The Wall of Thorns - A Spell of Protection
Then round that place there grew a hedge of thorns thicker every year, until at last the whole castle was hidden from view, and nothing of it could be seen but the vane on the roof. [ā¦] From time to time many Kingsā sons came and tried to force their way through the hedge; but it was impossible for them to do so, for the thorns held fast together like strong hands, and the young men were caught by them, and not being able to get free, there died a lamentable death.
- The Sleeping Beauty
Intent: To protect oneās home and property.
Ideal Timing: Full Moon, but can be made anytime.
Materials:
Glass Jar with Lid
Black Taper Candle
Planter Pot & Soil
Super Glue
Pins & Thorns
Duct Tape
Herbs: Dill, Basil, Salt, Vinegar, Lemon or Pickle Juice
Load the bottle with the pins, herbs, and just enough of your chosen liquid to fill it about ¾ full. It should be noted that some witches prefer to use urine for their home protection bottles, both for traditional and territorial reasons. This is certainly a viable choice if you are comfortable with it, but if not, then the options listed above will be quite effective.
Seal the top and secure with a strip of duct tape or electrical tape to prevent leaks. Once it is sealed well, begin to attach the flat ends of the thorns to the outside of the bottle using the superglue so that the points face outward. Be very careful not to stick yourself while handling the bottle!
Once all the thorns are in place, light the black candle and drip the wax over the top of the bottle. As the wax falls, hold the image of a thorny protective barrier in your mind and continue to turn the bottle, letting the wax spill down the sides to help hold the thorns in place. Keep dripping the wax until the cap is completely covered and all the thorns have been secured.
Pour some dirt into the planter pot, place the bottle inside, and pour in more dirt until the bottle is covered. Keep the pot somewhere on your property. You can even grow flowers in it, if you like, but it is not recommended that you use it for anything edible.
If you move to a new home, be sure to take the pot with you, or dig up the bottle and take it along; to remove the ward, break the wax seal and empty the contents of the bottle somewhere safe.

Property Protection Ritual
Components:
Railroad spikes
Compass (optional)
Mallet/hammer
Anointing oil (for the spikes)
Protective smoke blend
Cast iron cauldron (or other high heat resistant vessel)
Charcoal tablet
Matches/lighter
Timing: New Moon - secrecy, renewal
On the eve of the new moon, unbind the spikes and anoint them with the pre-prepared oil.
Take up the compass and mallet, and strike the spikes into the ground at the cardinal directions (alternatively you can do the four corners of the property).
Prepare the cauldron with charcoal, light the tablet and as you burn the loose incense, walk the boundary between the spikes.
Continue walking as many laps as you see fit.*
Once finished, extinguish the charcoal tablet.
*For additional help, you may call upon your gods, spirits, ancestors, energies, etc to strengthen the protection. Or perhaps you can chant, ring bells, sing, or recite poetry to add a verbal component to this spell.
Witchcraft Exercise - Spring Cleaning
Thereās a marked tradition of cleaning and airing out the house in the springtime when the weather warms. As youāre dusting and tidying and getting rid of winter stagnation, take some time to do the same with your craft.
Clean and organize your workspace. If you have an altar space or a shelf where you keep bottles and jars and the like, remove everything from the surface and give it a good dusting. Take the opportunity to rearrange things or swap out pieces if it suits you. If you have ritual tools that donāt often get cleaned, check them for signs or rust or wear and give them a bit of love. Repair things that need fixing, if you can. If you have an iron cauldron that you use for fire magic, get a wire brush or some steel wool and gently remove any burnt residue left inside.
Sort through your supplies. If you have lots of candles and crystals and small items laying about, consider getting some small totes or craft organizers to keep things tidy. Divided storage boxes for beads or scrapbooking supplies are great for small items, and shoebox-sized caddies are perfect for taper, chime, and votive candles. Organizing things will make your space easier to navigate and also gives you a proper idea of what you have on hand. Which might help you resist impulse purchases the next time youāre out shopping for witchcraft supplies. While youāre tidying, be sure to discard any rubbish, candle stubs, wax blobs, herb scraps, bits of string, incense bases, and so forth that might be cluttering up the place.Ā
Discard things that are too old or worn to be useful. Dried plants and seasonings can usually be kept for 1-3 years if they remain in sealed containers. If they have no scent anymore or smell musty or mildewy, discard them and sanitize the container. If youāre using supermarket spices, you can use the expiration date on the container as a guide. Powdered material will likely last longer than whole herbs or cut-and-sifted material. One helpful tip is to put a purchase date on packets or bags of herbs when you buy them, or to put a little date sticker on your jars of herbs when you refill them. (Anyone whoās worked in food service will probably be familiar with the concept of container dating or day-dotting.)
If you make oils or tinctures or suchlike in your practice, check on these as well. Make sure nothing has gone off or lost itsā potency. Day-dotting your potion containers will help with this as well. A simple sticker with the name of the brew and the date it was bottled will help you keep track of your supplies and know when something needs to be tossed and replaced. (You can also print labels with the ingredients and purpose of the brew if youāre feeling super organized.)
Reorganize your books and resources. Review what's there and see if there are any materials that need to be weeded out, donated, or discarded. Remember that as you grow and progress, some things will become obsolete or may show themselves to be unhelpful or inaccurate. It's okay to remove things from your resource library that no longer serve you if you want to make some space on the shelves.
You can also cleanse your workspace and/or components while youāre tidying if you wish. It doesnāt have to be a full clean-slate-everything-must-go cleansing, but it can be helpful to just clear out stagnation or bring in some freshness and vitality.
Happy Witching! š§¼

