freefall basically has 3 modes: comedic character interactions, in depth sci fi, and ethics+politics shit, it switches fairly evenly between them
its a very funny comic and the visual style is very appealing, and the character chemistry is very good i think the comedy stuff is great. the sci fi is very robust and the author is obviously a sci fi nerd, theres input from a community of hard sci fi heads so its very engaging to a sci fi fan like myself. & the politics is very prescient and its fun to read the developments of their society. theres no mode freefall goes into that i think is weak or bores me its rly good
i liked hoziers latest album unreal unearth a lot when it came out, but to be honest the more i listened to it the less impressed i was with it. it has a lot of great songs i like but i kinda felt like it ended up being weaker as a whole than wasteland baby
it kind of clicked when ace by madison cunningham came out. these two albums have these things in common
more grandiose instrumentation than their previous music
dramatic/cinematic presentation
the album has a throughline
but i think what ace showed me is that the dramatic grandiose presentation of the entire album as a whole has to be in service of, like, the songs sounding good. cause ended up feeling like unreal unearth being a "9 circles" thing that moves from front to end with a flow between songs was actually a detriment to its actual sound being interesting to me. the cinematic movie score sound is kind of more boring to me than his usual sound but madison cunningham goes in that "chamber" direction thats extremely compelling... & thus the concept of the album, in lyrical and instrumentation and sound as a whole, is strengthened
maybe another ingredient is hoziers shit is kind of just getting poppier which is just not my taste
i kept saying ace was gonna be an album i had on loop and obviously its really fucking good and i said igor was gonna be an on loop album and everyone knows that album is peak. but i dont rly know why neither of those albums Got me the way 3d country by geese has. this is an on loop album
ive been a homestuck fan for 10 years
i hate katy perrys music conceptually bc, among other things, it feels like shes an adult selling the idealized picture of being young to young people. (teenage dream, the one that got away ("summer after high school when we first met/wed make out in your mustang to radiohead")(🤮)). and i hate ed sheerans music too bc it feels like hes selling the idealized picture of being british to americans. the difference is ed sheeran is actually british
its the fate of all gamer comics to go on way too long and start trying to do like self serious dramatic storylines and shit. which i THINK is what powerup comics ended up trying to parody, after it got done parodying "gamer webcomic" and "gamer webcomic that has creator drama and inserts it into the comic." in practice though, i feel like it ended up just genuinely overstaying its welcome? even though that's the bit, it does just stop being funny
before i get too deep into my re* read of a Different comic id like to make it known that i just read Mr Boop and it was insane in a really very good way. my closest frame of reference for the Era of comics its parodying is Tails Gets Trolled. and my closest frame of reference for the Type of comics its parodying is
is this
in a lot of ways its like scoob and shag in that the characters are sort of just Representative of Pop Culture Mascots instead of like. being The Guy From The Thing. but its less sincere i think, and more on purpose esoteric. it sprawls in a far different way
it's also kind of uniquely modern internet, and maybe even Specifically modern Twitter, becuase both in world and in real the "mr boop guy" could actually like. be described as "the mr boop guy." he had virality that was real, and was Plot Relevant in an extremely overblown way, and was poked fun at. like if justin mcelroy and tim robinson werent in the finale video and if you hadnt seen a mr boop page one time back when you used twitter a year and a half ago then you mightve thought it was obscure and shit and the in universe virality was just wishful thinking or some other kind of neurosis like the rest of the last part. idk how to phrase this really i think you get what i mean though
i liked it. it was insane and conceptually ambitious and the homestuck part jumpscared me so hard
also. if you read mr boop. you should read "mr group" afterwards. it's a . TANGENTIALLY related comic, which is basically predicated on the aforementioned virality. its a far more io branded type of insane, and it's funny in a less jaw dropping absurd way and in more of a confused and intrigued way. i don't know if it's planned to continue or anything? if it isn't then the ending is ridiculously funny to me
i also read crimehot. im not posting about crimehot here. its solid though even if youre not into it. its really funny to have read mr boop and to read the beginning of crimehot and just be going to yourself "yeah this was written by the mr boop guy"
the era of twitter mr boop couldnt have existed without is over. or at least ending. as twitter gets a worse place and more public figures and gimmick accounts die off of it, there exists less of public figures seeing gimmick accounts. at least on twitter.
