Shots of faces, children at play, beach go-ers, lovers, street vendors and other scenes of daily life as captured by Gabonese photographer Yannis Davy Guibinga in Libreville, Gabon.

Though now based in Canada, the young photographer was born in France and raised in Gabon before relocating for his studies. Having lived in various countries, Yannis’ work and creative process are both greatly informed by the cultures he’s been exposed to:

“ I think being African plays a part in everything I do… Whether I am aware of it or not, being African is a part of my identity. I think my creative process is greatly influenced by culture and experience…To me, your culture shapes the way you see and experience things and ultimately, it shapes what you do and how you do things.” - Yannis.

“I love long hot, steamy showers. That’s the place most of my ideas come from. A lot of the time, my ideas are very silly. I think of magic, being back in Haiti as a little girl, and creating random things either for work or fun. I love to create stories in the shower. A lot of them get lost in my mind once I step out of the bathroom into the real world. Or I get embarrassed about them and choose not to share them with others. But this one came to stay. 

I immediately grabbed my phone and texted my friends. I told them, I wanted to be a super hero, but I didn’t want to be alone and I needed their help. I had a whole story, and the more I thought about it, the clearer it came. They all immediately agreed to join me in my superhero adventure, so I texted a photographer friend of mine to confirm our underground shoot.

I don’t think Aaron of NYC_Underground understood the idea completely, but he likes me enough so he agreed. Cacsmy, Kristia, Nichole, and I showed up at Hudson Yards subway station that night feeling more powerful than ever. Clad in black with layers of leggings, body suits, fringe gloves, and harnesses, we were ready to take the night! I was in character…”

A swiss diver, captured these pictures of one of the six anacondas he saw on his 10 day trip to Mato Grosso in Brazil. This one was about 26-feet long.

“At the first moment it’s scary because you don’t know the animal and everybody says it’s dangerous. ‘But after a while you understand that nothing happens if you respect the snake. ‘I have never been so close to a snake like this before. SHOES: ASOS BAG: Unique Vintage DRESS: Ducks In A Row TIGHTS: Target Wow, holy crap I’ve missed posting. So despite this bag and these shoes are not the mostly comfortable/practical in the world…I’m a sucker for unique accessories. I was never into faux fur until this past year, so fluffy shoes and coats are becoming addicting! This dress runs hella small, so I sized up and my goodness it was worth the purchase!!! It’s built amazingly well, thick but not too thick, and is super dumper comfortable!! The velvet is soft and it’s definitely in my top 5 favorite dresses. I really really adore plaid, so I new i needed this to welcome in autumn. Halloween is coming up so I’ll be rewatching Over The Garden Wall (and tons of horror!!). I don’t know if I’ll be anything this year, but bet if I do there will be a photoset!!

The Displaced

Multidisciplinary artist Serge Attukwei Clottey opened his debut solo exhibition in New York last Saturday October 24 and it’s showing till November 22. The artist who uses installation, photography and performances to explore his family history, trade, environmental, migration and political issues in his Labadi community, Ghana and Africa is exhibiting some of his thought provoking works that primarily talks about the migration and trade activities of his family long before they moved from Jamestown to settle at Labadi. This exhibition includes photography, video and installation of his popular Afrogallonism art works and sculptures. It’s taking place @ 30 Archard Street, New York, NYC 1002 NYC.
