The school, as high tech as it is, lacked the proper care for sufferers of certain diseases. Hope's Peak had a lot, but it did not have everything. People like Sabitsuki, like him, like the Kaibutsu whom have already hit the extreme late stages of the Rust disease, had no hopes for being cared for. No hope. But he has dealt with it. He's fortunate that the disease localized itself in the eyes. Fortunate, and unfortunate.
The eyes, the sensory part of the body closest to the brain. Closest to the very organ that could make or break his own survival, his own well being, his own sanity. That sanity is long gone, so there's no need to concern himself with that.
An entity born from the Flow, he is familiar with death. All too familiar. A two-dimensional entity created in what Sabitsuki remembered of him. Ah, she must have thought him to be scary at one point. It didn't matter now. That girl is suffering. Rusting.
He is aware of her suffering. Fully aware. Frozen in place, seated on his own bedside. His reaction time is slow. Her gasping for air, her coughing-- all of this was registered but not reacted to on a timely basis.Ā
Finally, he stood. If anything happened, his hammer is right there. They're both carriers of Rust, so why would it matter if they made contact, anyways? His progress is slow, almost unlike the erratic and obnoxious Smile that was so commonly presented. A motion to kneel beside her, fingers pinching her cheeks to force her to look his way.
For once, there is no jest, no laughter. None of that. All he felt.
Was.
Pity.
A violent display. A pathetic display. A display that he himself fears experiencing one day. "Hey. Hey, are you listening to me?"Ā
A pause.
"Are you dying?"Ā That's definitely something to ask a sick girl. Still, to him, it's an important question. He himself is aware of the absence of medication for these disease carriers. Smile, although not wanting to believe it himself, understood this situation's hopelessness.
