'Falling Falling Stars' By Pia Foxhall (Explicit 18+) The 2nd book cover I've designed for #oldbooknewlook challenge I'm doing with lovely friends! This edition of the work is a cyanotype with digital edits.

This book differs from the other books I'll be working on in that Pia's works are mainly published and accessed via AO3 (Archive of our own). The website's reputation is as a home for fanfiction and other fan works. Pia (or not-poignant as he is known on most websites) has a vast collection of writing as original works on the site, updating the stories as they are written chapter by chapter! It's a fascinating way to consume their work; it feels like we are on a journey with the writer!

Best known for the 'fae tales', a magical, mythical collection of queer fantasy erotica and hurt/comfort stories. Pia's work is kink-positive and trauma-informed. The characters feel real in their exploration of love and hardships. I was going to say that calling Pia's work is 'porn-with-plot' would insult the world they have built. However, discounting erotica as a genre /is/ discrediting the author's work. Who says that porn cannot be insightful, moving or valuable to consume because its content is sexual? Many 18+ queer books and novellas aren't as literature due to homophobia /and/ the stigma of sexuality itself.

Falling Falling Stars is pt.2 (or book two) of the series 'Spoils' which started as essentially a high-school alternate Universe for their much-loved characters Augus and Gwyn. The 2nd part follows the story of Efnisien, an 'evil' character in the mainline fae tales universe that we don't get to see a lot of due to the series being told mainly by those who he affects. Within this new universe, Efnisien gets to redeem himself somewhat and has time to reflect on his past actions and his past trauma in the book- not excusing the actions he did, but learning to come to terms with his past whilst trying to build a new life for himself outside of the abusive home he leaves behind.

I wouldn't recommend this series to all my followers; not only is Pia's work sexually explicit it also touches on triggering subjects. On the blurb of my book cover, I've taken the covering page of the work, which has all of the 'tags' of the work; some of these are content warnings for the piece, examples of subjects that the characters go through or have gone through in the past. Pia also puts trigger warnings in the chapter notes at the top of the screen and has a community attentive to survivors. The work is trauma-informed, but the books might not be trauma friendly for some, depending on how you are affected. I love the 'fae tales', but I share it knowing that not everyone will, so please take care of yourselves!

The spider pots and crab pots are more angular than the tentacle pots and tend to look more aggressive and intimidating. These are more complex to make than the tentacle pots as the legs are made of multiple parts and if one breaks off it is far more problematic than losing a single tentacle.

god can we stop softening the term "disabled". disabled isn't a dirty word. it's not "special abilities" or "differently abled" or whatever the fuck you want to call it. people have disabilities that cause life to be hard and there's nothing wrong with acknowledging that?? it feels so invalidating when people are like "ohh you're not disabled!!! you have special abilities!!" like. omg a) it feels so infantilizing. b) by saying that you're basically saying our struggles aren't real...? some conditions are disabling. it's not hard to understand?? like there is NOTHING wrong with being disabled & using the word disabled. it's not offensive it's not a dirty word can we take the shame out of it pls oh my god. this goes for physical & non physical disabilities btw

Yes, this! A good theory you can read into is the social model of disability. This proposes that people are disabled by their society and environment. Arguing that we are not broken but have been born into a society that doesn't allow for diversity.

Using this model, we can argue for access for all people regardless of medical diagnosis and break down barriers to access that are so often put behind layers of bureaucracy by medical institutions. For example, getting a diagnosis for many things like autism and ADHD is so hard to get unless you pay over the odds for someone who will listen. However, if we create spaces that are sensory-friendly and understanding, then people with those conditions or symptoms will be helped regardless of diagnosis.

TDLR: We are disabled, and we use the language of disability to articulate our needs. However- we recognise that the fault doesn't lie within our bodies but with a society that is currently not set up to include us. We can end the cycle of self-hatred within our community whilst recognising that our lives are made harder by our conditions, which is heightened by a world which doesn't allow for our differences.
