangerous area in the Internet because he knows she could die in there and he worries about her.
People call Vanellope selfish for wanting to stay in slaughter race but let us look back to the beginning, sheâs bored with her game that is now unplugged so she doesnât have anywhere to go, this place is exciting and a racing game..if her game didnât get saved then that could be a backup plan for her. It is not selfish to think about your own happiness and want to do something good for yourself. Not only that but she took into account ralph would be upset, she cares about his feelings which makes her nervous to tell him even though he accidentally overheard PART of the conversation between shank and Vanellope.
Ralph specifically asked for something that WONâT hurt anyone, the insecurity virus was only suppose to slow the game down not reboot or shut it down. He went into that game risking his life to pull her out and save her. He didnât lie to her and allow her to believe it was her fault the game rebooted, he was truthful. He knew Vanellope would be upset but he was still truthful.
She didnât tell him that she didnât want to be his friend, she said she wanted to be alone. She still hasnât had any alone time and is overwhelmed to the max probably.
The insecurity virus copies Ralphs insecurity while heâs looking for his cookie medal that Vanellope threw off a cliff. He finds it broken in two.
All the Ralphs stack up and make a huge ralph, it almost has Vanellope but ralph of course is going to do whatever it takes to protect her. Ralph is trapped and getting squeezed in big Ralphs fist, Vanellope says that the big ralph can have her and begs for ralph to be put down.
Thatâs when ralph finally realizes he needs to let her go, which makes for a heart wrenching scene of character development. âYou donât own her, you have to let her go..itâll hurt I know but you have to do it..everything will be okayâ
Insecurity has been resolved, before Vanellope leaves to go into slaughter race ralph pulls out the broken cookie medal but not to guilt her. As soon as Vanellope starts getting upset he calms her down and tells her that they can now both have a half of it so even when they arenât together they are both reminded they are best friends no matter what.
Vanellope hugs ralph and tells him that she loves him so much, and then they wave goodbye not breaking eyecontact until she glitches into slaughter race.
Ralph joins a book club to fill his time away from Vanellope, although they both have phones and can video chat after hours.
They both clearly care and love each other, they fight and have misunderstandings like any relationship would and now onto something that Iâd like to just touch on a bit
Vanellope did not go turbo. They got the wheel, they fixed sugar rush and yes she left her game but what she didnât do was mess with the coding of slaughter race and take over it and she also didnât abandon sugar rush. She isnât a main racer, there are I think 15 or 18 other racers besides her, and theyâre all put on the ârandom roster raceâ so her game can still be played without her unlike turbos game in which he was a main character and also got his game and another one unplugged because he was jealous and tried to sabotage the other game.
So anyways, ralph didnât just break the Internet but also our hearts but by the end he fixed everything and wrapped it all up nicely and showed how insecurities can break friendships but talking about them can help eliminate them even if theyâve grown over the course of years from your past.
Iâll probably go on another rant about the cute felix and cal stuff but itâll be alot shorter than this ahah
