Rules & Guidelines for Augustellar 2026: Project Hail Mary
Augustellar is open to creators of all shapes, sizes, and (alien) species! That being said, there are basic guidelines to keep in mind so that this event can run smoothly for everyone.
General Participant Rules:
Must have at least one valid social media account.
Must be a creator of some form of physical, digital, and/or written content.
All hateful or discriminatory behavior is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to transphobic, homophobic, racist or xenophobic views, misogyny/misandry, ableism, or hate speech/slurs.
Augustellar is open to all creators, and as such it is very much preferred that participants keep to SFW art. However, NSFW works are not prohibited. Any NSFW works ABSOLUTELY MUST be tagged with any and all proper tags, i.e nudity, sex, 18+, TW's, under 18 DNI, etc. NSFW works must also be properly labeled/hidden by the creator upon posting for others to block if they wish. Improper tagging of NSFW works will result in us not reblogging/interacting with your Augustellar posts.
All Project Hail Mary fan theories and ships are allowed in equal measure so long as they remain true to the Official Prompt list and the theme of PHM itself. If you don't like, block and/or move on. This is not the place for ship wars or fandom infighting. If Rocky can watch a human look disgust while eating, you can keep scrolling. Remember, keep the Project Hail Mary fandom a kind and understanding one!
Augustellar is a "curate your own experience" event. We are trusting participants to utilize the blocking function of any tags, TW's, or users in order to make this event safe and enjoyable for themselves.
Treat everyone with kindness and respect. If someone has made something you dislike or disagree with, move on. Do not flame, send hate, criticize, threaten, or otherwise "call out" a fellow creator. Anyone who does any of the above will be banned from Augustellar.
You are allowed to participate in Augustellar as a group if your chosen medium is a shared one; examples might include a fanfiction with multiple authors, art collabs, podfic, craft collabs, etc. All participants must read and abide by these rules, give their permission for the creative works to be posted for Augustellar, and be referenced/tagged. Please use our ask box if you have questions.
You are allowed to participate in Augustellar as an individual while you are also participating in a group; examples might include creating digital art for the event while also beta reading a fanfiction for a mutual, working on art trades with a friend while making podfic as your main independent project, or generally working with a group for Augustellar while also creating your own individual art for Augustellar. Please use our ask box if you have questions.
As an individual, please limit your Augustellar posts to one per day/prompt. If working with as a pair or group, you may create or be a part of more than one Augustellar post per day/prompt as that pair or group.
Do not spam other participants. Do not ask for art or freebies of any kind. Augustellar is non-profit. You are not entitled to the time or artistic works of another creator, nor are they required to use your ideas or comments in their art. Harassment will result in a ban from Augustellar.
You are allowed to sell art/works that you create for Augustellar if you so wish. If possible, we ask to please wait until Sept. 1st to do so. Please do not use Augustellar as a way to sell any form of art or product. You are allowed to make a mention in the applicable post(s) that your work will be available for sale in the future, but please do not advertise beyond this.
You are allowed to include a link to your personal art blog, website, or other social media platforms in your posts. You are also allowed to include a link to open commissions or art sales, while keeping in mind the previous rule.
Art/Writing/Content Rules:
ABSOLUTELY NO AI IS PERMITTED FOR AUGUSTELLAR. If you use ANY form of AI platform for disability assistance purposes, please reach out to the Augustellar MOD. If you are given permission to continue, you will be required to tag your creations with proper tags.
All creations for Augustellar must be entirely of your own making. Any joint creations must have all participants tagged and/or mentioned.
All creations for Augustellar must be your original work. Any references must be tagged. If a work is based upon something from another creator, you must have a) permission from that creator to make something based upon their work, and b) tag/credit that creator. If a creator has given open permission for their work to be used for inspiration, you must still tag/credit them as such. Absolutely no plagiarism.
Art is inherently political, yes. That being said, please refrain from using Augustellar as a place to create art that portrays politics, real life events, current events, or global crises as a joke, as ragebait, or as a controversy. Memes, however, are welcome; just remember that everyone has a different sense of humor.
Community is highly recommended for Augustellar! Please share your WIP's with friends or mutuals, trade ideas, swap art, and more. Engaging with your fellow creatives is a positive thing. Comment, reblog, like, share! (And check out the Discord link down below under the cut to get in on more of that!)
With the above in mind: do not give concrit unless a creator explicitly states that they wish for it. In the same vein, please explicitly state if you would like concrit on your creative works.
Augustellar creations must be reasonably based upon the Official Prompt List (here) and/or the 2026 theme of Project Hail Mary. Fanart from other fandoms is allowed, within reason. Augustellar is not the place for artwork of personal OC's and stories.
You are allowed to create works for another user as a gift if so desired. You are not allowed to use art created as a gift as a bargaining chip or demand for art in return.
Augustellar is a nonprofit event and does not own any part of Project Hail Mary. Any upcoming prizes, raffles, or contests will not be for-profit.
Please remember that this event is hosted out of love of space, astronomy, and the PHM movie, and it is meant to be a source of joy and creativity for all!

