more knitting nonsense

whyyyyy are interchangeable needle sets so expensive??? i literally started knitting about 5 min ago and i already have 5!!! different circular needles and for this hat i need another one with a longer cord to do magic circle at the top! and at this point it’s like why not just spend $270 on a full set so i don’t need to buy a new set of needles each time i wanna make something ???

crocheting has a much lower barrier to entry bc set of bates hooks was like $15 and my clover hook set was $50 (bc joanns rip had a 50% off coupon)

a bunch of nonsense about knitting

re-learning how to knit is so frustrating!! i originally learned english throwing like 20 years ago but that always felt really inefficient to me bc there’s so many movements. i’ve never been a consistent knitter so my skills have always been pretty shit.

then like 3 years ago, i learned how to crochet. and decided this year to try knitting again because i want to make a sweater and i don’t live laugh love crocheted garments.

so this time around, i was like let me try to knit continental because im more used to tensioning yarn in my left hand than my right hand. but for some reason i just can’t tension my yarn at all. i try to go back to throwing and my tension is abysmal and then in continental it’s wayyyy to tight. i cant figure out how to hold the yarn in a way that makes sense. and i tried to purl continental and it’s impossible????

this is all very silly but im at a very silly (derogatory) stage of my life and not being able to figure this out is frustrating and making me feel like shit.

also if you’re black, wear your hair natural, and can’t cornrow like me, you can wear your hair in twists and it should still work…but it is giving “didn’t develop this tech with black people in mind” bc you have to have you’re hair flat/scalp accessible.

watched legend of hao lan again and there’s this plot line that is totally dropped where xiuyu gives prince jiao hao lan’s hair pin to frame hao lan for xiuyu’s death and it just never ever gets brought up again??? (unrelated but im so curious as to why wu jinyan seems to play the same Very Smart More Clever and Quick Witted Than Anyone But Very Principled character in all the shows she’s in)

This line is iconic because she's calling him out for killing all his previous allies like Nian Gengyao and Longkodo. It's more subtle than her other sassy remarks in this scene but I love it. "Giving him a taste of his own medicine" indeed.

i have no investment in marvel movies at all anymore—BUT—i still think it’s so weird that they made sam captain america when bucky makes the most narrative sense. and bucky makes more sense (imo) bc we have his backstory whereas sam just hasn’t had his own media/shows where he isn’t a supporting cast member.

(also don’t love the characterization of bucky in anything besides first avenger/winter soldier. i will never get over steve going to the past to be with peggy bc it also makes no sense with her or his characterization, but that’s another story)

also from reviews i saw of the newest cap america movie, having a black man as the symbol of america/agent of the state and never addressing the literal just irony of it or having sam meaningfully be like “damn this is crazy” maybe captain america is actually more complex when the shield is held by a black man.

but bc marvel is cynical and “apolitical” there can’t be anything interesting that can be said.
