I can’t believe that I fell for a scam. I was looking through my inbox and I saw an email from my bank saying that I was overdrawn and that I had to provide my login details to fix this. This didn’t make sense to me because I had a healthy balance in my bank account, and I was not expecting a major withdrawal from my account that would put me in that situation. But, feeling fearful, what if it was true? I don’t want a bad reputation with the bank. Let me race to the bank branch and talk to the manager to make sure that I can cover this situation…although, I am not sure what the situation is that I am trying to cover. So, I hopped in my car, and, just as I was starting to back out, my intuition hit me, sending a flurry of questions: - Why would a bank ever contact me through email about being overdrawn? - Knowing my banking habits, I would never get to that situation, so how and why would this impossible situation become possible? - Wait a minute…haven’t I read about not responding to these types of emails on many occasions? So, I stopped the car, thanked my intuition for coming to my rescue, and deleted the email from my inbox. So, why did I almost fall for this scam? The answer is simple. What scammers do very well is to put you in a high state of emotion which blocks your ability to depend on your intuition, and when this happens, you really hamper your ability to think clearly. You may think that these silly tactics only happen to the elderly or naive, but it happens to people like you and me everyday, and when it does, it is embarrassing to share with others. If you trusted your intuition, you would never get duped by these scammers. So, when you get that call from someone telling you that you have a virus on your computer which will cost you $250 to get rid of, you owe taxes and you need to send a bank draft NOW, or that you have been awarded an inheritance in the millions from some distant relative in Nigeria and need to pay a transfer fee, your intuition will immediately smell something funny. Trusting your intuition will make sure that your money is where it should be…in your pocket.
