King and Lionheart - Ave/Garry
garretpls:
Garret’s eyes flicked from his video game to the phone he held in his lap. “Come on, come on, come on, come on..” He mumbled under his breath as the controller started to feel the rapid taps of his thumb on the square button. “no, no, no, n- Shit!” He threw the controller on his bed and flicked his whole body backwards as the screen showed his score on the new Crash Bandicoot game. His sigh emanated through the now quiet room and he brought his phone up to face. Clicking the home button the screen lit up to show the time. “Nearly four.” He mumbled to himself and raised his body up with his elbows. Rolling off the side of his bed, Garry ran his fingers through his hair and made his way slowly over to his draws. Humming to himself, he opened the draws and fumbled around before managing to find the board shorts he had hidden. Despite the rain he knew it was gonna be a good day; Avery was gonna be there and that was all he needed. Hearing a knock at the door, he chucked his stuff into a bag and opened the door pulling Avery into a wet hug. His face scrunched up as he let her go and looked down at his shirt.
His eyes fell on how soaked she was and he shook his head. “I get your little fashion pact you’ve made with yourself but it’s pouring down out there, Ave..” He chuckled. “Take it off and I’ll get you a more.. Waterproof jacket.” His eyes rolled as he went to his cupboard and fished around for a bit. “Do you wanna get warm by the heater before we go so you don’t die or are you fine?” He raised an eyebrow as he chucked the jacket at her tiny body. Shoving his shoes on his feet, he looked around and grabbed his keys. His eyes met hers and he pulled a face as he headed over to the bed. “Ready when you are,” he chimed as he pushed the phone into his back pocket and looked over at her. His eyes looked her over and a small smile appeared on his face. His jacket was twice the size of her and although he had seen this sight before, it never got old.
As Garry opened the door, Avery grinned. She flicked back into being visible and was scooped into his arms for a spine-crushing bear hug. She grinned again as she was pulled against him and when he let go she snorted, following his eyes to her own drenched body. “Yeah, I know, it’s a little wet outside.” She stripped her wet jacket off, pulled the arms out straight and laid it out to dry over the back of a chair. It was no big deal if she left things over at Garry’s place - they saw each other every day so it wasn’t like she’d be parted from her jacket for long. She turned around just as the jacket hit her square on - it was blue and very, very big. She smiled, putting her arms through the holes and zipping it all the way up. It came down to near her knees and she had to try to ignore how good and like Garret it smelled. Avery flicked her eyes over to the heater. “Nah, you know me. I’ll survive.” She walked over to it, savoring the few seconds of heat she had, before flicking the switch and turning back to him. “Well, I’m ready. Have you got everything? Speedos and goggles all packed up and ready for a big and incredibly wet day?” She grinned at him again and pulled her sleeves up so she could use her hands to open the door.
Immediately, the immense sound of so much water crashing down hit her like a ton of bricks. Luckily, a small overhang in front of Garry’s door made it possible for her to stay out of it, even for just a few seconds more. Avery loved the rain, and more than she loved the rain she loved playing in it with Garret, but she figured her day was gonna be full of water enough that she could spare a few seconds. She pulled her hood up, hitched her pack higher on her shoulders and turned to Garret, the top half of her face hidden beneath his jacket, but her beaming smile clearly visible. “You ready, punk?” she asked, laughing and leaning into his arm. As she leaned in the opposite direction she kicked water through a puddle at him and splashed his ankles. Avery then leaned back in to bump shoulders with him, walking across the courtyard in the direction of town.
