Iâve been so looking forward to kavehâs bday and it did not disappoint! We got an AQ reference which I was HOPING for in regards to him and alhaitham, âeverything has returned to their proper place nowâ YEAH I BET IT HAS, theyâve worked together to restore their house to a home :â)
Also the closing paragraph,,, are we kidding. the oil painting that he bought to put in their shared space rather than his own room all the way back in alhaitham's story quest now being returned to its 'proper place' after sumeruâs calamity,,, like their interest and lives being blended together is a constancy for them!! (Also the decorative ornament isnât specific but itâs my headcanon this is the wooden statue that alhaitham bought and kaveh called boring lmaoooo)
THIS IS SO FUNNY TO ME wdymmm people are gifting him things that also seem to be with alhaitham in mind, a book, a container of soup lmaoooo and theyâre giving it to mehrak to deliver straight to them nooo, this reminds me so much of ruins exploration where kaveh was in the TRENCHES trying to deny his living with alhaitham to all the merchants, and now all the merchants are sending their groceries straight to their door?? they are inextricable at this point (but also I completely get it, I too would want to avoid an interaction in which only gay panic ensues, like grow UP)
snippets from within these walls (found and found again)
Synopsis:
âAlhaitham,â Kaveh said. That they both were looking at the re-framed painting on the wall should have been reassuring. âDid you hang this back up?â
âI did.â
Kaveh stared at Alhaitham. It had been Alhaitham who had said it, definitively, but it would have made more sense if he had remained silent.
âYouâre beingâŠâ He was only stared at, probed into. He had an encompassing awareness that even if he didnât say it, Alhaitham would know anyway. âStrange.â
âHow so?â
âYou know perfectly well. First with the paint box, then the cleaning, and now with this. Itâs like youâre going out of your way to be amicable.â
âIt was my impression I was being forthcoming.â
âThen, what, Iâm to believe you actually want to help me out?â
Alhaitham just looked back at him. A discomfort leeched at Kavehâs skin. What was Alhaitham seeing?
âIs that so bad?â
(After saving Sumeru, Kaveh faces the destruction of another home, and Alhaitham helps him pick up the pieces.)
im sorry in advance i just left 4 consecutive comments on ur newest fic.. u simply inspire essays in me
THAT WAS YOU????? i've been reading your comments over and over like scripture!! thank you so much for taking the time not only to read but to leave such deliciously in-depth analysis, i so love hearing your thoughts! :''') i've been swamped but am going to find time to do justice to your work and reply!!! <333333333
THE QUEST IS WILDDDD. GAYMERU, YOU REMAIN TO BE THE PEAKEST NATION!!!
Posting this ask to ask YOU, my favorite essayist, a penny for your thoughts on the Haikaveh convo beneath the stars and in the epilogue!!! Cause honestly, I was screaming internally when I saw Kaveh QUOTING ALHAITHAM'S LINE FROM APOP!!!!
What are your thoughts on these two working together on a project that seemingly parallels their thesis? Will Haikaveh finally put a ring on it?? What do you think about the translation of the cn dialogue in the epilogue??? Will there also be an update to your thiccc essay on Haikaveh's queercoding????
No pressure with answering. I hope you are enjoying the hell out of the new quest!!!!
Hiya!! thanks so much for your ask!! Gaymeru has summoned us for a feast fr!!!!
i've been blogging since the AQ dropped, there was so much content to unpack!! i've made a post about the haikaveh rooftop scene beneath the stars here, the haikaveh epilogue scene here (including notes about the CN version), and my thoughts about the gap in the narrative regarding haikaveh's thesis here! i also made a summation post of my thoughts on hkvh overall in this event bearing in mind the motif of change, specifically how kaveh's thinking that 'some people don't change' relates to kaveh and alhaitham <3
overall, the changes to haikaveh's relationship since a parade of providence are palpable! their treatment of each other in every event proceeding highlights that with the way they communicate more smoothly and how kaveh goes out of his way to seek alhaitham. the AQ provides kaveh's perception on these improvements (being that, to him, nothing has been sorted out lmao) and suggests reasons for this given him still perceiving his and alhaitham's relationship as transactional, and yet, at the end of the world, he chooses to seek out alhaitham and relies on him for consolidation regarding the weight of the task they're taking on together
the epilogue scene imo drives home alhaitham's shift in transparency, where he's openly sincere regarding his thoughts and motivations around his treatment of kaveh, and that he wants to be an active part in the restoration of their house along with their relationship. while kaveh's first instinct is to interpret this maliciously, he's unable to properly ascribe alhaitham's helpful actions to an ulterior motive. to me, this is telling of the set-up for their future arc where they both work towards the restoration of their relationship, only for it to be stronger and more stable than their original friendship!
as for my essay it's much in need of an update lmaooo, thankfully i managed to recover some of my edits on my old laptop! life has been so hectic for me and i'm having to take long hiatuses online, but it's definitely in my mind to delve back into my old passion project and reboot it! there also comes the issue of how long it's going to end up being considering future sumeru events lmaooo but i'll have to tackle that when it comes to it!
i'm hoping to have a one-shot (pleading with myself to stick to this before it gets too long) based on the haikaveh epilogue scene up at some point before life gets to me again!
thank you so much for your ask! i've really enjoyed this event and all the insightful conversations it's brought about!! here's to future events! let's hope that haikaveh continues on their profound, meaningful journey together <3
let me use my literature degree to overanalyze the moment kaveh admits that he cannot let go of anguish and struggles to embrace alhaitham's calmer nature because he relies on that pain
of course this relates to his entire outlook on his life, and his personality as a whole-
but it also makes me think about how he has to twist anything good and kind alhaitham says around. how he cannot handle straightforward compliments or kindness and has to suffer first. how there is "ZERO" chance they will ever get over their differences... because what if they did? what if there was no friction left? would that scare you, kaveh? would that go against how you believe your life must be lived???
