Our old scan was a measure brighter (much of the internet loves that) and lighting changes absolutely everything about Rothko’s art. This one, however, looks more like paint and look-the bottom section is no longer straight yellow. Despite popular opinion, Rothko didn’t paint solid colors in a conventional sense.
We had this a few months back but it’s worth another look. I think it’s great to see less candy and more conflict in this painting, so I am happy to have it.
