shopping trip in quarantine (a poem)

after the longest time i felt the fresh air

whip right through my eyelashes into my hair 

the icy breeze encouraged a tear 

which consequently made my eyeliner smear 

a citrus taste still hung on my tongue

the sun is just rising, the morning still young 

if this was last year i would enjoy the outside all day

find a field of poppies to drink wine and lay

i’ve got all i need now, i must turn around 

and so i savour the taste, the smells, the sound

turn around to go home, my back to the sky 

i wish i could bask, but for now it’s goodbye