Hiya! Thank you for crushing my HEART, wdym âwhat if there was no friction left? would that scare you, kaveh? would that go against how you believe your life must be livedâ????????
Viewing âanguishâ through kavehâs perspective on himself as a person not just an artist is so !?!? because anguish has essentially become part of his disposition? Heâs naturally a sensitive person, but whether it be because of his grief or because of who he really is, or these both combined, he feels itâs only right for him to take on the burdens of others since he prioritises their feelings above his own, for him to reverse this mindset would be unthinkable for him right since no matter what heâs tried, he canât walk away from other peopleâs pain!
Itâs only in his relationship with alhaitham is there a clear discrepancy in how he treats alhaitham vs others; he initiates bickering and arguments since he believes thatâs the basis of their relationship now where they once were so close. The idea that kaveh believing suffering of any kind is natural and deserving couples into his relationship with alhaitham is so !!!??!!! of course it has to hurt to live with alhaitham now; itâs a trick of fate that theyâre stuck together again after having brought out the worst in each other. Heâs reminded of a friend that hurt him and who he, maybe, hurt in turn and pushed away, and now thereâre no means for reconciliation. They understand each other too well for them to ever make amends since they differ irrevocably in every way so ofc thereâs zero chance for that⊠but now alhaitham is saying heâs happy for kaveh, and helping kaveh with seemingly no ulterior motive, and kaveh is thrown off
Because of his perceptions, thereâs no reason for him or alhaitham to change; even if he tried to, it would do nothing to change alhaithamâs treatment of him, so this stasis has become their normalcy. They can work dependably together, gossip over fruit and wine, shop together, build a home together, but for kaveh, ultimately nothing fundamentally has altered since âpeople canât changeâ, so they bicker and misconstrue each other, and in this, kaveh becomes offended and believes alhaitham wants to belittle him and he also gets upset that he and alhaitham differ so much, like in his contention with their respective approach to sentimentality
Then when alhaitham says things like heâs happy for kaveh in his justification of himself, and doubles down, kaveh has no basis to believe this, yet he canât seem to claim that alhaitham is lying so he deflects â what is alhaithamâs motive? And why is alhaitham helping him with fixing their home? What does alhaitham gain from him being here?
His place in what he considers âalhaithamâs houseâ is what every question leads back to, and so I think anguish is v inferable here, especially with kaveh essentially grieving their broken home (aka their relationship) with the view that alhaitham doesnât care about it the same way! the transactional dynamic of their relationship is second-nature to kaveh, so alhaitham challenging this in any way, like taking the paint box to his bedroom, forces kaveh to question alhaitham and yet itâs his very perceptions that obscure his full view of things
Heâs so reliant on the âmixed-bagâ of his and alhaithamâs relationship and the subsequent anguish this causes that itâs inconceivable for him to look at it in full. With alhaitham challenging the status quo, being transparent about his sincerity and openly helping kaveh, kaveh calls it into question but doesnât allow himself a full answer. Isnât that in itself maintaining his level of anguish? he doesnât believe he has a place in alhaithamâs life despite sharing a home, so what good would come from prying where he isnât wanted? Thereâs no way they can ever sort things out because theyâve already changed each other, havenât they? and it was arguably for the worst since they brought the bad out of each other. If they ever did try to sort it out between them, wouldnât they have to change again? Wouldnât he have to look into himself, just like all those years ago, when alhaitham cut him too deep, and he realised all that he had been looking away from? Would that be the final straw? Would there be nothing left for himself or his and alhaithamâs relationship? Or would it lead to something more, a new path previously unconsidered? And wouldnât that overwrite everything he believed up till this point, that it was his fate to suffer, to be punished??
Itâs easier to believe people canât change until someone you think you know begins changing in front of you, even if itâs minutely. This AQ is so interesting in terms of kavehâs progression as well as haikavehâs relationship; theyâre both integral to each other and weâre seeing more and more alhaithamâs influence on kaveh. I canât wait to see where future events take them and kavehâs mentality!
Btw, have you heard True Blue by boygenius? Because that song is beat for beat Alhaitham and Kaveh's story and I am clawing at the walls (especially with hoyo recently confirming that Haitham's love is, in fact, tried and true blue)
hiya!! thanks so much for the song rec?? currently picking up the pieces of my heart after you smashed it on the ground LMAOOOOO <3333
wdymmmm that only they know each so well that they hurt each other in places no one else can reach but they turn to each other because of this very reason, that they're understood without having to try or pretend because they have that innate comprehension of each other???
NOOOOO why is this their exact conversation in a parade of providence, where they've moved past who's right and who's wrong because the issue they're facing is a more personal and intimate, the opposition of their philosophies pales in comparison to the personal regard they have for each other oh i'm ILL
i am waiting for the day where kaveh feels this comfortably about the knowledge alhaitham has of him :')
alhaitham's love is TRIED AND TRUE BLUE!!!! i'm in tatters thank you <33333333
I think it's so interesting that hkvh's fallout / relationship gets called out more and more. First it was during the event with the fallout callback, and now it's the archon quest. While we actually see it progress, especially Alhaitham becoming more openly fond towards Kaveh, it feels like Hoyo is really setting up a conclusion to their story sooner or later, or is it just me? This may have been Sumerus last Archon quest, but Hoyo makes me believe that we'll be getting more hkvh lore, otherwise why make Tighnari mention the state of their relationship? Anyway, I LOVE THESE TWO and really hope we'll get to see their big fallout one day. Glad to see you're back!
