Bad Idea (A Short Story)

I should've known it was a bad idea calling her up.. but that didn't stop me. I called her to talk about our break up; how I ended it in a fit of rage due to her cheating on me. I wanted to make amends and end on a good note. But that didn't happen.

I poured each of us a glass of wine before she came over; a nice thing to drink over a serious talk. At exactly 8:30 pm, she arrived. She was dressed quite fancy, but I had assumed she had just gotten off of work. I was awfully wrong.

"I want to talk and make amends," I stated, sitting on the couch. "I had come off strong and cruel. I said vugular things. I want to apologize."

"Mm, yeah? Well, I wanted to apologize for cheating as well. I recognized the fault on my part, and I realized I had hurt you." she said, sipping her wine, looking at me over the rim of her glass. God, she knew what she was doing; but I had not noticed.

I sat up straighter, nodding at her "I accept your apology, but you had hurt me beyond belief. I had trusted you, Ivory! You broke my trust!"

"God, Perseus! Did my texts mean nothing? I apologized here, and over the phone! Profusely at that, but it doesn't seem like it's clicked yet, hm? I'm sorry, dang it!" and with that, she broke down, flinging her arms around me with wine-drunk babbling about what I can only make out as an apology.

My friends had told me time and time again not to forgive Ivory, saying it was going to end in my heart being broken. Did I listen? No, not one bit.

"It's okay, it's okay, Ivory," I whispered, stroking her hair. "It's okay, I forgive you."

Am I going to get my heart broken again? Probably, but all I could focus on was comforting the girl who was speaking drunken apologies.
