on 22/07/17, rashan charles became the second black man to have died at the hands of police in london in the space of a month, following the death of edson da costa on 21/06/17. charles was only 20 years old, and has been described by friends and neighbours as a gentle and caring person, and a good father to his baby daughter. the media are focusing too little on the aggressive actions of the police, and too much on the “objects charles allegedly swallowed” – trying to both keep him cast as a drug-dealer and blame him entirely for his death, in order to grossly try to justify his mistreatment and murder.

Idk, I’m torn about this. Like ISIS are obvs scum. But are the artifacts really less safe in the hands of an American business… or a terrorist organization responsible for bombing world heritage sites?? I got one am glad hobby lobby bought the artifacts lol. Who freaking cares.

Not to blow your mind, but there are groups of people in this world besides Hobby Lobby and ISIS. They could have gone to UNESCO, or museums, or any number of NGOs, or if you’re feeling especially radical, the Iraqi people themselves. This could have been accomplished without, you know, giving money to ISIS. Plus if the Elgin Marbles taught us anything, it’s that taking artifacts to the West for safekeeping tends to be a much more long term commitment than anyone thought.