Hiya! Thanks so much for your ask! I absolutely live off of the crumbs of haikaveh relationship mention, like in cynoâs second story quest where he seems genuinely shocked that kaveh and alhaitham would be studying together again, the divorce mention in ruins exploration and alhaithamâs switch-up (showing their falling out affected alhaitham just as much as it did kaveh), and now with tighnari saying that he believed kaveh and alhaitham had sorted things out and that he wouldnât otherwise dare to try and mediate their âconflictsâ lmao
Tighnari drawing attention to the fact that he thought kaveh and alhaitham had worked out their issues is so interesting to me since it can serve to highlight the external perception of haikavehâs relationship and what kaveh himself perceives. since a parade of providence, we as players have seen some kind of softening to their relationship, like in cynoâs second story quest when we got a glimpse into their domestic homelife and how receptive they were to listening to each other, and subsequently in every event following where kaveh can be seen to pursue alhaitham rather than go out of his way to avoid him like otherwise seen in alhaithamâs character story and his hangout
Up till now, this development hasnât been mentioned explicitly by anyone (maybe besides the vendor in ruins exploration who thought that kaveh and alhaitham were âeatingâ together and that he usually doesnât get âthese thingsâ wrong lmaooooo), so I assumed that it was going to stay inferable until I was surprised in the AQ!
Itâs a really !!! deliberate choice on the writersâ part to make this ambiguous. Any inference on the playerâs part about alhaitham and kaveh reaching some sort of accord is also held by tighnari, acknowledging the previous events. Yet kaveh refutes this, and doubles down on the position he had during a parade of providence, that he and alhaitham are never going to sort their issues out!! but,,, when kaveh needs comfort, he seeks alhaitham out? like how he asks for alhaithamâs opinion about the plans for nahidaâs bday celebration, and how he runs around sumeru just to tell him about what happened with the infamous book in an odd textual mystery. And itâs in this conversation on the roof where itâs highlighted again that their differing interpretations of their communication are ultimately the pitfall â otherwise, they can work together without a hitch
And in their epilogue scene, with alhaitham being incredibly transparent about his sentiments, that heâs happy for kaveh in his self-justification, and being more open in his actions that benefit kaveh for no other motive than that, to help kaveh out, and kaveh questioning just what alhaitham can get from this before dismissing it to help alhaitham out in kind, a step towards rebuilding their home,, aka their relationship,,,?? With all this in mind, Kavehâs assertion that there is no chance in him and alhaitham working out their differences seems like foreshadowing rather than a damning statement
With the ending of the AQ, I definitely think weâre going to see more of some kind of progression in haikavehâs relationship. Theyâve fulfilled the arc of kaveh being missing from the last AQ and shown that them working together benefits everyone involved, and now alhaitham being more explicit in his words and in his actions as to how he wants to help kaveh without any ulterior motive, as kaveh would believe
Whether we actually see their fallout or have it explored further when it comes to them addressing their past in order to build towards a reconciled future, I have no idea, but man Iâm salivating for any haikaveh content in future events. The writing for these two is so carefully crafted and Iâm eagerly awaiting to see where the writers are planning to go!!
Hiya! Thank you for your ask, lmaoooo their thesis better have been haunting them as much as it was haunting me
Alhaitham and kavehâs thesis around the runes and architectural styles of king deshretâs era ultimately stalled when kaveh ripped it up, renouncing his and alhaithamâs friendship, and alhaitham subsequently removed his name from the project, but even though it wasnât completed, it had already helped people in the desert when it came to load bearing and it was fruitful enough that the Akademiya gifted them a building to continue researching
This shows the good that can come when they unite their opposing perspectives, which is something that kaveh once recognised too as he writes in his old sketchbook, but thereâs a gap in the narrative here since their thesis was abandoned and yet they both live in the building that was initially gifted to the both of them! Also, kavehâs character stories detail that his and alhaithamâs views and their way of going about life belong on opposite sides of the mirror while alhaitham believes that uniting these views provides a complete perspective. The rift in their relationship asks, can they ever unite on the same front again?
In cynoâs second story quest I really appreciated how it seemed like there was an inversion of them working together in their original thesis, with kaveh memorising the temple of silenceâs symbol and alhaitham identifying it due to the architectural signets, additionally with how seamlessly they fell into working together with little to no bickering? Especially when they were studying together in the house of daena, the place they first met, which is commented on by cyno, seemingly because it was previously implausible lmao, them working together here is a step in the right direction; it highlights even further the good that can come from them joining together their mirroring fields of interest and ways of doing things and working in tandem
So in the latest AQ I was !!!! that they were working together in a way that explicitly linked to king deshretâs era, using both ancient mechanisms and language which turned out to be inextricable in figuring out a way to save sumeru
Even though kaveh asserts that absolutely nothing has changed in his and alhaithamâs relationship (no oneâs buying that but you babes lmaooo), itâs notable that besides that one time where they semi-bicker over kaveh claiming that alhaitham puts himself on a pedestal, they work together pretty seamlessly. when theyâre introducing themselves to the pillars of deshret, kaveh has to reinterpret alhaithamâs meaning to make it more palatable, knowing full well what alhaithamâs true sentiments were (so ironic given that he can rarely understand them when theyâre directed at HIM)
Also kaveh and alhaitham unite together against thoth essentially pressuring them even though heâs not willing to exert himself lmaooo it reminds me of in ruins exploration where alhaitham turns thothâs words around on him in defence of mehrak, and in turn, kaveh
also find it interesting that them working together requires them to be on different levels, with kaveh taking the high-ground and alhaitham being ground-level, yet theyâre still able to communicate. It reminds me of the rules of the chess game where their paths disallow them to cross into each other, but theyâre working towards the same goal with each otherâs strengths in mind
Itâs also interesting that there are historical records that they copy to take with them, with thoth highlighting whether thatâs necessary or not, and kaveh saying that heâll keep them as a memento, especially since they relate to the human artisans who helped construct aaru, occurring during king deshretâs era, the very time period that their thesis was centred on?
