Stranger than Paradise (1984, Jim Jarmusch)
Screenplay: Jim Jarmusch
Director of Photography: Tom DiCillo
“In a way, everything is so late for this planet that to me the simplest things seem to be the most important ones, like a conversation, or going out for walk with somebody, or the way a certain cloud drifts by or the light falling on the leaves of a tree, or smoking a cigarette with somebody. Those things are much more valuable to me than all this gibberish. In a way it’s cynical. I wouldn’t say i’m a nihilist, but to me this planet is really destroyed, and it’s very sad, but still there are some small, beautiful things which may perhaps not be around a hundred years from now.”

Love is the only thing that can save this poor creature, and I am going to convince him that he is loved even at the cost of my own life. No matter what you hear in there, no matter how cruelly I beg you, no matter how terribly I may scream, do not open this door or you will undo everything I have worked for. Do you understand? Do not open this door. Let me out. Let me out of here. Get me the hell out of here. What’s the matter with you people? I was joking! Don’t you know a joke when you hear one? HA-HA-HA-HA. Jesus Christ, get me out of here! Open this goddamn door or I’ll kick your rotten heads in! Mommy! Young Frankenstein (1974) dir. Mel Brooks

Al White, Illustrations for 12th Isle Album Covers
http://socks-studio.com/2021/07/11/al-white-illustrations-for-12th-isle-album-covers/
12th Isle is a music label founded in 2016 by a collective from Glasgow that has released excellent ambient electronic albums in the last few years, such as XYR’s Eldorado or Christos Chondropoulos’s Athenian Primitivism, the album that let us know them.
Al White is the graphic designer and illustrator behind 12th Isle’s visual identity and the general artwork of every release, shows posters and merchandising. His style for the albums covers selected below is easily recognizable, as it consists of two-tone depictions of alien territories, other world’s cartographies, sci-fi movies storyboards and organic shapes. His work may look to us as an Artificial Intelligence trying to produce pseudo-realistic visual reports of an extra-terrestrial landscape, if the data came from Jeff VanderMeer’s Annihilation, Ettore Sottsass Jr’ The Planet as a Festival, Japan robot anime, and Codex Seraphinianus.
