“Yeah, I mean, I’m sure there’s an explanation for all of this.”
She sounded genuinely pleased that he had been trying to do better for himself. He relaxed a little, and gestured towards the dogs. “Actually, that’s why I brought them over, Iris. I thought maybe you could use some love from something other than well-meaning but suffocating friends or dads.”
Peary wagged his tail and gave a soft, encouraging whine, while Daisy-Sue kind of danced as much as she could, given her condition. “The big white one is Peary, and the little one is Daisy-Sue. She’s about to have puppies any day now.”
@iriswestreporter
Iris smiled when he said he brought the dogs over for a reason. “That’s really nice,” she laughed as she pet the dogs. “Puppies really? Don’t tempt me, I’ll want to take one,” she laughed as she bent down to the dogs to pet them better.
“We just want you to feel safe again. None of this should have happened but it did and logistically we can’t go back.” Caitlin knew the words weren’t kind or soothing but the truth. It was the only thing she could believe in. “It’s been a rough couple of weeks, Iris. Everyone’s okay.”
“That’s true. Is it weird that sometimes I feel like everything that’s been happening in this city is going to lead to therapy down the road?” she sighed as she shook her head. “I’m glad everyone’s okay.”
Len snorted. “I certainly hope not,” he responded. “But if you mean I’ve been vaguely heroic as of late, then you wouldn’t be wrong. I’ve been trying to be good since Lisa was hurt.”
Privately, Len was a bit worried about his reputation. Not that he was minding - much - being a slightly better person than before. But if the criminal element suspected that he had gone soft, or that he had switched sides, it could leave the area he’d carved out for himself vulnerable to another war. While he was more than willing to spare lives and not make citizens and businesses pay for protection, other criminals wouldn’t be so forgiving.
A problem for another day. Right now he was looking at how tired Iris was, and wondering if he could do anything to help. Then he looked at the dogs, and an idea blossomed. Peary was good with him; helped him with his anxiety. Surely Peary could help Iris as well.
“You went through something pretty traumatic,” Len said. He rested his hand on Peary’s head. The dog’s thought bubble made a sudden appearance, with little hearts spinning in it. “It’s natural for you to need to time to adjust.”
@iriswestreporter
“That’s really good. I’m glad you’ve decided to take a different route,” she smiled at him. “I did yeah. Not something you do through every day. I think I’m going to need a lot of time. I mean I’ve gone through my fair share of scary stuff, but that got to me.”
Its not like anyone else is using it, but even if you don’t want to stay with us you can always text me when you can’t sleep. Chances are I’m awake as well, and could possibly be swayed to do a midnight food run. I keep having these night terrors, where I’m restless and wake up screaming. Caitlin doesn’t need that, I always feel awful when it wakes her up. I take it you’re still adjusting after the whole kidnapping ordeal?
Thank you, Ronnie. I’ll definitely keep that in mind. Oh wow. I didn’t know that. Must be hard. Maybe you need some help, like medicine or someone to talk to. Yeah, I think it messed me up a little.
Don’t tell me you’ve actually had a gun to your head at some point.
I mean not really, but it was close. I have also been told to jump out a window in order to save my life, which I did. Thank God for superhero people in this city.
“If you’d like, I’ll have Cisco come in here and install a security system. You won’t have to worry about getting up and checking the door. You can do it from the couch. Don’t thank me, it’s just what family does for each other.” She bowed her head gently, “Felicity, Laurel and my sister.”
“That actually makes me feel better. His stuff is powerful,” she chuckled. “Oh..wow. I didn’t know it was more than one.”
“ Interesting.” David sat behind a computer desk in the papers cubicles. He typed away, clearly not an intern, despite the ID that said he was. Besides, interns didn’t wear a thigh with a denim jacket. He was currently accessing files on ‘HIVE’ and what had been unconfirmed angles that could not be printed in stories. currently, he was looking into the operations of Penguin in the state; suspected arms supplier for the organization.
“Not really that interesting. It’s actually kind of annoying.”
Hmmmm sound waves make you sleepy basically. They also cause rather vivid dreaming as a side effect.
Well I just wanted you to know that people appreciate your work. There are a lot more problems in Central City that often get over shadowed. Your work helps remind people there is more to our city than superheroes and crazy black holes in the sky.
Oh, interesting. I’ve never heard that.
Thank you. That is very true. I really just write about what the city needs to hear. Who else are they going to hear it from?
“Oh, Miss West, I can assure you that you will be fine.”
He muttered to himself, “Thank God she has a speedster on hand to help her out.”
“Good because I can do without crazy drama and killing people for a while.”
They stimulate delta waves in the brain to induce sleep, it works for everyone.
Hartley Rathaway, I’m a big fan. You’re the only one writing at Central City News about things actually hurting this city. Your piece on the crumbling infrastructure of city was unapologetic and frank.
See all the science words go in one ear out the other for me.
Oh really? Wow, thank you. I always try to write about what’s really happening in Central City. I hate sugarcoating things. People need to hear the real news, you know?
Well, you can’t blame the man for wanting to keep his daughter safe after everything that’s happened recently. I’m good though, mostly just pissed that I was kidnapped. Really annoying.
I can’t. I’m actually happy he wants me around because I don’t want to be alone. More like, terrifying. At least you’re good. Something about what happened just feels different, I guess. This was more scary than having a gun held to my head.
It was debatable if this was a good idea. Iris was a reporter. Friend to the Flash. And the daughter of a cop. He didn’t need to get involved with her or her problems, really. But even as he was about to walk by her, he saw her exhausted expression, and it made him feel kind of bad.
Plus Peary and Daisy-Sue both wanted to greet her, so he stopped. “Hey, Iris,” Len said. At least meeting her wasn’t too, too awkward. He had never kidnapped her so he didn’t have to apologize for that. “How are you holding up?”
@iriswestreporter
Iris looked up and noticed Len standing there. “Hi. You’re actually a normal person now,” she said remembering the times her dad tried to arrest him. Looking down at the dogs she smiled as she pet one of their heads. “I’ve been okay. Just really tired. I haven’t been sleeping.”
For sleeping issues I recommend iso cronic sound waves, though personally I think you’re wiser to stay alert.
Iris West right?
Not sure that will work for me. Yes, Iris West.
Hey, Iris. Long time no see. I’d ask how you’re doing, but your face says it all.
Grace, hi. Yeah, it’s been a rough couple of days. I don’t think I’ve gotten any sleep. Plus my dad won’t let me out of his sight. How are you doing?
I’m positive Cait has a spare room at her place and I don’t think she’d mind me offering it to you. I haven’t been sleeping since coming back, so that would make two of us.
Thanks, Ronnie. I might stop by, but I don’t want you guys to give up a room. Guess we’ll both be night owls for a while. Why haven’t you been sleeping?
