taking photos with film is like drawing in ink & taking photos digitally is like drawing with graphite i think

ive made my absolute best drawings with pencil, when i can erase and redo a thousand times until my perfectionism shuts up. it's a lot of frustration, a lot of failure, but the final result is far objectively "better" than anything i can make with ink

with ink i may never get the realism i can accomplish with graphite, but i do tend to get it right much much more often and much easier, have much less frustration and keep more of my sketches, and ultimately feel prouder about my ink art/am more likely to show it to people

some of my best photos are digital, but there's a graveyard of 10,000+ bad or meh shots to get to those keepers. whereas with film, i tend to like somewhere between 20-70% of a roll

no wider point to this, just rambling~

i think maybe the primary reason i don't get much out of social media is bc it's largely parasocial. i don't really glean anything positive from parasocial interactions; from either side, nothing is desirable about it for me. that's why i prefer dms and discord groups, why cohost and some years-ago extinct facebook groups were the only social media ive actually gotten anything positive from
