everything everywhere all at once spoilers if any of my moots care about that but
forever thinking about how the subtitle translation of this scene misses the element of choice present in what waymond says the official subtitle translation for the line is
In another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you
which works and is super memorable/catchy (if the many fanarts I've seen where people use that line is something to go off of) but what he says originally is
如果有来生,我还是会选择和你一起,报税,开洗衣店
which translates more directly to something along the lines of
if there is a next life*, I would still choose to open a laundromat and do taxes with you
*next life, based on the assumption that something like reincarnation or rebirth is possible which sounds far less... romantic/poetic (forgive my amateur TL) but I am a little sad that the element of choice is lost in the official translation :') the fact that he says that he would choose the life that main timeline evelyn and waymond have just feels really powerful and important to me... especially because it's business ceo waymond saying it to movie star evelyn, where they're both successful in a more traditional sense because they decided to not have a life together... and after hearing about their difficult laudromat owner life what this waymond says is essentially that he would still choose to be with her???
anyways I love this movie a lot :)
