Too many of us irrationally think we need to lose weight. Too many people I care about. I’ve gained around 15kg from my lowest. The sick, unhappy, scared girl I was 2 years ago couldn’t handle an extra 100 grams of body ‘fat’. Fat. The fear that word holds in society is actually really sad. Losing weight used to be the one thing I thought I could do; but the irony of it is that losing weight was literally the only thing that stopped me from learning all the things I CAN do. 15 extra kilos doesn’t mean 15 more kilos of failure. It means 15 more kilos of experience, of self-acceptance and growth. Losing weight through starvation won’t leave you thin and beautiful; it will leave you bitter, selfish, stubborn and isolated. You know what tastes better than skinny feels? Having a life. Swimming along the beach; dancing all night with friends; walking around, lost in a big buzzing city. 15kgs, so what? We don’t admire each other for our ‘thinness’, we admire the foundations that build up character to the people we become. Thinking of skipping dinner? Fine, just remember that you’ll be losing more than just weight. #realtalk #haveaselfie 🍦
im a total mess.... but.... a glittery, light pink, soft mess
the president of nigeria is about to fuck boko haram up and cut his own salary in half and criminalized female genital mutilation
the president of guinea built/is building infrastructure and school and wells all over the country and is decreasing youth unemployment exponentially
the president of cote d’ivoire made school mandatory of children ages 6-16 and banned plastic bags while also building ultra modern trasportation infrastructure
the future is for real in africa
I think this should have a hell of a lot more notes on it than it does. This is what good news looks like folk, and the continent of Africa surely deserves a shed load of it.
Today (April 7th) is Remembrance Day for the Rwandan genocide. While Rwanda still faces challenges, their recovery has been incredible. They now have the highest percentage of women in parliament around the world (one of only two countries to have over 50% women), their gross national income has risen each year, and life expectancy has risen from 48 in 1990 to 65 in 2013.
