I'm leaving this blog up, but I no longer actively associate True Crime Community (sorry for any mistakes, i did not proofread this)—
So, a year or two ago I started this blog after watching a few videos about the TCC (mostly the ones bashing it), simply because I was truly fascinated in the minds of criminals and murderers. There were tons of girls that I knew who were into true crime as well, so I didn't think there was anything wrong with it. I was just getting out of high school, had really no ambition for the future, and was stuck in the mindset that my life was "rough". I was drawn to this community because everyone here was basically on the same level as me, and I just felt like I belonged. It started out like a normal interest, but quickly became a downward spiral that I couldn't get out of. I painted terrible people as "victims" because I thought I understood the emotions behind their crimes. It's like how some guys don't want to get their dogs neutered because they feel connected to their dog's balls, because they also have them (strange analogy, but it was the first thing that came to mind). I felt the need to defend them as if they were naïve children, unaware of their own actions (which they clearly weren't). My head was so far up my own ass, I couldn't see how despite feeling like I could empathize with them, we were not the same. In reference to the analogy, we both had balls, but I was the guy and murderers were the dog. If I had continued down that path, in that unstable mindset, it would've been just like the ending of Animal Farm. Yikes...
To sum this up, I was stupid and selfish, living in an echo chamber of apologists whilst denying that I was one of them. I probably won't be logging into this blog ever again, but I had to get this off my conscience to move on. I hope some of you youngins' take this broke ass college student's experience as a cautionary one— don't get sucked in like I did. Be mindful of yourself, and don't do anything you'll regret. Life isn't meant to be spent mothering monsters.
