My interactive piece was quite the hit, especially for two young boys eager to join in the fun. He drew Mr. Freckles. When asked why Mr. Freckles is so sad he said that his body just went away and he is now a bowling ball. I love kids with such imaginations :)

Opening Exhibition

As the last few days neared we all prepared for the opening night where us artists show our works in progress for all to see and admire (or internally judge). The exhibition was a huge success and I enjoyed being able to talk about my work with people who were intrigued. I discovered a lot about myself and it is a great feeling. I am excited to have been a part of this trip and feel well prepared for my artistic future.

The process for this piece holds more meaning than the finished product. Using my charcoal covered hand, I created movements based on the music I was listening to.

What started as a simple triangle soon turned into a hanging installation. When light hits it, shadows dance on the walls. After talking with Robert, he came up with a great idea of attaching a drawing utensil below the rock, attaching the caving headlight to my head, and doing a performance that will both show shadows and create artwork while dancing. I am looking forward to it.

These nails were from my earlier wall placement of the red seaweed and moss. After taking those items down, I used string to create a formation. I enjoyed working in this way that produced sharp lines with triangles.

This is my second iteration at berry tea on the body. I love the human back and played with both controlled marks and flowing marks that highlight the curves of the body.

While in Dublin I had the fortune of knowing a rather famous artist called Francis Bacon. Some of his work was being featured in the Hugh Lane Gallery as well as a video about Francis Bacon.

The Pollnagollum Cave Part 2 & 3

We experienced a rare weather condition in Ireland which allowed us to see the rushing water flow into the caves, but also caused us to cancel the trip for another day. A thunderstorm drenched us with its thick droplets and sleet. Lightning lit up the foggy sky and struck the earth. Thunderstorms in Ireland only happen every 2 years which made me happy to be a part of something so rare.

We re-scheduled to go caving and ended up squeezing our bodies into a small hole, practically slithering for what felt like 10 minutes. There were times where I had to really think so I would not freak out, but it was quite an experience. Once we all gathered in a rather large opening I felt slightly dizzy, but proud of myself. We ventured on and came to a drop where we had to use ropes to lower ourselves down. This was by far the hardest, most exciting caving trip.