How Do You Participate in Augustellar?
We've gotten a lot of asks about this, so let's go over how taking part in this event works!
First and foremost, Augustellar is open to all types of creatives. That means you can be a traditional artist with pens and paper, a writer of novels or poems, an astrophotographer, a fiber artist, a bookbinder, an essayist. Maybe you make stained glass suncatchers in your spare time, or tiny felted woodland critters. Maybe you like making webweaves, or podficcing, or costume design. Oftentimes, fandom events are solely centered around traditional/digital art and writing, which leaves out a huge amount of the creative arts. Augustellar is open to all of the above and more!
Now, to participate you will need:
An active social media account such as Tumblr; this can also include AO3, Discord, TikTok, Instagram, Bluesky, Pinterest, YouTube, a personal blog or website, etc.

A love of space, astronomy, and the universe around us, from our lovely moon to the most distant, unknown galaxies. For this years theme, you'll also ideally love Project Hail Mary!
A creative hobby or hobbies to make art with!
That's it! Partipating is as simple as creating art in whatever ways you create art, then sharing it!
Now, please keep in mind: Augustellar will start on August 1st, and the challenge is to create something every day of the month with our daily prompt list. That means no posting before August 1st and no skipping ahead. You are allowed—encouraged!—to brainstorm, thumbnail, or otherwise prep what you'll be working on, but please stay true to the spirit of the event. The point of Augustellar, and the challenge, is to practice and enjoy your craft(s) every day for an entire month. It's to prove to yourself that your artistic talents are worth consistent time and effort. Enjoy the process!
Lastly, we want to make this clear: participating in Augustellar counts if you make one work, or 31 works. There's no right or wrong way to participate in art challenges. Every creator will have a different goal and a different outcome!
The best way to enjoy Augustellar will be to find the happy medium of challenging yourself to try something new and take accountability for your own artistic progress, while also remembering that art is meant to be a source of joy. One or three works of art at the end of the month is better than no works! That being said, it's easy to let your hobbies slide, to say, "oh, tomorrow I'll do it, I can't today." Be mindful of your hard limits, but remember: you and your craft are worth the challenge of progress.
As Ryland Grace said, and as we hope you'll say: "I'll try my best." That's all we can ever ask!

So What is Augustellar?
First off, welcome if you're new here! We're happy to have you!
Augustellar is an unofficial, month-long creative event centered around space, astronomy, and all things out-of-this-world. And for August 2026, the theme is Project Hail Mary! All 31 prompts are inspired by the movie and/or book. Amaze amaze amaze!
Taking place from August 1st to August 31st, each day will feature a Project Hail Mary-themed prompt meant to inspire creators —from traditional and digital artists to fan artists, writers, poets, knitters, photographers, decorative cake bakers, whatever fuels your starship—to create something new! If you've ever heard of or participated in Inktober, MerMay, or NaNoWriMo, Augustellar is a similar type of creative challenge.
The goal of Augustellar is simple: create something every day, for 31 days. That might be 31 individual works of fanart, or 31 written short stories, or 31 embroidered quilt squares like Grace's! Augustellar is meant to challenge you to practice your creative hobbies every day for one month, either as kick-off to your future artistic routine or just as a way to prove to yourself you can do it. And what's better than Project Hail Mary to help us to, quite literally, aim for the stars?
Overall, we're here to balance joy and creativity with consistency and community! Plenty of artists know that sometimes, no matter how much you want to, making art is hard to find the time and motivation for. Augustellar is a low-stakes way to not only find inspiration in something amazing like Project Hail Mary, but to work on our artistic accountability, create a routine for ourselves, practice our craft, find like-minded creators to engage with, and more.
We're so excited to see what everyone creates! We had some amazing prompts submitted, and we hope the Augustellar 2026 Official Prompt List is getting those creative juices flowing! Excite excite excite!

Augustellar will be running from August 1st to August 31st. We're sharing the Official Prompt List now so that all participants have some time for ideas to percolate or to start one some basic artistic groundwork, but the goal of this event is to create art every day for 31 days. That means no blasting off early!

hi i know ive been gone, blame it on quarantine (not great for the brain + ive just deleted most of my social media off my phone at this point) and also it took like 14 clicks for the new post button to even do anything for me so that i could write this psa lmao :| the new dashboard is too ugly and dysfunctional for me to use + the opt-out button has vanished, so it looks like tumblr has finally dug itself into a hole deep enough that i’m not gonna bother dealing with it anymore. uhhhhhhhh idk yall lmao ill prolly delete all of my blogs at some point in the near future but ill leave this post up for a bit. i think most ppl who would wanna find me outside of tumblr already have some alternative way of contacting me though (instagram/twitter/discord/whatsapp/telegram/etc) but if u dont then just message me and let me know if u need any of those details ok peace
leaving this blog up as an archive. i may delete eventually but either way consider me gone. i won’t be checking this account anymore, and all of my other blogs (except for the main one that this sideblog is attached to) have been deleted at this point. seeing as the site loads at an excruciatingly slow speed for me on desktop now, i cannot functionally use tumblr in its current state. i knew it was really only a matter of time before they broke the site enough that i wouldn’t come back.
