A video I made for Circuit Des Yeux is on AdHoc today!
I know I don’t post here much (and not usually my personal stuff), but in case you missed it, here’s the music video I made for my bud Circuit Des Yeux. :)
oh, and go see her on tour!
So I've been listening to the Peter Ivers / Asha Puthli material lately and then fell into the Internet again and found this, which is too good not to post and means I'm back at least today.
Asha Puthli - "The Devil Is Loose" on Non Stop, an Italian show that ran on RAI from about 1977-79.
Check it, somebody put up a full episode from 1965 Nashville TV show Night Train. Also to be checked: a very young Jimi Hendrix manning back-up band guitar duties (all the way on the left, first segment). And Peggy Gaines, Pamela Releford, and everybody else, since this show did it live.
PS if this show looks familiar it's because I posted the Jackie Shane part a while back!
thanks Czech New Wave film class
I fell into the internet, but I'm back?
Also, I'm pretty sure the only name for this is The Antithesis of Soul Train
some summer cilla
this video brought to you by my new-found obsession with JEAN TERRELL. DAMN.
The Supremes (post-Diana Ross , replaced by Jean Terrell) - "Bad Weather" - 1973
the saddest movie in the world?
1973 Documentary about Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood in Las Vegas
these boots are made for a critique of late capitalism the novelty of the live act celebrity tautology sequins sugar town is just a metaphor for drugs blah blah blah
why yes I'll take some 1976 filmed, 1977 broadcast Patti Smith on The Mike Douglas Show (bonus points for weird Charlie Brown-ish set?)
found this a while ago but forgot to put it up...i don't even know what to do with myself after something like this...but a quick close reading: Tom Jones being Tom Jones and being like" THIS IS MY SONG NOW AND I WILL EAT YOU"; Stills trying to do his best Tom Jones impression; Crosby is DELIGHTED and clearly was the one who thought of this idea while high; Young is like "lol" but also confused if this is just a weird trip after hearing Crosby talk about Tom Jones too much
all in all, some weird ass shit
(Tom Jones + Crosby Stills Nash and Young + Greg Reeves on bass)
why did all my sammy davis jr videos disappear off tumblr? this must be reinstated. But for now here's the most beautiful/hilarious moment in the history of variety television
GET A ROOM
realized I never posted this video it's the best my love for sammy davis jr knows no bounds and i will not be talked down from that cliff
(sammy davis jr doing a Japanese Suntory White commercial)
WHAT
"Special États-Unis" French TV from 1969, shot in Memphis, TN -- Footage of STAX / FAME studios; Brook Benton; Isaac Hayes laying down backing horns for The Emotions "So I Can Love You" with the Bar Kays / Mar Keys; Booker T & and the MGs recording
I CAN'T
PLEASE UCHICAGO LET ME WRITE MY BA ABOUT THIS STUFF
and carla thomas always
(usually I don't post clips from features but there doesn't seem to be much of her on the youtubez and this clip from Wattstax is beautiful ...also I'm going to have to start working on a creative BA proposal so there's gonna be a lot more from various kinds of things that I put up here)
JOHNNY TAYLOR FOREVER
Another great moment from "The !!!! Beat" out of Nashville in the 1960s (house band led by Clarence Gatemouth Brown!)
Etta James + Esther Phillips + Lattimore Brown + Roscoe Shelton ... "tell yr ma, tell yr pa"
