A charm to enchant your waters, candles, incenses, temporary tools, etc etc.
It's really important to remember this is my own version inspired by Traditional Witchcraft. What is presented here is not a "universal" belief about how magic works, and it is influenced by my experiences and UPG/SPG.
The purpose of this charm is to elevate mundane/inert objects, including commercially harvested/mined plants and stones, so that they become filled with power and magically effective.
This is a basic and simple spell which can be adapted to a wide variety of uses. However, it lacks the power and permanence of a formal consecration.
I recommend performing this charm right before you use whatever it is you're enchanting. So, right before drinking the tea, right before using your broom to sweep out energies, etc.
I use a charm similar to this one to prepare spellcasting materials, such as enchanting salt and candles before using them in a spell.
This charm has like two steps and takes about fifteen seconds to do in the moment, but this post runs a little long because I explain the theory along the way.
Materials:
Whatever it is to be enchanted
A traditional symbol of spiritual power, ideally one simple enough that you can draw it in the air with your finger or picture it in your mind
A very short little incantation (you will be writing it)
A traditional symbol of spiritual power, eh?
"Traditional" as in you didn't make it up - so, not your own sigils.
This is based on my belief about how this charm and magical symbols work.
If you use a really old and powerful magical symbol - like a five-pointed star or the Christian cross - you're tapping into the power of the symbol itself.
If you use a sigil that you created and charged with your own energy, you're going to be drawing on your own power to use this charm. Which of course, totally fine - it's just that it's more draining.
("What if my sigil is designed to channel external power?" you still have to spend your energy to maintain the sigil, like having to repair a bucket you use to carry water)
Whatever symbol you use definitely matters. If you use one of the elemental triangles, it's going to impart elemental energy into the charm. If you use Brigid's Cross, it's going to impart her energy into the charm. If you want to impart your own energy on purpose, you can use your own signature :)
It's worth putting thought into what energies you want to impart. You can keep a collection of symbols handy to impart special kinds of energy if you want, or use something universal like the pentagram for everything.
A very short little incantation
This can be anything. I enjoy somewhat standardizing mine, it just helps me get into the groove. You usually want your incantation to do 3 things:
Acknowledge the power behind the symbol you're using.
State that you need the power provided by the symbol and that you want this power to go into the object you're enchanting.
Clearly state what you want the outcome to be.
Here are a couple of examples. Materials in [brackets] indicate that word should be swapped out depending on what you're actually charming. You can be plain or poetic, whatever works:
By the power of Christ, I charm this [candle] to purify. Through Him this room will be cleansed.
Five elements fill you one by one, 'till this [salt] shines like the sun. Hear this task assigned to thee: help my spell and make it well. As my will, so shall it be.
I empower this [incense] to dispel unwanted spirits through the powers of the Sun and Moon.
You do not need to speak it aloud. Just reading it or going over it in your mind will suffice.
Focus and willpower?
Eh. If you've got focus and willpower to spare, feel free to spend them on this. But you don't really need them.
If you're using symbols of actual spiritual power and clearly directing them unto a goal, it should work. Powers don't need your belief in order to be powerful. Energies can still move when you're not focused on them.
If your incantation includes directions that clearly indicates you are A) calling on magical power, B) that the power needs to go into the object, and C) what the power should do for you, then that's all you need.
Staying in the present moment is really helpful, but you don't need to really burn the lamp oil on this, you know?
Putting it all together:
Using your finger, draw the spiritual symbol over the thing you want to charm. Alternatively:
Draw it on a piece of paper and hold the paper nearby
Picture the symbol in your mind
Speak, think, or sign your very short little incantation. Make sure you are clearly indicating that you are using the symbol for its power, that you want the power to go into the object, and that all this is being done so that the object aligns to your stated intent.
That's it :)
Wee bit of troubleshooting
Magical symbols are like the crystalized form of the powers they represent. The charm has power because the symbol you employ radiates with power. It is then up to you to direct it and instruct it according to your needs.
If you're not having success, try changing the symbol you use.
If the symbol is one representing a specific deity or being, ensure you've got at least a neutral relationship with them. If you skipped out on an oath to a god and you're avoiding them, using their symbol is probably not a great idea.
If you are new to magic, spending more willpower and focus will likely be of assistance to you.
