Tips for Trading on Nookazon
So Iāve been thinking about this animal crossing trading etiquette post byĀ @snickiiee lately, itās very well done and I highly recommend it especially for AC players that are new to trading!! Iāve also been using nookazon a lot the past few weeks, and while many things listed in that post apply to nookazon well, I thought Iād make my own post specifically with some nookazon trading etiquette and tips!!! So without further ado:
Communication is key. This is a theme throughout this whole list, but when youāve accepted an offer, let people know where youāre at in the process. Let them know if youāre grabbing the item and opening your gate, if youāre handling a trade or two first, if thereās been some other delay. Theyāll appreciate it!
Try to be patient. Shit happens! and people arenāt machines. Even if they have their status set to online, they might not respond right away. Give them more than just five minutes to get back to you. (and fyi, you might be missing out on some fantastic trades because you couldnāt wait out someones pee break)
Be polite, not pushy. If youāre in a hurry or feel out of the loop, feel free to check up on things! but be reasonable and be kind.Ā
Communicate trading issues. Let someone know if they gave you the wrong item or forgot something and give them a chance to correct it before leaving a bad review. Again, people arenāt machines. Mistakes happen!
Please let everyone know if youāre conducting multiple trades at a time. A lot of people wonāt mind it, but it is frustrating when you have other trades to tend to and youāre having to sit through multiple fly-ins you didnāt expect. Also some people are trying to get a quick trade in before they go to work/school or go to sleep, they should know if it might not be one.
Utilize the status feature.Ā Itās really helpful to know if someoneās busy when you submit an offer, and it can result in more patience on the buyerās end if youāre wrapped up in trades or afk.Ā And if you avoid going offline so your listings will still show up, it might be a good idea to create some sort of status in your description you update regularly.Ā
Utilize theĀ āOn my wayā feature, and use it well! I find the best time for this is right before you start talking to orville about flying. Itāll give the person youāre trading with enough time to get to their airport and set up but itās not a bad wait at all in the case theyāre ready to go. Donāt just use it when youāre already flying in, unless their switch is in another room, they know.Ā
Respond to offers as much as possible, including the ones you donāt accept. Nookazon has a handy feature that lets you deny or cancel offers and explain why. You should definitely use it when youāve experienced some sort of complication, or when youāve found a better deal or have no need for an item anymore, but let people know when an offer is too low, or when youāre accepting a better offer from someone else. Responding can help them figure out the worth of things, because...
Not everyone is trying to lowball you when they give you a ālowā offer. If theyāve never traded before or have done just a bunch of lowkey chill trades theyāre probably going by in-game prices, and in some cases what they offer is all they have. Or their offer is just genuinely fair to them. Help them along, try negotiating, whatever, just donāt leave people hanging?
More of a general kindness thing but if someone gives you a super generous offer, weāre talking like multiple wishlist and rare items for like, 20 NMTs or your tub, check their wishlist. See if thereās anything you can throw their way to let them know how much you appreciate it. If thereās no items you can help them with NMTs, Star fragments (Normal and large), gold nuggets, and pearls which are often needed or at very least useful for other trades. Bells are also still a great option too!! Even if theyāre swimming in em, leaving someone a tip of any sort is a sign of appreciation they willĀ appreciate.Ā Ā
Organization goes a long way. Keep the items you have up for trade in a place you wonāt forget, where theyāre easily accessible. If you trade with NMTs, always keep some on hand so you donāt have to waste time redeeming them. If you do materials required crafting, include a crafting table and waiting area in or nearby your entrance. If you have other things in your inventory, separate trade items from the rest and keep them together in your pockets so dropping them is easier & quicker. You might thinkĀ āBut its just a gameā and yeah!! im not telling you to treat your nookazon like a Serious Proper Business. But doing these things is a way you can be respectful and kind to your fellow players and their time, and keeping organized will make trading a lot more fun for you too!!
Finally: Leave reviews, regardless of whether you were the buyer or seller, and try to be fair!Ā Especially if someone is new to the site and has none or very few! Let people know they can be trusted on their islands (or not!), indicate if they were polite, if they were communicative, quick to respond, etc etc. It makes trading easier and safer for all of us. :)
Long post, I know, but I also know nookazon seems scary or complicated to some people and I want to help :-) Itās such a useful website, and the more people know about it and how to use it/conduct trades over it, the better things will get!!
