The Odoo manufacturing demo always looks clean.
BoM loads. work orders fire. everything cascades perfectly. then you ask about your actual floor and the answer gets vague.
the gap isn't the software. it's the configuration. here's what actually matters:
MRP module
it's a planning engine, not a scheduling board. demand fires → full component tree traced → shortages flagged before they stop your line.
Bill of Materials
wrong BoM = wrong costs + wrong replenishment + wrong inventory. for variants: one master BoM, not one per SKU.
Routing
two things get misconfigured: time modes (fixed vs. per-unit) and workcenter efficiency left at 100%. both make scheduled dates fiction.
Shop Floor module
operators can't navigate multi-step menus between machine cycles with gloves on. skip this module and adoption fails. every time.
PLM
not a phase two feature. activate on day one. without it, engineering changes go directly into live BoMs. eventually something ships on an outdated spec.