Witch tip: Buy crystals from rockhounds, not metaphysical shops. A rockhound is a lot more likely to charge you a fair rate based on actual value as opposed to a markup.
Side note, it’s usually good to check the actual going rate of stones to know if you may be getting ripped off. There is an insane stock to meet the incredible high demand for crystals, so there are plenty for everyone out there. Don’t feel rushed or pressured to buy anything.
Also, it’s a red flag if your provider doesn’t know where the crystals they’re selling were sourced. Same for most things one could find at a metaphysical shop, but the intense demand for crystals has created a pretty horrific market that relies on slave labor fairly often. The modern crystal market has been referred to as the new blood diamond trade for a reason!
Let’s all aim to be a bit more ethical with our consumption when we can, and acknowledge that having any kind of a collection is a privilege that we need to take some accountability for.

This is a bit of a larger spread that I made for my birthday, but can be used for the new year as well! I typically like to do this on my birthday because it is a more personal way of counting years! Anyways, I really love the result I got, Honest, but what I needed to know! Looking forward to next year’s new adventures!

Home Protection Bowl
Supplies
[ ] black or white candle + something to carve it with
[ ] bowl or dish
[ ] protection oil(optional)
[ ] a piece of hair/fur/scales/etc from everyone you wish to protect as a taglock (optional)
Herbs + Crystals
[ ] salt
[ ] cloves
[ ] agrimony
[ ] rosemary
[ ] nettle leaf
[ ] hyssop
[ ] comfrey
[ ] eggshells
[ ] lavender
[ ] amethyst
[ ] obsidian
[ ] clear quartz
(not all are necessary, pick what feels right to you)
Instructions
1. Cleanse your space and your bowl. I like to do this with incense, however you can do it using sound, sprays, visualizations, etc. Pick whatever method(s) feel right to you.
2. Fill the bowl with salt and add your eggshells and herbs (except for the cloves). As you add each herb, set your intention and express your gratitude to the plants for aiding in protecting you. If you're using crystal chips, you can also add those at this time.
3. Stir the herbs counterclockwise to banish any residual negative energy a few times, then clockwise to welcome in the protective energies
4. Grab your taglocks. If you don't have DNA items such as hair, you can write their full name and birthdays on a slip of paper or bay leaf. Bury them into the salt, visualizing the salt as a protective shield around them.
5. Place 5 cloves around the bowl in the places where the points on a pentacle would be, and then place your charged crystals.
6. Grab your candle and carve word "protected" into it. Hold the candle in both hands and concentrate on who and what it would be protecting. If you have a protection oil, annoint your candle at this time. Place it in the middle of your bowl
7. Light the candle with intention and let it burn all the way down. If you'd like to enchant any jewelry or items to protect you in your travels, you can place them in the bowl before lighting to charge them
Refresh once a month, or whenever the energy feels off and you think it caught something
Happy witching!!
Normally and usually I very much love being a pagan, but fucks forsaken some of y'all are seriously obnoxious every Christmas and Easter.
It's almost 2025 and you're not being persecuted for paganism, especially if you're white. Get over it.

Some Yule ideas for those limited in how they can celebrate
(broom closet, lack of materials, disability, whatever. all these require minimal effort and materials)
Drink herbal tea, or mix things like cinnamon into your tea/coffee
Listen to music about Yule or instrumental music with bells
Wear colors/makeup matching Yule colors (red, green, and gold)
Pray/meditate with Yule/Yule correspondences in mind
Say/think/write Yule chants
Make plans for how you'll enjoy the return of the sun (whether that's planting a garden or feeling it's warmth on your skin or just seeing it's brightness in your window)
Think about what the return of the sun means to you
Do some self reflection or shadow work (if you're in the mindset where it'd be healthy for you)
Work with deities that correspond with Yule
If you cannot use candles/fire, make sure your house is brightly lit in other ways (if you have LED lights it'd be cool to light them in Yule colors!)
And lastly, wish other pagans a blessed Yule.
Blessed Yule, hope you all find ways to celebrate! May your days be bright.

Updated Post. Imma be real for a sec, some of the new information that was brought to my attention is amazing and, in fact, very helpful, so I'm making an updated post to this one here.
A Beginners Guide to Crystals.
How to spot fakes (typically glass) and dyed crystals, Crystal Shapes, and Crystal Color Associations are the topics in this post.
