(See, the negotiating-positions would have been really different if it had been Israel's actions alone causing Iran to blockade the Strait! If you'd gotten into a Strait-blockaded position that way, and I'm not sure Iran even would have done that with only unilateral-Israeli provocations, then it would be much easier to unwind than this!)
Well yes, and that's great for Iran, because the longer this drags out the stronger their negotiating position gets. So demanding that Israel stop shooting is just pure upside for them: either they get their demands met and they end up even better off strategically, or they don't get their demands met, the Strait stays closed, Trump gets more desperate, and it drives a wedge between the U.S. and Israel, which is also great for Iran. There's no reason for them not to make maximalist demands here.
The lesson here, as a bunch of people have already said, is "don't start a war if a third-party with opposing interests to yours can blow up a ceasefire at any time", which is trivial stuff, but so was all the other advice they ignored. I would say Iran is playing 9D chess here, but honestly they're just playing normal chess while their opponent shits their diaper and sticks the pieces up their nose.