Witchcraft for the Chronically Fatigued
Fatigue looks at things such as tiredness, drowsiness, exhaustion, weakness, lethargy and memory issues and saysĀ āI can do all that and more!ā.Ā It leaves you feeling utterly trapped in your own body; unable to move, or even think at times. It fluctuates, but is always looming.Ā
While this post is open for all, it is written for those who truly relate to this all-consuming feeling (due to ME/CFS, other chronic illnesses, mental illness, or undiagnosed causes). Not all of these may work for you, but hopefully they inspire something that will.Ā For general low energy witchcraft, check out my Bedridden Witch Series!
As always: witchcraft is to be used in addition to proper medical care, treatment and medication; not as a sole alternative.
To draw energy:
If you cannot produce your own, magically created will be just fine!
Crystals.Ā
I tend to use clear quartz for an energy boost, but trust your intuition; if something calls to you, itās for a reason.Ā
Keep it near your bedside table, under your pillow, hold it in your hand or place it on your body where you feel the fatigue most strongly centered.Ā
When on the go, carry it in your pocket or wear as jewelry. If it is larger, carry in a bag and hold it when you need it.Ā
Charge using a charging board or the elements.Ā
Crystals for fatigue
Waters.
Physically touching water brings me energy. I keep jars of snow, rain, storm, river, stream (etc, etc.) water and will dip my fingers in it and mark that parts of my body where the fatigue feels strongest. Be aware of pollutants and do not ingest!
The same method can be done with tap water (or water charged under the sun or moon)
Drink sun water or sun tea (start with drinking safe water and let it absorb the energies of the sun).
Some people find moon water to be energizing (same process as above, just with the moon).Ā
See also: Bedridden witch: Bath edition.
Other elements.
Note what is energizing to you and what is draining to you. Consider: the sun, moon (and itās phases), weather (rain, overcast, snow, storm, wind), cold vs. hot, the earth, fire, air, etc.
Once you find which elements are energizing to you, find ways to incorporate them into your life. Examples: jars of different waters or soils, rocks collected from places, candles, and more.
I usually draw energy up from the earth by placing my palms flat towards the earth by the sides of my body. So if I was lying down, my arms would be at my sides with my palms facing down.
Expose yourself or protect yourself. Iāll use my personal experiences as an example here⦠Rain often energizes me. When it rains, Iāll open my windows, and if Iām able Iāll step outside or collect some water. On the flipside, full moons often drain me. Iāll close my windows and curtains, hang an extra blanket over my bedroom window, use water to paint protective sigils on the window and increase my wards.

Practicing the craft with energy limitations:
Tips and tricks:
I highly recommend preparing things when your energy allows, so itās always ready to go when you need it (and isnāt dependent on current energy levels).Ā
Cleansing: Let other things do your work for you. Open your windows/get fresh air, steam or smoke, sound, etc. Bedridden energy cleansing.
Divination: Use apps when physical movement is hard. One card spreads, shorten your pendulum so you donāt need to lift your arm, divine using the elements, etc. Bedridden divination.
Spells: Make your own spell kits. Spell jars and sachets are also an excellent way to already have the spell prepared, set it up so you can simply shake it to re/activate the spell.
Warding: Create physical ties for your wards that arenāt reliant on consistent upkeep (as a failsafe), and reinforce your other ward layers when you have the energy. I create far more layers than I need so when I am unable to reinforce them, they still protect me.Ā
Worship: Compile prayers and devotions somewhere you can easily find and read them, have a wall altar for easy maintenance, keep offerings simple (a glass of water, for example). Bedridden worship.