Alhaitham and kaveh working together once again fulfils the gap in the narrative left by the first archon quest, with alhaitham asking kaveh where he was when âsumeruâ needed him most â now kaveh is present and offering all his expertise in tandem with alhaitham, and ofc sumeru is better off for it! the enemy is stronger, but so are they!! now theyâve come full circle here and their fate continues to bind them together with the gradual rebuilding of their home, and with it, potentially their relationship! but the elephant was there the whole quest in terms of the thesis lmaooo
Kaveh states that working so closely together brought up the tensions lying below the surface and that thereâs ZERO chance of them ever fixing things, which to me, really reads as foreshadowing, just as alhaithamâs âwhere were you when sumeru needed you the most?â kaveh still believes that their manner of communication and approach to sentimentality only work against each other, that theyâre ultimately too different to reconcile, and yet he turns to alhaitham when heâs in the need of consolidation?! The quest shows us again and again that kaveh and alhaitham can work successfully together for everyoneâs benefit and are the only ones who can truly understand each other (like colleiâs âkavehâs self-doubt disappeared like magicâ I WILL NEVER BE OVER THIS) which is what their thesis also shows
Yet itâs their difference in communication which stands as a barrier between them. Their thesis ground to a halt because of a lack of a united vision, because they believed they knew what was best for the other rather than accepting each other. Now, with alhaithamâs sincerity in that heâs happy with kavehâs justification in himself, and that heâs being more transparent in how his actions can benefit kaveh, it seems haikaveh is making steps towards mutual progression
I think it would make sense for their relationship to reach full completion with them undertaking a paper together, whether it be picking up their abandoned project or starting a new one with all they discovered and accomplished in this AQ; if they restore their relationship to even greater heights, make a gifted building a âhomeâ for both of them, then I think undertaking a new project would completely resolve the narrative of their abandoned thesis!! Iâm v curious as to the direction the writers are going for!
hi hello ive been so so thrilled by the recent hkv analysis... ur mind is as always beautiful...... as a thank u gift : black hole fantasy by the crane wives feels like a very haikaveh song i think u would like it probably ^u^
hiya! thanks so much for your ask, i'm glad you're enjoying my posts about our resident losers hehe also thank you for your gift??? this is so haikaveh coded are we kidding
this from kaveh's pov is heart-wrenching, his hesitation in believing he has a rightful place in alhaitham's life even though alhaitham's life is enhanced with kaveh by his side, so much so that he's ready to be turned out at any moment
beyond this, i love this idea of kaveh facing himself too, what will happen when he opens that door? he's afraid of believing he has the right to be happy, so what if he reversing that notion and believing he does have the right turns out to be wrong? what would be left for him?
kaveh longing for a version of himself that allows himself to be happy but he denies himself this longing so that he can't even recognise he has it??? NOOOO
and then him finally facing that hurdle and realising that alhaitham was waiting for him if kaveh wanted to face it? that they are of equal importance to each other and that his happiness is what both himself AND alhaitham wants, oh okay,,,
yeah this scratched my brain in all the right ways, thanks so much!!!
'i just think some people never change' - new archon quest haikaveh analysis
Thereâs this motif within alhaitham and kavehâs relationship and its resurgence in the newest archon quest is really interesting, specifically how itâs incredibly relevant to kaveh and how he perceives both himself and his and alhaithamâs current position
Going back to the beginning of alhaitham and kavehâs friendship to analyse this idea, we can see that kaveh views their friendship as positive despite their contradicting views since he believed that their opposing beliefs were a strength of their bond, saying this produced more discussion and introspection as to the world around them
yet the tension in their friendship arose when they started collaborating with other people during their thesis project, and it became clear how different they were in their approach to talent and also in how they go about communicating with other people
their argument came about as kaveh believed that alhaitham didnât do enough to fit in, and was therefore at risk of ostracising himself, something he perceived as negative due to his want to belong to the collective, which alhaitham retorted with saying that kaveh goes out of his way to accommodate to others regardless if itâs futile, not because of his altruism but because of the guilt in his perceived involvement of his fatherâs passing
this remark is the catalyst for kaveh tearing up their thesis and saying he regretted befriending alhaitham (I talk more here about how itâs their differences in communication which ultimately prevailed over differences in philosophy)
Kaveh notes in that moment that there was nothing he could do to change alhaitham, and nothing alhaitham could do to change him, and this immovability was ultimately the breaking point of their relationship. from this point, kaveh views their differences as no longer beneficial and can only cause harm
They go years without speaking, and whenever they do interact through journals, itâs criticising the otherâs perspective, so to kaveh, alhaitham remains rigid and unchanging in spite of losing the other as a friend, and in this comes this perception of alhaitham not needing him; since kaveh believes alhaitham refutes his philosophies and kavehâs reason for pursuing altruism, there canât be anything else he can offer alhaitham save for philosophical debate, and this permeates into every aspect of their relationship post-akademiya
When they reunite at the tavern after kaveh becomes homeless, he confides everything to alhaitham since he believes heâs already hit rock bottom, and then when alhaitham takes him in as a housemate, kaveh questions why alhaitham would do this since surely he canât offer anything in return? Because of this, heâs compelled to offer to take on the chores and domestic errands as compensation besides paying rent