i think as long as social media exists, the TYPE of popular mr boop became will exist. but nothing will have the same tone without twitter website dot com. although can anything at all have the same tone as mr boop? probably not.
maybe ill post about this more but i dont really like website metaposting (see here lol) so i probably wont
i read "snotgirl" comic. i liked it a lot and im gonna try2 keep up with it as closely as i can. and ive got WORDS to say!
i feel like its rly interesting to me that the biggest comparison in my mind reading it was american psycho. i feel like theres Tumblr Posts comparing the type of guy that movie was about with tiktok influencer girls but i feel like this came across that connection rly organically. lottie snotgirl literally pulls in the first three pages "that version of me is not real. she doesnt exist."
and its as hard 2 follow which RLY drew me in. many many scenes that are like "ok how literal is this and is it actually happening and did any of it matter" esp juxtaposed to how like flippant and jarring they are about death (which is thematic!) & irly just couldnt help but think of the fake ass bateman who just wants to look good in front of his peers + whose life is strange and ambiguous
basically the only thing i have against it rn is just. i wish it was doing more weird shit post hiatus. a lot of questions have been answered (not all) and so its being a lot more straightforward and i hope they dip back into showing some wild shit & confusing you
this is literally what snotgirl is about
literally any upper middle class tiktok self-identified ‘that girl’ in a pastel workout set with a thirteen step skincare routine and a green juice is a million times closer to being patrick bateman irl than any self-identified sigma film bro
id never actually known any lana del ray songs so whenever i saw those #femcel #coquette #lana del ray #female manipulator posts i always just sort of went like oh lana del ray must be some sort of like tortured poetic musician of some sort but i only learned like a few weeks ago that summertime sadness is by lana del ray. its just mid sad pop.
yes. you are so smart for liking this. yes. but anyway upon consideration i realized i actually kind of dont know what being a "femcel" actually means, other than, like, being transphobic, and posting a picture of joan of arc. is it actually the same thing as being a male incel but the opposite way? or is it just like named after it and different? are the "neetcore" ones and the "female manipulator" ones 2 different things or is it under the same umbrella? are literally any of them happy
are literally any of them happy
Genuinely, no.
No matter the gender, incels or femcels are all about wallowing in their own misery, and deriving a twisted kind of self-satisfaction from their suffering.
"Obviously, there's nothing wrong with me, so there must be a worldwide conspiracy keeping a catch like me from the rewarding sex and relationships that I've been promised. I had better learn all these manipulation tactics to get what I'm owed by cleverness and force, since nobody is ever willingly going to put up with me."
Its a very sad, self-destructive worldview, and the only way out of it is to admit that they're doing it to themselves and choose to become better.

something about homestuck is that it gets a lot of undeserved bullshit online. and if you havent read it, its very hard to like separate out the undeserved bullshit from the deserved bullshit, because whenever anybody talks about homestuck to someone who hasnt read it, everyone in the room is shouting at and over each other. because the bullshit just makes people act stupid. this is why whenever anyone considers reading homestuck near me i just politely say "you should! its good!"
actually for real cannot stop listening to chromakopia. genuinely no miss album. every song is 10/10 level. i havent locked into an album this hard since, like, revealer
decemberists 5 songs doesnt count because when an ep is good, 1 listen takes shorter time so its easier to loop

i have if you havent already noticed been watching original dragon ball. DUDE THE YAMCHA VS TIEN FIGHT IN THE 2ND TOURNAMENT IS FUCKING INSANE I CANT BELIEVE THIS SHIT IS THIS GOOD. best fight in the show so far
id already been enjoying db (for the most part. [they have a tired and irritated look on their face]) but i didnt expect this arc to become as fucking good as it has been.
we r getting to like FAN FUCKING TASTIC fights and genuine emotional beats and shit, the tien arc is actually riveting. yamcha vs tien. chiaotzu vs krillin. roshi vs tien. krillin vs goku. every one of these is so fucking solid and theyre some of the best fights so far and its revealing to me why this show is so god damn influential. dragon ball seires is fucking goat
