there's so much to be said about how the version of himself buck wants to be is the buck who exists in eddie's pov. he is full of whimsy, a lovable idiot. but he is also someone who can be trusted, a person who will step up for the people he loves. a fixer who is steady and reliable. eddie sees buck exactly how he wants to be seen

meanwhile, eddie is buck's pov is like the most beautiful creature on earth. he is bathed in golden light, and he is more radiant than the sun. in buck's pov, eddie is the coolest and bravest and funniest and kindest and the best dad. buck sees every good thing about eddie even when eddie doesn't always feel that way about himself

marriage of convenience buddie you are so dear to me and now you're almost canonically within my reach... eddie is not a step dad, he's the dad who stepped up -> married his best friend, platonically, because buck's odds of adopting theo the orphan would be way higher if he's coupled up. hence, the marriage. teamwork! i don't know how the american legal system works. anyway, they all move in together. chris allows it to happen because his room at buck's house is bigger than his old one. theo is delighted (even though his parents are dead) because he thinks eddie is the best thing since strawberry sour patch kids. buck has to share his bed with his pretend husband who's actually his real husband and he dies a thousand deaths every night. eddie's the happiest he's ever been because he got to lock buck down without having to confess ANYTHING. life is beautiful

Actually I think Eddie temporarily fostering Theo because Buck isn't approved by the foster system for an emergency placement would be so fun. Eddie seeing this little kid who is seemingly a lot like Buck was as a kid and loving him, caring for him, being gentle and compassionate with him. Buck apologizing because he feels responsible for Theo 'being such a handful' (even though he isn't) and Eddie just shrugging and saying "Nah, he's easy to love, he just needs a little more attention and activity. I signed him up for soccer and he's having a blast." and Buck realizing that wait... Theo is easy to love. Which means Buck isn't hard to love.

Buck and Eddie and Chris and Theo becoming a little family unit without even realizing it. Buck getting approved to foster him because the case worker met him and saw him with Eddie and said "You and your partner have a great handle on him. He's really thriving here." and neither of them correct her. Buddie happening on accident because Buck finally admitted to himself that he was lovable and could be loved by Eddie because he watched Eddie love a younger version of him without any hesitation, without any anger, with just tenderness and care. Eddie realizing he's in love with Buck because he sees so many parts of Buck in Theo and finds them adorable instead of frustrating. Both of them realizing they haven't been doing any of this alone for a long time, basically since they met.

i think eddie knows but he doesnt Know. he knows that the way he feels about buck is the same way hes always felt about buck. he knows that buck is essentially his life partner he knows that he needs and relies on buck he knows that buck is wonderful and amazing he knows that when hes around buck he feels happy and secure but beyond that he doesnt question it because thats just buck. he doesnt feel like he needs more from buck than he already has. when he wants to talk to buck he calls him. when he wants to be around buck he finds him. when he needs something from buck he asks him. but he doesnt think "im in love with buck romanticstyle and i want to kiss and marry him" . because in his mind Subconsciously they are already married. and sometimes maybe hes laying in his bed alone he thinks man it would be nice if buck was here too. if buck could sleep next to me every night. but he doesnt think too deep into that bc hes aware that theyre a bit codependent so of course he misses buck even at night when hes trying to sleep. especially then. the same way as when you make the room cold on purpose so you can have a blanket on you. you could just make the room warm instead and have no blanket but its not about the warmth, its about the feeling of the blanket being there.