I find it so !!! that in this state of uncertainty, kaveh having sold his familyâs old home and being homeless, then being taken in by someone he believed held him in disdain, thereâs some sombre comfort in the line âthe most unshakable part of one's past is a friend that will never changeâ, like alhaithamâs contrariness, or alhaitham always being there even when itâs kaveh worst nightmare, is at least a constant kaveh can rely on
This idea of not being able to change relates to kaveh and we can see this in his hangout when he talks about his staunch hold on his beliefs in that through the collective, good can be achieved for all (even if itâs at the cost of himself) regardless of the reason why he pursues this, be it because of his guilt or because he genuinely believes it, or both
And we can see this heavily in a parade of providence where kavehâs inner conflict is called into question by many other characters, such as paimon and the traveller, in that kavehâs means of saving others at the cost of himself is contradictory
This conflict is emphasised by alhaitham, who points out the discrepancy in kavehâs thinking and that of his actions, with the note that the altruist seeks happiness for all while denying himself the same, and this is something that kaveh is seen seeking answers to as to why alhaitham wrote this even by the end of the quest, and while alhaitham and kaveh disagree still over their philosophies, alhaitham establishes that their conflict has moved past whoâs right or wrong, and itâs deliberately unclear whether kaveh forms his own conclusion as to reason for alhaithamâs note
In a parade of providence, alhaitham takes on the role of commentator to research into Sachin and ascertain whether or not he had influence over kavehâs father as the reason he went into the desert, giving kaveh this as an answer as to why his father was so affected after the interdarshan championship, something that was unrelated to kaveh
whether this stymies kavehâs guilt or not isnât known explicitly, but itâs doubtful given kavehâs views on âpeople canât changeâ. since I donât think the relevance of alhaithamâs note is grasped by kaveh in that moment, rather itâs alhaithamâs action in finding out about the connection between Sachin and kavehâs father which prompts kaveh to thank him, I still think that alhaithamâs intention to provide clarity in some sense worked as the catalyst to softening their relationship, which is what we see in the events following up to the new AQ
kaveh says that he and alhaitham havenât worked out their issues and that working together so closely is what brings up tensions lurking under the surface of their otherwise amicable relationship â but I think this is interesting since they were able to work together well in cynoâs second story quest, since itâs kaveh who volunteers to help alhaitham sort out the books potentially to do with the temple of silence
so what makes this situation of them working together different? itâs an end of the world scenario and everyoneâs lives are at risk. While the bickering scene is framed as comedic with the angles, kavehâs prodding at alhaitham, and the zoom-in, I think itâs effective in also demonstrating how deep their issues lie, in that even though theyâre able to work together and reach conclusions, when it comes to communication, they are still at an odds and this comes down to perception
Kaveh is used to perceiving alhaitham as looking down on him and his way of thinking, and therefore interprets everything as a slight, which alhaitham is quick to correct yet gives no further clarification with the view that kaveh will believe what he likes, and thereâre no convenient means of overturning this perception
Kaveh saying that there is zero chance of them resolving their issues can also be read as comedic bc irony (AND FORESHADOWING) lmao, but thereâs something kinda damning about it, like even at the end of the world, he and alhaitham are in the exact same place? They can get swept along in bickering and agreeing to disagree on keeping their expectations low when it comes to the success of their interactions, but is that it? no wonder kavehâs so upset when he says that he doesnât think people can change â thereâs no time to even be able to if their prevention plan doesnât work! which is why I really appreciate the scene on the rooftop oh man I canât stop thinking about it
Their discrepancy in thinking when it comes to their interactions is highlighted in this scene, where kaveh says that alhaitham interrogated him during the first AQ, and alhaitham says it was kaveh who came looking for argument, but kaveh denies this, saying he was only wanting to have a conversation
to me, this shows that although their relationship has progressed in terms of them being more receptive and agreeable to each other, especially when it comes to quips, the fundamental issue still remains, which is the difference in communication and respective interpretation â established in the ending of their friendship
And yet theyâre able to have an open, earnest conversation. Alhaitham knows that kaveh is nervous, and gives support and advice by saying theyâre better off with kaveh there, and theyâve done what they can together, âlittle decisionsâ which amount to a big difference rather than blindly charging ahead and risking your own life to save others â something which resonates with kaveh, who connects alhaithamâs way of thinking to the note in a parade of providence
fascinating that kavehâs realisation and what this could mean for him is deferred when alhaitham asks about it as the sun begins to rise, and kaveh turns the conversation to the new day, that they hope the plan will work, and alhaitham says that it should do since they've done all they can, and they watch the sunrise together (the possibility of a future where this can be broached once more??)
To me, this renders kavehâs assertion that they havenât worked out any issues moot because of his own skewed perception; when heâs stressed out and succumbing to self-doubt at the end of the world, who does he turn to but alhaitham? Weâve come a long way from his previous assertion in apop where the disdain is 'mutual' between them
So the plan works, sumeru is saved, and everything returns to normalcy â or rather a new equilibrium. The doctor is gone for real, the pillars of deshret are released from prison and alive within a modern sumeru, and Collei passes her forest ranger exam, but for alhaitham and kaveh,,, what really has changed?
