The compilation is a mix of some of the sounds I really love and are inspired by. Of course, it is a small example of music and ideas I encounter everyday. The world has a wealth of inspiration, and I am constantly surprised and challenged by these encounters. The compilation moves across a few different cultures and genres, but all of them carrying a radical sense of freedom and improvisatory sensibilities.

Chikiss Mixtape, on behalf of the Randfilmfest

From the Artist & Film Festival:

Chikiss aka Galina Ozeran is a singer-songwriter, composer, producer, DJ and synth diva. Born in Belarus, spending 15 years in St. Petersburg and now based in Berlin since 2015. She has made many domestic recordings - from contemporary piano and electro-acoustic pieces to minimalistic nostalgic synth-pop songs, shoegaze and trippy electronic avant-garde. She also makes mixtapes and music for some Russian movies and has played in plenty of bands. She has performed at numerous international festivals and clubs in Post-Soviet spaces and Europe - from Moscow’s “Olympiyski” to Berlin’s “Berghain.” She has curated Russian-Ukrainian female electronic compilation “She Knows More Than She Thinks” on the Californian cult label NOT NOT FUN. Her new album called New Season will be released on NOT NOT FUN in autumn 2016.

$UNC∆T Mix for International Tapes

$UNC∆T’s music bounces between both the analogue and digital realms. 2+2=22 concentrates on the latter, creating sparkling, granular digitised soundscapes, off kilter and dislocated.

Transmissions is the first release from 22 DEGREES, a London based label documenting the music of friends and acquaintances working loosely within an electronic framework. From the more traditional analog world to the boundary tugging digital, with a couple of curveballs thrown in along the way.

As International Tapes has moved to different digital homes, we’ve left a lot of our archive behind. While many of our most beloved posts are lost in the ether, some artifacts remain in dusty servers and deep within long neglected inboxes. When we find one of these gems, we’ll post it here as part of our new Intl Time Machine Mix Series. Some will have text and images, while some will just be sound. We’ll give you as much as we have.

Swim Platførm is the nom de plume of Belgian producer, photographer and aqua enthusiast Romeo Poirier. Roméo has his toes in several pools – from dapper jacuzzi pop to more murky explorations. Devon Loch Mix for International Tapes

Devon Loch is the musical alter-ego of writer and musician Richard Greenan. When he’s not making drowsy-dissonant organ lullabies, Richard runs the record label and arts collective Kit Records, while presenting a show on London’s NTS Radio. 

This mix is a collection of songs I found inspiring during the making and release of my recent record, Sleep Scale. For some reason I’m really into floaty, aquatic noises and synthetic voices at the moment. The firework sounds like a starting pistol to Shostakovich’s crazy horse race. It also features a bunch of unreleased tracks from the Kit Records crew (Swim, TNH, Cara & Antilöch). Bach is definitely spinning in his grave.
