Growth Cycle of Cannabis Plants
Cannabis plant experiences a series of stages as they grow and gets matured. If you are engaged in cannabis production, then it is essential to know the changes that a plant goes through during the life cycle. The overall health of the plant relies on different stages of growth of the plant. You need to understand that each stage needs different care. The different stages require different amounts of nutrients, light, and water.
Following are the stages of the cannabis plant from seed to harvest:
The primary stage or the first stage of life for a plant begins with the seed. At this point, your cannabis plant is waiting to grow into a full plant. For observing the quality of seed, you can check its color and texture. An undeveloped seed will not germinate and will be different in color like green or white and will also be squishy. On the other hand, a good seed should be dry and hard and will be light to dark brown in color. This stage of germination may take 5-10 days.
Once you observe that the seed has popped, you can place where it can grow. The taproot will drive down while the stem of the plant will grow in the upward direction. As you the roots get developed, you will observe the fan leaves grow and this is the point at which you can consider your plant as a seedling.
On becoming a seedling, you will notice that your plant is developing traditional cannabis leaves. Cannabis plants are considered as seedlings until unless they develop leaves with a full number of blades on new fan leaves. The color of healthy seedlings should be of vibrant green color. For best results, make sure that you never overwater your plants in the seedling stage as the roots of plants are very small and don’t need much water for thriving purpose. Also, you need to know that the plant is much more vulnerable to mold and disease. You need to monitor the amount of moisture and the environment in which it is kept.
At this stage, the growth of the plant takes off. At this point, you will need to transplant the plant into a larger pot and here the roots and the foliage will be developing rapidly. At this time, you can top or train your plants. You need to increase the watering as the plant develops. You need to know the right watering techniques. When it is young, the plant needs water close to its stalk. As you see it is growing, it’s roots will also grow outwards, so you need to start watering it away from the stalk so that the roots can stretch out and absorbs water more efficiently. You should always feed the vegetative plants with a higher level of nitrogen at this stage for good marijuana production.
This is the final stage of growth for a cannabis plant. Flowering occurs naturally when the plant receives light less than 12 hours of the day. In this stage, the resinous buds will develop. There are various changes that you can notice once your plants go from the vegetative stage to flowering stage:
● Feed plants with blooming nutrients
● You shouldn't prune your plants after three weeks into the flowering stage, as it is not good for the hormones of the plant.
● Trellis the plants so that the buds will be supported as they get developed.
When you see that the buds are fully mature, you can harvest them.