They come back to a destroyed house and their personal belongings which they rely on are all battered and in the wrong places, and to kaveh, this is distressing; even though he and alhaitham havenât come to a true understanding, this is what he considers home now, something that he once lost and something that he considers so important when finding a place of belonging
To alhaitham, this is a mild inconvenience that will be righted in time; the building still stands and although things might be out of sorts, theyâre still there
the true contention arises when they start discussing this, with kaveh asking why isnât alhaitham upset about the destruction of his own things, things he relies on his everyday life? It would only be right to be! but alhaithamâs position is that of the whole picture, that they can fix the situation rather than being upset
When alhaitham asks about this, itâs made very clear what theyâre actually discussing, more so than the house. How they approach matters of emotion differs fundamentally, and kaveh doesnât want to talk about something even further upsetting
Itâs the heart of the issue, leading back to his deeply-ingrained guilt, his ways of pursuing his ideals, of throwing himself into problems for the happiness of others, how alhaitham would supposedly look down on him for this, how theyâre always colliding and can never truly see each other â despite that they stand in their shared home
Alhaitham brings up the potential of a change in perspective to which kaveh holds wonât change anything, and I think this is interesting in a way when, tying it back to earlier when tighnari suggests that alhaitham and kaveh take on forest ranger work instead, but alhaitham says the nature of the work wonât change anything because the issues between them will always exist, and this is because people and situations are hard to change, especially when you canât force them. kaveh not only refers to himself and his own past, but alhaitham and where they stand in their current position
so in that regard, as an artist, anguish is something that kaveh relies upon, even if it might be painful, it might be worse to break away from this if itâs a source of inspiration â how would he produce art otherwise?
but more than that, Kaveh is so used to anguish that itâs an essential part of his person right? who would he become without this? and this also includes the anguish he feels from the dysfunction of his and alhaithamâs relationship
it's interesting to think about what kaveh is reluctant to face when it comes to this, what would a relationship without misunderstanding look like for them? would that even be possible? maybe this ties into kaveh's upset about their differing sentimentality; if it WAS possible, surely they'd both have to change for that to work? but that's impossible for the both of them as time has proven again and again, according to kaveh. kaveh's sadness is implicit in this, and man, that they're in their ruined house (aka their relationship) that kaveh is upset about and doesn't understand why alhaitham isn't similarly saddened,, like no wonder that makes him even more upset!
Alhaitham says that kaveh justifying things to himself, being firm in his decisions and unwavering in his wills, is a rare skill to have, and deems it a good quality, which contrasts with their previous arguments where alhaitham views kavehâs staunch belief in ideals and the means he achieves them through as flawed. Itâs kavehâs perseverance in the face of lifeâs problems that is admirable, and alhaitham expresses this earnestly â a very significant change to their dynamic
Kaveh doesn't seem sure how to reply to this, whether to take it at face value, and instead responds by asking what skill alhaitham has been mastering, and alhaitham carries a box of kavehâs things through to kavehâs room, saying that this action is a step towards mastery, which kaveh reacts to with scepticism, believing it to be a favour that needs returning but this is quickly rendered moot when he realises that alhaitham,,, canât get anything out of it? alhaitham did it just to help him? so kaveh looks to alhaithamâs damaged things and responds in kind, thinking of how they can work together to fix things
this is so !?!?!?!?!? CRUCIAL because by alhaitham asking kaveh to pass him the box with kavehâs things, this isnât just him patching things up around the house, itâs him showing his willingness to listen, to take on kavehâs burdens, and to address them with absolutely nothing in return because all he wants is kavehâs happiness? And kaveh realising alhaitham canât get anything out of helping him, and then finding a way to help alhaitham so they can fix the books together, is a step towards mutuality. even if he's not quite at the place where he can accept alhaitham's sincerity, theyâre both willing to work on restoring their house, their relationship, one step at a time, working in tandem!!!!
I kept thinking throughout the quest why, with kavehâs assertion that nothing had changed between them contrary to tighnariâs beliefs, haikaveh seemed stagnant in comparison to everyone else in sumeru: with the reconciliation of the desert and the rainforest, with the rate of collei growing up, and the expansion of the main cast with sethos and the lore of the temple of silence it seems things keep progressing and moving without them, but this motif is kind of the perfect answer, like with kaveh saying that he doesn't think people can change (aka him and alhaitham),,, that's exactly the issue they need to confront right?
