HaliFACT!
The HRM (Halifax Regional Municipality) has approximately 1000 lakes. For perspective this is as many lakes as the entire country of Italy! The HRM is 1/55 the size of Italy so our lake density is very high.
You know what’s great about being from Halifax? I tell people “yeah I’m Canadian.” And they ask, “oh, where from?” And when I say Halifax I can see their brains short circuit trying to figure out where that is.
Look, if you haven’t gone to the Beaverbank Radar station and almost died, are you really from Halifax?
This is in Dartmouth Nova Scotia! Just across the harbour from Halifax!

The Halifax Citadel is considered to be the most haunted place in Nova Scotia. There are dozens of ghost stories surrounding it including The Wineyard Story, The Doppelgänger, The Well Sergeant, and of course the most famous, The Grey Lady, who is even on a postage stamp!
Take a Ghost Tour if you wanna learn about the folklore of the old Fort. They run from July to October.

When going to Peggy’s Cove, don’t climb on the black fucking rocks. Not only will you be risking your life, it also acts as an indicator that you’re from Ontario and Nova Scotians don’t like Ontarians.

The sketch comedy show That’s So Weird was filmed in Halifax. It aired on YTV.
Personally, I think if this show had aired at the same time as Vine existed they would have made a great match.

Hey, you know what b’y? Our mixture of metric and imperial is perfectly valid.

This is my favourite street art.

During WWII there was a Bofors 44mm Anti-Aircraft Gun mounted on Georges Island in case of an air raid. It was removed about half way through the war as war planes were not capable of crossing the Atlantic, but submarines were. Nazi U-boats were stationed off the coast of Halifax and sometimes targeted convoys leaving for Europe.
Nova Scotia Fact!
There is an ice cream flavour only available in Nova Scotia (though I’ve heard some shops in New Brunswick have it) called Moon Mist. It’s very popular but when you hear the flavour combination it sounds weird. It’s a mix of grape, bubblegum, and banana; it tastes like none of these. Here’s what it looks like (it’s easy to see how it got it’s name!)
HaliFACT!!
World famous actor Elliot Page is from Halifax. His first recognized role was on the TV Series Pit Pony (1997-2000). It was about the ponies used in the Cape Breton coal mines and the miners and their families. There is also a book of the same name.
Not a HaliFACT but still interesting!
If Team Canada (Team Bottcher) fails to qualify for the playoff round at the World Men’s Curling Championship it will be the first time since 1976 that Canada has not had the opportunity to play for a medal.
This is old news but Bottcher botched it. He ruined a 45 year streak.
“I have a serious question. What is wrong with you?”
- Premier Ian Rankin, in reference to those not following COVID-19 protocols, May 3rd, 2021.

Halifax is the largest city in Atlantic Canada. The second largest is St. John’s, Newfoundland. (This is by population)
