R O Y S M I T H.
he’s been smoking marijuana behind the building for awhile now , awaiting a client to arrive in search of other substances . when he catches sight of her , eyes her up & down , he pauses , blunt betwixt digits lowered , a raise of brows . ❛ YOU’RE NOT SHAWN , ARE YOU ? ❜ he hopes not , he’d had a conflicting image in mind .
‘ DEFINITELY NOT. & YOU’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE BACK HERE, ARE YOU? ’ she’d seen him sneak through the alleyway behind her apartment building when walking back from class, and couldn’t stop herself from following. some say curiosity killed the cat, but what is a reporter without the itch for knowledge? who knows, this could end up being a good story.

but all I know is nothing happens if you just give in! it can’t be any worse than how it’s been! and it just so happens that we just might win! so whatever happens, let’s begin!
famous first lines of poetry // bold the ones that apply to your muse.
TAGGED BY @proneanger TAGGING @superficialle @charismatiiic @ncright @pcssibilities + anyone.
i saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked // tyger tyger, burning bright // i have done it again. // do not go gentle into that good night. // the sea is calm to-night. // let us go then, you and i, // april is the cruelest month, // pretty women wonder where my secret lies. // there is a place where the sidewalk ends // i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart) // two roads diverged in a yellow wood, // whose woods these are i think i know // let us twain walk aside from the rest // once upon a midnight dreary, while i pondered, weak and weary, // i taught myself to live simply and wisely // it so happens i am sick of being a (wo)man // i wandered lonely as a cloud // does it dry up like a raisin in the sun ? // o my luve is like a red, red rose // o captain! my captain! our fearful trip is done; // out of the night that covers me, // it was many and many a year ago, // you may write me down in history // do not stand at my grave and weep // some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice. // hope is the thing with feathers // the wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees, // no man is an island, // remember me when i am gone away, // i met a traveller from an antique land // ‘twas brillig, and the slithy toves // this is thy hour o soul, // when we wear the mask that grins and lies, // death be not proud, // and death shall have no dominion. // laugh, and the world laughs with you; // the art of losing isn’t hard to master; // to see a world in a grain of sand // is there anybody there? said the traveller // nobody heard him, the dead man, // that crazed girl improving her music. // come to me in the silence of the night; // where the mind is without fear and the head is held high // when you are old and grey and full of sleep, // in flanders’ fields the poppies blow // i thought of you and how you love this beauty // life, believe, is not a dream // it may be misery not to sing at all, // if starry space no limit knows // come live with me and be my love, // had we but world enough and time, // my heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains my sense // bright star, would i were steadfast as thou art– // thou still unravish’d bride of quietness // how do i love thee? let me count the ways. // heaven is what i cannot reach ! // my dear, my dear, i know // in visions of the dark night // shall i compare thee to a summers day? // break, break, break // she walks in beauty, // i had a dream, which was not all a dream. // he clasps the crag with crooked hands.
THE NOTEBOOK AND PEN ARE LONG FORGOTTEN, resting at the bottom of her heavy shoulderbag. every meeting, up ‘till now, she’s been so immersed in getting all the details down in ink for her paper, that she hasn’t really taken the time to get to know the people she’s been writing about. a tool, an easy way to a good grade was all they really were to katherine - until tonight. now she sees them for what they really are ; a gang of boys, students, just like her.
the atmosphere in the café is more relaxed now, much of the crowd having left for the night. she takes a sip of her beer, a rare occurence, but it is friday night and she’s not a fan of the coffee the café has to offer. ‘ ——— you guys seem really close. have you known each other for long? ’

‘ NEW YORK’S A HUSTLE AND BUSTLE, especially this time of year. been living here my whole life, so i’m used to it, but i know it can get a little overwhelming at times — are you sure you’re alright? ’ she should be back home, working on an article for the paper, but making sure the woman she just ran into ( literally ) is alright has become top priority. ‘ hey, let me buy you a warm drink. i know just the place. ’

so, he’s a flirt, a complete egomaniac. (aka jack kelly being the most awkward grey-ro ever)
PEN AND NOTEBOOK IN HAND, katherine spends the majority of the night noting down everything that happens - every chant, every reaction from the energetic audience cramped inside the café, anything that will make her article not good, but great.
‘ you’ve got a way with words, mister ..... ’ and here is where she awaits the reveal of his name, even though she has heard it chanted on campus before —— better get it confirmed from the source himself than from his followers. ( friends? colleagues? she’s not entirely sure what the group of boys are, but she intends to find out, somehow. )

HEIRESS. hit that ♡ for a starter!
‘ EXCUSE ME, BUT ... you look like you know your way around. ’ she’s been in town for all but two hours, and she’s already looking to fix something. nothing revolutionary, this time around - it’s only her hotel room. too boring for her taste, too plain ... not at all a source of inspiration or motivation for the article she was sent here to write.
middle - aged men and women, dead, scattered around town. the police say they’re working on it, but anyone with a working set of eyes can tell they know about as much about the case as her father does about her personal life ( that means ; they know nothing. no leads, no suspects. nothing! ). the fact that the sun sent her to cover it for the paper suprised katherine herself as much as it did everyone else. up ‘till now, she’d only covered flower shows and plays - stuck in the social pages of the paper. this is her big break, and sure, maybe she felt she deserved a small gift, even if it does come out of her own wallet.
‘ ———— where’s the nearest flower shop? ’

“–what’s that scowl for? c’mon, it was just a JOKE, kath! and a funny one at that.”
( perhaps it’s the fact that the joke was at her father’s expense is what has ticked her off, or maybe just the crude language he’d paired with it doesn’t sit well with her, but regardless jack is oblivious to whatever wrongdoing he’d just committed. )
SHE’S GROWN ACCUSTOMED TO his quips about her father as this point, even having learnt how to dodge them like a bullet. sure, it saddens her, a little, that jack and her father will never truly get along ——— but as long as she’s got them both, she’s content. still, she wouldn’t hate it if her boyfriend stopped poking fun at her father all the time … ‘ ——— i think our definitions of funny are different, jack. ’
Give those kids and me the brand new century, and watch what happens!
EXTRA! EXTRA! the newsies storm the barricades as intrepid girl reporter gets her break. just as david faces woe, when things were kind of touch and go. i have to stand behind the choices that i make ; every dubious decision, every edit and revision —————— !