in that way, it makes sense narratively and thematically that they would be stuck in the same place for this archon quest, even if they have improved in the way they interact with each other, unless theyâre willing to make moves towards addressing core issues, such as what exactly the tensions beneath the surface are, nothing significant will change between them
And with the ending, kavehâs justification in himself not changing, and alhaithamâs acceptance of this, maybe itâs not so much about changing, but adapting together, accepting each other nonetheless, like how kavehâs mother talks about âcompanionshipâ as the sole antidote rather than âunderstandingâ
At first I was thinking the events leading up to this are kinda reductive if weâre just gonna have them be in relatively the same place, but I think this writing choice really makes sense for their characters and how they influence each other
haikaveh rebuilding their home bit by bit with 'little decisions' symbolises the restoration of their relationship and the way in which they communicate and understand each other, and Iâm just so curious to see where this goes through all the inevitable ups and downs. Theyâve FINALLY reached this point!!!!! <33333
Hi I think youâre really cool and I love your analyses on these gay idiots. Honestly Iâd love to be friends and yap together ahhhhhhh
hiya! thanks for your ask! i'm so glad you like my brainrot, these two form a new line on my brain every day i swear so i'm happy it's not just me trapped in hkvh hell <3 pls yap to me anytime!! i'd love to be friends :') <333333
Alhaitham and kavehâs final scene in the archon quest,,, oh boy
Kaveh being upset that the house is destroyed and holding that, as the owner of the house, alhaitham should be rightfully upset, and that heâs essentially just a âhelperâ in this situation, which alhaitham calls out since itâs THEIR possessions that are affected, itâs THEIR home! The divide that kaveh puts between them, with him as a tenant and alhaitham as the home owner, and the way that alhaitham instantly elevates them to both sharing the responsibility to be equalâŠ. yeah
Kaveh being distraught that the things they both depend on in the home, and the home itself, are ruined, mentioning how easily destruction can be wreaked, so all these things have fragility, whereas alhaitham views this destruction as an inconvenience to be righted in the grand scheme of things â the dichotomy of how they handle their emotions, especially in relation to each other!!!! The ruined house = their relationship metaphor is driving me up the WALLLLLL
And this dichotomy in the difference of their sentimentality, how they handle their emotions, being what upsets kaveh (at least more explicitly in the CN)?? Theyâre always faltering in understanding each other on this fundamental level which out of everything is the most important! Alongside the idea of âhomeâ being so essential to kavehâs character, ofc a place he calls home being destroyed, even if just for the moment, is going to upsetting for him
Alhaitham mentioning that people can seek to change their situation, but kaveh saying AGAIN that itâs hard for people to change and that anguish is a reliable source of inspiration to him, which is essential as an artist, with art being so fundamental to him
but not only this, in regards to his and alhaitham's relationship, anguish is difficult for him to let go of in general because of how engrained it is into his person; he relies on anguish to propel him forwards so much so that it shapes him, and if he gave this up, he'd have to relearn not only himself and who he is without something so defining but also what that meant for him and alhaitham? like, can he not imagine what a relationship without tension between them would be like anymore?? HELP
no because alhaitham reaching out and understanding kaveh's position and saying that heâs genuinely happy kaveh is able to justify things for himself, the reasons why he believes the things he does, whereas before this split in their views was a source of contention for them, with kaveh giving alhaitham reasons he follows his ideals with alhaitham being unconvinced?
and the fact that he expressed this kaveh directly and doubled down on this to me really showcases these little progressions in their relationship, even if kaveh isn't ready to take this as sincerity yet. Theyâre at the stage where they can begin to accept the tensions brewing beneath the surfaceâŠ? PLEASE I CANNOT
Alhaitham explicitly going out of his way to help kaveh through actions (wisdom being shared through incommunicable mediums is so haikaveh coded) being a skill heâs going to master?? As in acknowledging the sentiment kaveh attaches to their belongings, as in,, piecing together the house once more,, as in,, working towards the mending of their relationship!?!?!?
And kaveh frantically trying to attribute this to the transaction-based nature of their relationship but coming up SHORT for once because alhaitham is helping kaveh with his own things, like yes baby, heâs waking up finally!!!
And then him willing to help alhaitham patch up his own books as a way of assembling the house together, like âlittle decisionsâ like this are working in tandem to bring them forwards to a new path of understanding each other oh okay,,,
Kaveh going to find alhaitham at the end of the day when preparations are complete means a lot to me, like wdym he's nervous so he goes and seeks alhaitham, someone who he just said he would never sort out his issues with?? even worse that he wants to check in on alhaitham and make sure that alhaitham isn't nervous too
The very telling silence as alhaitham clocks that kaveh is exhausted and kaveh correctly interprets that, this time around in comparison to the gag in previous events, alhaitham not answering him is valid since his question was arbitrary
The care and reciprocity of this interaction speaks volumes as to where they stand in their relationship, even though kaveh asserts that there is no way for them to resolve their issues, and they havenât come close to doing so like what tighnari believed, the back and forth of alhaitham noting kavehâs exhaustion and offering kaveh support, that once you clock out, thereâs no looking back since you canât do anything more, and your worries should be left behind, and then kaveh offering alhaitham water and proposing to cook for them, even as means of a distraction, is still so telling
When kaveh is stressed, he goes and seeks out alhaitham â the complete opposite of in alhaithamâs story quest where kaveh left multiple times during a conversation because he couldnât take talking to alhaitham anymore. So you HAVENâT sorted anything out kaveh?? really??
Alhaitham identifying that kaveh is nervous and kaveh confiding that, yes, he is, but alhaitham doesnât seem to be. we go back to alhaithamâs perspective, that thereâs nothing more they can do, any worrying further will only cause unnecessary trouble for yourself â directly addressing kavehâs current concerns, giving kaveh the comfort he needs to hear
(Also âI donât worry about things I cannot influenceâ okay, Iâm looking at you a parade of providence alhaitham, running around looking into Sachin to give kaveh some kind of closure)
them talking about the first archon quest amicably for once, and kaveh's conclusion that they're stronger!! and then immediately pivoting to how alhaitham asked him where he was the last time, like, we get it, you're stronger TOGETHER
The second time this specific line has been mentioned since earlier in the quest. The arc has fulfilled itself because this time kaveh IS here, weâve come full circle, and now a new path opens (thank you king of invokations) <3
Also !??!?! this acknowledgement of the discrepancies in their communication is crazy because alhaitham points out rightfully that kaveh initiates their arguments, arguments which kaveh takes to heart! but then kaveh pointing out that he didnât intend on causing an argument and that he came for a conversation emphasises that their perceptions of their interactions negatively impact their communication â kaveh believes alhaitham to have interrogated him, causing the argument, but alhaitham holds that it was kaveh who came to him looking to start an argument
Man I just think this acknowledgement is really important in contextualising their current relationship, would this have been able to happen earlier when they were constantly at odds and kaveh was more lenient in taking everything alhaitham said as a slight? I donât think so personally
âitâs good having me around to help out, huh?â oh my god I love him, I love how his self-doubt has been completely eradicated, like earlier he was doubting his ability to be able to pull such a colossal feat off, but all alhaitham had to do was say âat least youâre here now (so you donât have to nag me for details)â and kavehâs doubt disappeared LIKE MAGIC (IM NEVER GETTING OVER THIS BTW!!!)