Spooky Homemade Twix Bars
Simple Moon Spell - One Dozen Wishes
Intent: To create a jar of potential wishes, to be used as needed.
Materials:
Small Jar
Whole Bay Leaves (12)
Moonlight
In addition to their usefulness in spells for protection, wisdom, and healing, bay leaves are a potent ingredient for wishmaking. This spell does not specifically create a wishing spell, but it prepares a small supply of leaves for future spellwork, using the fulfilling energy of the full moon to pre-charge the component.
Obtain a bag of whole bay leaves. These can usually be found in the spices and seasonings aisle at the grocery store, or you can order them from a botanical supplier if you wish. Prepare a clean, dry jar with a lid as you see fit. Select twelve leaves, as whole and unbroken as possible, and place them into the jar. Cap the jar and leave it to soak up the moonlight on the next full moon evening.
When you have need of some wishmaking magic, take a single leaf from the jar, write your wish upon it, and use it in your spell. The use of the leaf depends on your casting method - you can include it in a jar or sachet charm, cast it into fire or water, or bury it to help your desired results grow, to name just a few.
Use the leaves as needed and when the supply is exhausted, you can pick twelve new leaves and refill the jar.
Happy Witching! š®š
Roughskin - A Protective Glamour Spell
āBefore I consent to your wish, I shall require three things - a dress as golden as the sun, another as silvery as the moon, and a third as glittering as the stars; and besides this, I shall require a mantle made of a thousand skins of rough fur sewn together, and every animal in the kingdom must give a piece of his skin toward it.ā
[ā¦] In the night, when every one slept, she rose and took from her jewel-case a gold ring, a gold spinning-wheel, and a golden hook. The three dresses of the sun, moon, and stars she folded in so small a parcel that they were placed in a walnut shell; then she put on the fur mantle, stained her face and hands black with walnut-juice, and committing herself to the care of Heaven, she left her home.
- The Princess in Disguise
āā
Intent: To protect and disguise oneself from those who mean to harm you.
Materials:
Empty walnut shell, in halves
A piece of your own hair or a nail clipping
Small patchwork cloth bag
Glue & rubber band
Herbs: Dogbane, Hyssop, Basil, Heather, Juniper Berries, Poppy Seeds
Ideal Timing: Full Moon, for protection, but can be performed anytime.
Obtain an empty walnut shell. You can use the shells off of the whole bagged walnuts that most grocery stores carry in the produce section. Try to crack the walnut so that the shell comes away in two halves. This makes reassembling it for the charm much easier.
Mix the following herbs together in small pinches:
Dogbane - for disguise
Hyssop - for warding off harm
Basil - for general protection
Heather Blossom - for warding off assault
Juniper Berries - for secret-keeping
Poppy Seeds - for invisibility
Carefully stuff the herb mixture into the two empty halves of the walnut. Use little dots of glue to help the herbs stay in place. At the very last, add a strand of your hair or a nail clipping. Line the edges of the shell with glue and carefully fit them back together. Wrap them with the rubber band to keep everything in place until the glue dries.
Once the charm is dry, place it in a patchwork cloth bag. You can purchase one or make it yourself. It only has to be large enough to hold the walnut.
Hold the bag between your palms and say:
I garb myself in many skins To keep harm out and safety in I place the truth within this shell Now guard my life and guard it well
You can either carry the bag with you whenever you feel you need protection, or you can hide the bag in a wooden box if one is available.

Table of Plenty - A Spell of Providence
Then the wise woman said, āWipe away thy tears, Two-eyes, and I will tell thee something to stop thee ever suffering from hunger again. Just say to thy goat āBleat, my little goat, bleat. Cover the table with something to eat!ā and then a clean well-spread little table will stand before thee, with the most delicious food upon it of which thou mayst eat as much as thou art inclined for. And when thou hast had enough, and hast no more need of the little table, just say āBleat, bleat, my little goat, I pray, And take the table quite away. Then it will vanish again from thy sight.ā Hereupon the wise woman departed.
- One-Eye, Two-Eyes, and Three-Eyes
Intent: To obtain needed money or provisions.
Materials:
Paper and a writing utensil
A pinch or two of rice
A white candle (a taper or chime candle is best)
Ideal Timing: Waxing or Full Moon
This spell is not meant to bring great wealth or fancy possessions to the caster. It is to be used only to bring yourself or another something that is badly needed, particularly if unfortunate financial circumstances are making paying the bills or buying necessities difficult. It is meant to tide you over until your situation improves, and can be combined with or cast in addition to other money-drawing or prosperity spells where needed. As such, the materials are as simple as possible.
Write what you need on the paper. The list can be as long or as short as you need it to be, but the more specific you are, the better the spell will work. Be sure that you only ask for what you really need. A little excess is fine, in case of something unexpected, but donāt go overboard.
Fold the paper into a small packet with the rice inside and place it in a fire-safe dish. Light the white candle and carefully drip wax onto the packet, turning it until it is completely covered on all sides. (I suggest using tweezers or a pencil to turn the packet so you donāt burn your fingers.)
As you drip the wax onto the packet, chant seven times:
BlessƩd rice and words of power, Aid me in my needful hour. Hear my cry, I pray you heed, The help I ask comes not from greed.
Hide the packet away somewhere it wonāt be disturbed. If you have a few coins to hide with it in a jar or crock, so much the better.
Once your circumstances have improved and you are once more back on your feet, retrieve the packet and burn it in a fire-safe dish. Recite over the flames:
You gave me help when I had none; You have my thanks, your work is done.
The spell may be repeated as often as you have need.
