◣☼◢—-"Friends?" He blinked, trying to think of anyone he could really call a friend. Mostly, during his regular trips to the hospital and the occasional extended stay, he would talk to the other kids in a ward. They were nice, a bit off of course from the constant treatment. Furrowing his brows Alex drooped his head down. "My parents don’t really let me socialize that much. Only this past year have I been able to get around more often, cause I got a new nurse. He’s pretty weird but I like him"
"He’s the closest thing I got to a friend, but he’s more like an older brother than anything. I spend time with other patients at the hospital who have the same thing I did but….I never usually get to know them so well before they leave and 'leave'"
That would be a shame if the informant could bring himself to care, but alas, he was an asshole as usual.
He cared so little, that he actually began to laugh. He laughed uncontrollably for at least a minute, before the fit subsided. "Oh god! That's so unfortunate. Do you know why you don't have any friends? Because you're hideous. Let me tell you about humans. No matter how attractive your personality is, no one is going to give you a chance if they're scared of having to pity you. That nurse of yours is just doing his job, kid." By now, he was just telling the poor kid things he probably already knew. The informant's eyes grew dark with mischief. "I hope you're used to it."

◣☼◢—-Unfazed by being pushed aside the brunette’s complacent yet dreary eyes turned upwards spotting the green lights that shined through the leaved like a kaleidoscope dancing around on them. Scrunching his face up, his expression became contorted with disbelief and slight agitation. "Why?" He asked licking his lips, turning his head towards the informant. "I don’t have ‘hope’ I’ve got all that I hope for. I’m alive when I should be dead. That’s enough isn’t it? Given a second chance kinda, even though I have no arms and legs. I was gonna die an itty bitty baby ya know. I didn’t have much life under my belt then"
"I mean I could drone on about how it wasn’t fair and whatever. But what good would that do me? Absolutely nothin’ that’s what!" Alex finished finally, huffing at the end. Nobody’s asked him that question, or at least in that manner. Almost begrudgingly so. It is disconcerting but oh well. Different people acted in different ways. Izaya was just blunt and mean.
"Don't get your panties in a bunch, kid." He still didn't really get it. He didn't know how someone could live in such a cruel world with any sort of disability. It baffled the informant. Either way, he was kind of pissed off now. It was a simple question, and a nice talk they were having. He learned by questioning and his cold heart said people should be just as calm about it. The informant supposed it was just another part of human error.
"Fine, fine. I see where you're coming from. Tell me, do you have many friends? Do people visit you often?" He doubted it. This kid had an attitude.
Rule Breaker
It was around 8:45 at night and Mikan had to get herself to her hotel room before 9:00. She had plenty of time, considering she was now standing in front of the rather large, bright hotel. Even so, why the time limit? No actual reason, other than the fact that this studious female tried to give herself a schedule to follow. Why was that? You could say it just helps her feel more organized to a certain extent. It wouldn’t kill her if she didn’t follow it, but she’d prefer to. Well, anyway, the student made her way to the front desk, signing in and picking up her room key.
However, this night wasn’t about to go just as she had planned for it to.
When Tsumiki unlocked the door, she saw a mysterious male in her assigned hotel room. She doesn’t remember asking to share a room with anyone, so what was this? She didn’t want to startle the other in any such way, so she spoke very quietly, peeking into the small amount of space that she had once she started opening the door.
"Uhm, e-excuse me, b-but.. are you currently staying in this r-room, mister…? I was t-told that th… This would be my hotel room for t-tonight, s-so…"
The male was in town for classified business and had taken extra precaution to make sure everything went smoothly. Unfortunately, he overlooked the fact that someone with such a simple job like booking hotel rooms would have such difficulty getting it right. He would keep this in mind for a little lesson later on.
When the door creaked, the man whipped around. Currently looking out the window was the informant, half dressed and with his guard down.
"No, I'm sure this is my room. Although, clearly the key worked for you, so it's the hotel's fault. I'll call the desk. You can come in."
The informant called the desk, speaking quickly and calmly to the worker on the other end. After a few minutes, he turned to the girl.
"They don't have extra rooms, and there aren't any other hotels in the immediate area. I'll be leaving tomorrow but I can't leave earlier than that. Either you have to share with me, or go."
Now, Izaya wasn't all that intimidating without a shirt. It was easy to see how scrawny he is, and even with toned muscles, he was very small for a man. The informant, much aware of this fact, usually used it to his advantage, but in this moment, it would have been nice to look a little more intimidating.
◣☼◢—-The brunette shrugged not really understanding why the man would want to sit tight with him. But you know, whatever Izaya wanted than fine, it was nice to have company other than his parents and hoards of doctors. Squirming a bit, Alex fell over onto the raven’s lap, cheek squishing against the other’s leg. The tree’s above them cast shadows down onto them. Like a kaleidoscope. His eyes began wavering eventually growing heavy. “The sky is nice, all those colors. I never really go to see much of it until about 2 years ago. I was barely allowed out of the house. So most of what I saw was from the window, and the windows were dirty. And other times the blinds were down because according to some of my medication, i’m not allowed to be in direct sunlight. And that’s why I sit in the shade because I want to see the world around meand I also don’t want to die” Alex murmured near the end shutting his eyes and sighing "I wanna live my life but I also have to take precautions"
Izaya flinched at the contact. He didn't like people touching him, so when the other finished speaking, the informant sat him back up. "Is there a reason you're so determined to live. It seems like it wouldn't be very fun with all you're inconvenienced with. What do you live for? What gives you hope in such a fucked up place? Are you in love?" By this point, the informant was just spitting out all the questions that came to mind. A human emotion such as hope was baffling to him. Caution was not in his nature. The human beside him was intriguing.
For one of the few times in his life, Izaya was confused.
You always learn from observing. You have to pick things up nonverbally because people will never tell you what you’re supposed to know. You have to get it for yourself: whatever it is that you need in order to survive. You become strong by doing the things you need to be strong for. This is the way genuine learning takes place.

