Don't really go through ER lore discussions anymore, but I still believe that Melina is left burnt and bodiless because she was given a fragment of destined death at her birth. I personally think that's the betrayal mentioned in Maliketh's remembrance. Marika potentially kept a piece from him and hid it away until she had a personal use for it. Melina's birth left that destined death colored spear in Marika's abdomen when we see her crucified in the Erd Tree. Destined death being a fire, burns away Melina's body, leaving her only as a spirt to be called.

I'm very much confident that Melina was born when the Elden Ring was shattered, making Marika and Radagon her parents. I've gotten into her birth in a separate post previously here
