i wish white puritanical “wellness” people didn’t successfully deter so many disabled people from herbal support :( it makes me so sad
like, cutting out seed oil will not cure your autoimmune disorder
however, regularly taking milky oats tincture truly can (often) help with nerve pain! chronic diarrhea can (often) be mitigated with just a few plants! etc
herbalism is the people’s healthcare. this world is full of (often queer) disabled herbalists who are ready to listen to you, believe you, and maybe even make the day a little easier
i know that dealing with invasive, capitalist “wellness” fuckers is draining and traumatizing, and i would never push any sort of treatment that is unwanted. i’m so sorry that people feel entitled to your body and health.
please know, they do not have a monopoly on plant medicine. it is always here for you if you’re interested, with disabled people all around the world giving and receiving herbal support. you’re always welcome, but never obligated.
step 1: get some fabric of your choice and some small elastic (i think mine was 1/3-1/2 of an inch/0.8-1.2 cm?) i ended up using about 1/2 of a yard (or meter) of elastic, i’m not sure how much fabric i used but I bought a yard and it was more than enough!
step 2: measure the circumference of the LARGEST PART of your wheelchair handles with the elastic, stretched out, and cut it to size. don’t make it too stretched, otherwise it might not work - cut a bit more than you think you’ll need. cut the fabric to a little greater than the length of your wheelchair handles, and about twice the width of your elastic. i eyeballed all of this, so this is far from an exact measurement.
step 3: attach safety pins to both sides of the elastic and sew it into the hem of the fabric (i used a running stitch, but i have no idea what stitch would be best for this.) pull the fabric over the safety so it is scrunched over the elastic, and put the two edges together, making a circle. unclip the safety pins and use one to fasten the two edges together, making sure the ends of the fabric are facing the OUTSIDE. a picture would have been good for this, but i didn’t take one - just know that what is the outside now will become the inside later, so get all the ugly stuff on the outside.
step 4: sew the ends of the fabric together and continue to stitch down the ends of the fabric, creating a tube. i used a…whip stitch?? i think?? this is probably not the best stitch for the job; i only know two stitches. use whatever stitch you want.
step 5: when you get to about the length you want your cover to be, fold it over, and sew the folded part into place, creating the end of the tube! turn it inside out for a nice and beautiful tube that is not ugly, but may be kind of ugly on the bottom. just ignore that and admire your (mostly) beautiful tube!!
step 5: attach your spikes using fabric glue or tacky glue! tacky glue will come out in the wash, but is easier to find, i think. you can also sew them on, if they have holes in them - i tried this, it’s a massive pain, i do NOT recommend.
i’m sure you could do this easier, better, and more efficiently with a sewing machine or any actual sewing knowledge! unfortunately, i don’t have sewing knowledge, and i shouldn’t be trusted with a sewing machine, as i am horrible at taking any precautions and have almost sewn through my finger before! my strategy for making these is probably the worst strategy ever! but you can use it if you want!
non disabled people will never fucking understand the feeling of finding one doctor in the entire world that listens to you, doesnt charge you full price, doesnt make you come all the way out to the clinic, and then losing that doctor because they stopped practicing. he was one of the only reasons i had faith i would be okay and now hes gone and its all his fucking fault because he had to go abuse people. fuck you my life is going to be so much worse because of you.
cripplepunk forever bitch. dont hide the parts of yourself that scare people or gross them out or weird them out. you deserve to have people who will listen to you and love you, and if they dont, you deserve to spit in their fucking faces.
Two things about me are true: I have the pain tolerance of a rhino from decades of living with chronic pain and enduring painful medical procedures, and a gust of wind can hurt me because I have fibromyalgia and allodynia is a bitch.
Today was mostly good following after the ER last night. My friend picked me n my husband up from the ER at 7am and made it to a food bank giveaway by 10am and got my shopping done for next 2 days since I won't have access to a microwave Sunday & Monday, Finally got my friend to get herself pepper spray today.
We get to my home library and they're holding a book sale so ofc me, my husband and friend go check it out and they had a couple of free tables so we loaded up on books we wanted and the stalker was staring at us the whole time so I kept eyes on him while my friend had fun getting free books and my husband carried them to the car.
I warned security team that I'm about to pepper spray or stab that stalker and all security said was "Alright, Just make sure it's not inside the library" so now I know I'll be fine to defend me, my husband & friend with no issues from the library. I just wish this dude would die or get a life.