And kaveh wanting alhaithamâs opinion on his contributions, and alhaitham OFCCC saying that they're the better off for it! jeez i wonder if that's why he was 'interrogating' you the last time,,,, also alhaitham taking the objective lens âas a citizen of sumeruâ to give a sincere compliment, lmao itâs so in character for him, it reminds me of how kaveh tries to compliment alhaitham but can only do it passive-aggressively
Them having a conversation at the end of the world surrounded by a sky of stars just the two of them, what in the apocalypse au is this??? I canât believe this is real
Also I love how kaveh speaks so freely around alhaitham; like after using king deshretâs ipad, he expressed his thoughts about it to alhaitham, how it was blurring the lines between reality and a dream, to which alhaitham agreed, saying it was a novel experience, and kaveh goes âwhat is my spirit leaves my bodyâ and alhaitham grounds him by going âthat wonât happenâ â Iâm reminded of how kaveh was freaking out about mehrak gaining sentience and leaving him in nahidaâs bday quest, and how alhaitham just went along with it. these small, earnest exchanges now really are a testimony to how their relationship has evolved over time!
When I tell you I GASPED!!! Itâs been YEARS (or however long in canon idk anymore) and kaveh is still thinking about the note alhaitham wrote him in a parade of providence, âlofty ideals may provide no defense at all against nihilism, but perhaps little decisions can. By their own choice, the idealist seeks to bring happiness to all, while denying themselves the same. Thus they shall never reach even the borders of truth until they wipe away the ignorance that blinds them." And now he finally connected the dots..??? AND THE SUN STARTS TO RISE AS HE DOES SO??? SHUT
Alhaitham saying that awful things are a part of life and that sometimes they can't be stopped and other times they can, and that he and kaveh have done the best they can without detriment to themselves correlates to kaveh's self-sacrificial thinking and how he feels he has to invest himself into every situation regardless of how it plays out for him should something worse happen down the line, so kaveh linking this to alhaitham's note conveying that self-sacrificing ideals may not actually be feasible when itâs at the bane of the person holding them; instead of risking your life, doing your part can be enough to impede disaster, is like kaveh recognising the merit of this, a logic he once thought disturbing?
Also the concluding line referring to sacrificing yourself to achieve happiness for others is contradictory to this principal in the happiness for all, like um, yes kaveh please make the connection that happiness is what alhaitham wants for you!!!
Kaveh not wanting to talk about it now is and then changing the topic to the prospect of there being a future is !!! the sky lightening into morning can be indicative of there being a future in which they can discuss these things further NOOOOOO
kaveh admitting that alhaitham acts more like an upperclassman than him?? idk if this wouldâve been possible for kaveh to admit in a parade of providence, itâs another kind of honest admission that mightâve been stifled by his pride, and then alhaithamâs retort about the difference in their temparement, heâs not wrong lmaoooo
I love this light-hearted exchange at the end when we transition into morning, some things never change, and honestly thatâs fine, isnât it? their dynamic is bickering over their respective differences but learning to accept and respect them regardless
I am absolutely eating up your breakdowns of the AQ, sending you this ask so I don't bung up your notifs with replies etc. Keep up the good work my fellow hkvthm soldier.
hiya!! thanks so much for your ask :') i'm so glad you're enjoying my brainrot, haikaveh really came back with a VENGEANCE huh??? lmaoooo pls don't worry about spamming, i love screaming with other people about these two losers <3333333
As an autistic person and reading Al-Haitham as an autistic person (please itâs so OBVIOUS) I can imagine he can be very literal about some things hence the bluntness. But I can see it causing miscommunication between Kaveh and Al-Haitham.
Al-Haitham saying something too literal and Kavehâs reactive personality. Glad theyâre working on that
hiya!! thank you for your ask <3 autistic alhaitham is so canon you're so right anon!!
the dichotomy in alhaitham and kaveh's communication style, how they voice their thoughts and feelings, is so interesting, especially when comparing it to their respective philosophies, it's no wonder they clash in this way, but they've definitely had progress since a parade of providence and of COURSE this is explored further in the recent AQ!!
i have a long upcoming post about this where i tried to get my thoughts in order, if you're interested i should have it up soon!
The key to the trial being that alhaitham and kaveh have to work with each other by ensuring they reach the end together otherwise it goes against the rules⊠like okay :DDD
kaveh and alhaitham are designed as functioning opposites that make up a whole picture, their philosophies and respective fields of study are on opposite sides of the mirror, but each side of the mirror is integral to the other side, like the black and white of the chess board
the idea of their movements in this chess game is so interesting, like they're on different paths that can't correlate but their destination is the same, and victory is only gained by reaching the end together. them working in tandem rather than opposition is achieving wisdom rather than operating in the bounds of knowledge; who's in the right doesn't matter so long as they're able to unite on a mutual front!!