Now, Nicolas wasn’t stupid. He was nowhere near it. He knew something near a scam when it bit him under the nose. The black haired male scratched his head, watching him carefully, huffing just slightly.
Well, I'm going to have to consult my partner. And my other companion. I cannot just simply make this "trust" between someone I hardly know. You just showed up here. And, finally, we don't take sides. Our business is not built around that. We just take jobs.
"Alright, alright."
Hands up, as if he had been caught by the cops, Izaya shrugged and took a step back. Clearly this would take some work, and that annoyed the informant. He was impatient, childlike, and working hard at things was not something he was used to.
"I won't push you. The one thing that would make me very happy to leave with, though, would be a last name. Care to share?"
This explained a lot, actually. Nicolas nodded his head sightly, eyes fitting away from the man. He wasn’t sure he liked this. He didn’t need a snooping man like Izaya around his company. Their whole operation was successful, but plenty under the covers. He also didn’t like the idea of him searching for answers that they kept covered up.
I see.
Nic should probably play nice and introduce himself as well. His head nodded toward him, not willing to give up and a.) reveal his short stature and b.) the warmth of this seat in particular. Were last names important? (They weren’t now.)
Nicolas. Nice to meet you as well.
Immediately Izaya perked up, becoming more interested in the man before him. He seemed like quite an interesting person, as well as very useful. His caution towards the informant peaked an interest within him.
"Listen carefully Nicolas. We need to have a mutual understanding about something. Your business would compliment mine very well, and I have good intentions to create a kind of... trust, with you." He chose his words carefully, making sure to seem trustworthy. After all, the quickest way to a secret is trust.
This guy looked like a freeloader. A soft huff left his lips, fingers drumming slightly against the panel of wood that supported his many things. He currently had a notebook infront of him, and was scribbling down things. (Or had been. Then came this guy.)
Bodygaurding, favors, certain housework. Beriya is a very widespread business.
He leveled with him, noting about his possible age, trying to place the correct numbers. He seemed older than he looked, but he couldn’t be sure, especially after he’d met Doug.
What faction are you a part of? I haven't seen your representation here before.
Bodyguarding? Favours? To Izaya, things like this could come in handy often. It's a wonder he didn't know about them before. "I'm an info broker. I represent myself, pay myself, and set my own hours." Well, when he puts it that way he kind of sound like a loser. Reputation happened to be a large part of his job, so he set that straight quickly.
"To be frank, I work off the record. It's my business to know everything that's going on, when it's going on. My name is Izaya Orihara. It's a pleasure to meet you."
At least he understood. Nicolas read his lips with ease, responded with a few hand sweeps.
I work here.
Nicolas looked rather disinterested in the idea of whatever Izaya’s Business Trip happened to involve. A quiet yawn left him, a hand scratching the back of is head, finding a scab there. Ugh
Are you supposed to be here?
You never know when someone ordered the Archangelo treatment.
He didn't actually have a destination. The informant was re-gathering information on the area when he stumbled across this place. "I don't know. Am I? What noble product or service can you provide me with?"
Izaya was a bit confused, actually. What kind of business has a supposedly mute person deal with customers?

Sigh. Business was slow. Until now, at least. Nicolas raised his head, hair mussed up in about three different directions. He had been dozing, again. "Mh-?" Freeing up his hands, Nic signed.
Can I help you?
Unfortunately, sign was not a language Izaya was familiar with. He had never gotten a client that doesn't speak, as most people discovered him under rushed whispers and tense confrontations.
"Yes actually. I'm.. on a business trip. What exactly do you do here?" The informant spoke normally, assuming the man would know that not everyone knows sign language.