How to spot glass, resin, and other types of fake crystals. (You can still 100% use them in witchcraft, but if you want genuine crystals, then this guide may help you do just that!)
If you think that your crystals are fake, here are some things you can look and do to tell.
Rubbing your crystal with a finger should reveal tiny pores on the surface of the crystal. If it does not have any pores and is instead completely smooth, then it's possible that it's glass or resin.
While some crystals can have naturally formed air bubbles in them, it is rare and may just be glass that was shaped into the crystal.
You can easily search up "fake crystal name" vs. "real crystal name" and compare the two pictures.
You can also look up "dyed crystals" vs. "undyed crystals" to see what a natural coloring of crystals should look like.
If you're worried that your turquoise is fake, then you can take the tip of a hot pin and press it into the crystal, if it burns then it's real, however if it starts to melt its a fake.
Opalite and Goldstone are glass crystals, man made.
9/10 times if your Crystal looks very brightly colored it could have been dyed.
I'll put in some pictures of glass/resin crystals next to the real crystals to show the difference.
Natural coloring of crystals occurs because of the different metals and other minerals that are absorbed during the creation of the crystal. Quartz is just silica and oxygen, so it's appears colorless, but when iron is absorbed, it creates purple or yellow, depending on how oxidized the iron was in the creation of the crystal.
Natural citrine does form, but it's not going to look burned or splochty.
Splotchy color in crystals usually means that it's been dyed, as you can see in the first two images. Dyed crystals also very obviously look dyed because of how brightly they are colored.
Even in Malachite, the green in the fake malachite is brighter than the genuine malachite. You can also look at the unnatural banding on the fake and compare it to real malachite.
Real opal is not see-through like Opalite is. Real opal is more clouded with spots of color, while opalite will have streaks of color or look like the see-through ones above.
Real turquoise is going to have brown or black webbings and cracks or chips, while dyed howlite is going to be smooth with brown or black inclusions. You can take a swab of acetone and rub it across the crystal to see if any coloring comes off. If the color does come off or the crystal looks lighter in the spot, then it's more than likely dyed howlite. You can also do that hot pin trick mentioned above.
The picture on the left is dyed howlite, while on the right is the natural turquoise. You can see that the natural crystal has deep webbing into the stone, very obvious cracks while the holite doesn't have cracks, only webbing that looks like it but it's going to be smooth along those lines.
Crystal Shapes in witchcraft
Double pointed- absorbs and emits energy.
Cluster- Radiates energy.
One point- concentrates and directs energy.
Raw- Strong open energy.
If the crystal is more round then the energy is going to be calmer
If the crystal has multiple points, then the energy is directed off of each point.
The size of the crystal doesn't dictate the amount of energy it gives off.
Different crystals have different energies that they give off. The ones most commonly used in witchcraft and their properties are listed below.
Clear quartz- Clarity
Amethyst- Grounding
Citrine- Happiness
Rose quartz- love
Black Tourmaline- Protection
Obsidian- also protection
Aventurine- luck
Tigers eye- money
Labradorite- aura healing and protection
There are many other crystals that give off similar energies that can be used. As stated, these are just some of the more commonly seen ones.
Now, different crystals can give off different energies depending on the person using them. Some people may see use amethyst as protection rather than obsidian or black tourmaline. Some may use aventurine for money spells over tigers eye. That's 100% okay.
Crystal Color Associations.
Color associations can depend on how the witch feels about a color. This is the general association plus how I use colors in my path.
Red- Anger/passion
Orange- Courage (or in my case repulsion)
Yellow- Happiness
Green- Luck and money
Blue- Calming or sadness (depending on the mood)
Purple- Spirituality
Brown- grounding
Pink- self love
Grey- solemn, seriousness.
With some crystals, the color is also associated with the things listed above. However, again, not all witches will use the color associations of crystals this way, and that's 100% okay. Each witch has a different path and different associations when it comes to the tools they use in their path.
If you're interested in learning about what energies different crystals give off, often just googling "what is crystal name used for in healing" and you will receive an answer.
Though with any type of research, please look at 3-5 other sources that say the same or similar thing. Though it may take more digging to come to a conclusion.
Thank you for reading the updated post, and let me know if I missed anything or if you'd like to add anything. A big thanks to everyone who has corrected the previous post on this subject and any posts that may have contained misinformation in them.
